The most dangerous rogue state in the world.

Guess which one it is. Hint: the author of this column is European.

The ending is the best:

"I have just visited the United States, and it is clear many people there are worried. And many dare not say so. Their views are seldom reported in the American mainstream media, which is self-censored and controlled, perhaps as never before.

"Instead, the air is thick with the views of the likes of Charles Krauthammer, of the Washington Post. "Unilateralism is the key to our success," he wrote, in describing the world of the next fifty years: a world without protection from nuclear attack or environmental damage for the citizens of any country except the United States; a world where "democracy" means nothing if its benefits are at odds with American "interests"; a world in which to express dissent against these "interests" brands one a terrorist and justifies surveillance and repression."

And against this most deadly of all the threats the world has ever seen, what are sensible people supposed to do?

"There is only one way such rogue power can be resisted. It is by speaking out and urgently."

Was there ever a more typical European response.

Good response. You've just helped confirm what he's ranting about.

"Hey boss, I'm going to write a column about America's war on terror and I'd like to do some research."

"Come on, nobody wants to hear factual information and how there are two sides to the story. We need to get people interested damn it!"

"Ok, so how do we do that? The story is really all laid out already. Terrorists attack the US, the US retaliates. It would be beating a dead horse."

"Hmm, you're right. We need to go for a different angle. Everyone already hates the terrorists...how about we say that the real problem in the world is America? They are calling Iraq a rogue state, maybe we should say that they are the rogue state."

"But boss, America has helped out various countries around the world countless times, often not getting the favor repaid. Of all the countries America gave money to after WWII, only a few have paid the money back. Sure, they're not perfect, but how many times has Iraq helped out the world? What facts would prove our point?"

"Facts? How long have you been in journalism? We don't need facts, we just need to reword obvious generalizations and pad it with some vague facts that we twist to prove our point."

"Sounds good to me."

Yes I am sure Hayabus is warming up the nukes as we speak.

So, if this article is correct and the author's view of the US is accurate, I imagine there will be bombs raining down on The Mirror office buildings in the UK
in retaliation for this artice? He IS expressing dissent against the big, evil US. Surely there is going to be dire consequences right? Surely he will be branded a terrorist!
I mean, the US IS the most dangerous rogue state in the world and makes every attempt to sqaush criticism and dissent so I imagine this guy is as good as dead. Right?

puhlease.

Yes, it's certainly true that other nations (such as the British "Empire") didn't do so well when they were the world's "super power". In hindsight, it's easy to see where their arrogance and sense of divine right led them to make some terrible mistakes. Let's pray that we have the foresight to minimize our own mistakes. We've certainly made some over the years since WWII, including the toppling of democracies (Chile, Iran) and the support of dictatorships (including Iraq!) all in the name of American "interests". We also thought that saving Vietnam from communism was worth the lives of our soldiers as well as theirs (and their civilians), and I think it's safe to say that most wish we hadn't now. I really hope that we don't have the same regrets when we look back at Afganistan a decade from now.

I think he brings some good points about Bushes "shoot first ask questions later" plan and the general propagnada surrounding us. For example when Cruise said thats hes afraidwhats this country going to, its was a big scandal and everyone called him unpatriotic and unamerican (hes a commie!!!!!!!!! McCarthy anyone?). This is what scares me the most, if all the diverse voices are subdued, theres goinna be one man in control.

But yeah theres about 5k civilian casualities you never gonna hear about on the fox news.

People left and right are starting to speak up on whats going on here. You might wanna think about it before dismisisng it as bullsh!t

So you're scared that individuals call another individual an idiot. Sack up. Or maybe you can't because there's a Republican standing behind you with a gun...

Except that empirical analysis has found no more than several hundred civilian casualties, most of which were caused by terrorists operatiing near civilians.

Well Denmark just obtained the Throne of the EU. I suspect the Danes might not do a damn thing to unite Europe against terrorism but you never know.

Ironically, should by some unlikely turn of events, the US fall...the EU would be converted to Islam faster than Red Dawn could crap a thread.

I think France surrended to Islam as soon as it saw your post.

Actually, the Danes (yes, the Danes, the most mild-mannered, friendliest, and most tolerant people in Europe) are getting fed up with their Muslim immigrant problem, so they MIGHT actually have some nutz.

Haha...so typical that most of you are way to ignorant to even accept that the sh*t CNN feeds you isn't always true.

I'm sure a lot of you still think that the story of "Black Hawk Down" is amazing...showing the true American spirit..

Massacre 5,000 Somalies and say, "Only 18 American's died! We're heroes!"

CNN BLACK HAWK DOWN
BBC BLACK HAWN DOWN
