Believe it or not but historically chem engineers have been very highly respected. Not sure why, is it the hardest mainstream engineering major b/c it's actually a lot of chemistry? Unlike EE, Nuclear, Mechanical which are classic engineering disciplines? No clue

If you can't trust a car salesman, who can your trust? A doctor, or lawyer will charge you much more per hour, than a car salesman. Now, in terms of value, for services rendered, a hooker is probably the best value.

None of the above, alot of these occupations offer the pretense of being respectable.. but

Lawyers, Doctors and Politicians in general deviate from the respectable lot frequently.

Car sales persons are about as crooked as they come.

About 50% of teachers are respectable.

Telemarketers? 'Nuff said.

Police and Law Enforcement? No thanks, sometimes I think leaving the interpretation of the law in the hands of some half wit imbeciles is asking a bit to much. 75% of cops are great, the other 25% ruin it for the rest.

Pretty much narrows it down to engineers, it professionals, and landscape workers? Its hard to go wrong.

Firefighter
Paramedic FTW

I would respect the hell out of these two if met on the street for what they have to do day to day and things they have to put up with more then anything else, IMO of course.

Doctor, teacher, and law enforcement all come to mind. The only reason I wouldn't pick doctor is because such a huge salary comes with it. Not that they don't deserve it, but it means people could become a doctor for the pay instead of the cause. That isn't true of the other two.

Firefighters edge out cops and soldiers because there are no hippies who cry when firefighters are too rough with a fire

You bring up a good point, but on average the caliber of person who enters the medical profession is higher than the other two.

There are bad people in all professions but if you are going to commit to a minimum of 11 years education and living like a student after high school for being a doctor, believe me, money can not be the only driving factor. It is just too long of a road and the sacrifices too great for those kind of motivations; additionally the money is actually decreasing a lot these days.

I wonder if apendectomy's, dental work, and boob jobs being done in Mexico, has anything to do with the money decreasing?

Only your undertaker knows for sure. You forgot Morticians, asshat.

They fix your Grandma's hair, put on her make up, and make her look like you want to kiss her one last time.

Really has to do more with managed care (HMO, PPO) than anything. Of course medicare sets the pay rates on most things are they are constantly under cutting and the rest of the insurance industry goes off of them.

I think the number of people who are not hispanic jumping the border for medical care is quite small. There is no chance in hell I would ever do it. It would be mainly people who don't have insurance to start out with, but those people going over the border actually get much worse care and they weren't adding to the money pot over here anyhow.

Additionally, people with money in canada actually jump the border to the US b/c the socialized medicine makes you wait 2 yrs for a knee replacement. Here if you have insurance it gets done in about 2 weeks. Of course canada isn't as bad as the UK but that's another issue

All Firefighters, all Paramedics, and some Doctors.

They are called on day after day to save our lives in a profession where only the person who you just saved thinks of the world of you and always will.

Their profession, by nature, is founded on only one simple purpose: to save humanity from itself and the elements with no foresight in mind (besides inspectors).

It's selfless, it's humble, it's life threatening, and at the end of the day, AS A WHOLE, they are the most respectable people period.

As for doctors, there are special cases, but those special cases outclass everyone else.

It all depends on the person. There can be crooked people in any profession. Titles don't impress me. Just because someone is an x, doesn't mean that they're any good at what they do or are even any honest about it.

I highly agree, but I'm talking the average person in any selected profession. There is obviously a different at that point.
