I wish I would have seen this thread prior to me building a new gaming rig for my friend using a Z170X Gaming 5 board. I installed the app center and then installed allt he latest drivers including the latest BIOS. I have had all sorts of issues since. Mainly USB issues. Also it reverts the memory to 2133 when it should be 3000. I have adjusted it myself but then the BIOS will reset it.
I don't have the PC handy to solve these issues but I wonder if the BIOS could be the cause. I figured it was a driver issue or windows 10 problem.
It could be. I wasn't sure of it at first, but after installing the newer BIOS update, my external hard drive in a powered enclosure was not recognized at all. I unplugged the USB cable and plugged it into another USB port, and it was recognized. I thought maybe the enclosure might be developing an issue.
Fast forward to a few days ago. I got my Samsung USB thumb drive out of my car to load some new music onto it, and I was having errors left and right. After several "this drive is not responding" messages, I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port where it worked. Then yesterday, my Logitech USB mouse that is about 4 months old and never had any issues, began being really choppy. I would move it and it was lagging so much that I couldn't really use it. Then I tried using my external hard drive again, and it wasn't recognized on the USB 3.0 port where I keep it plugged in. I messed around and tried the USB mouse in several USB ports, and they all lagged. Then today, it began working for a little bit. At that point, I needed a break and shut down the PC.
So at this point I was like "$#&%! Gigabyte". It is really frustrating. Under the F5 BIOS, my USB thumb drive, my external hard drive, and my USB mouse didn't have any issues. Now they are suddenly here. It's gonna be my last Gigabyte board for a while. I've used them quite a bit since the 90's, but I have noticed they provide fewer BIOS updates than their competitors. I still think they design and make a fantastic motherboard, but without stable BIOS/programs, it really doesn't matter. Their apps/BIOS cause too many issues.
I might even revert back to BIOS version F5 and live without the UEFI fan control. I used that version for over a year with no issues. I value stability over everything else. I was even looking a other motherboards and considering jumping to another manufacturer, but I'm going to mess around with it for a few more days and see if I can figure out what the heck is going on.

EDIT June 14
Verified there are major USB issues since I upgraded to F22. I am unable to create a system image to either of my back-up drives without it simply hanging. I also did a clean restore, and they persist. My advice: Don't upgrade to the new F2* BIOS unless you have a Kaby Lake CPU. Beyond irritated right now!!!

Hopefully the final edit June 15
A clean install of Windows 10 didn't fix the USB odd issues. So I powered down the PC, unplugged it from power, and cleared the CMOS. Upon starting I loaded the optimized defaults (which I originally did after flashing to the new F22 BIOS), and did another clean install of Windows 10.
This time my USB issues seem to be gone. I'm getting the full transfer rate from my USB2 and USB3 ports, and there are no errors during data transfer. I've never had to clear the CMOS after a BIOS flash before, but whatever it takes to get things stable again. So that's my final recommendation. When in doubt, clear the CMOS and load defaults.
