The Myth Series (By Bungie)

Myth The Fallen Lords and Myth II Soulblighter have to be among the best PC games ever created. If you've never seen the game, it is not too late. It is well worth the effort to buy a copy of Myth II from ebay. This is the series that put Bungie on the map !

People are still playing these games today, almost 10 years later ! A group of volunteers have formed a team called Project Magma. This team has continued to update and patch the software so that it runs on modern Windows and new hardware. The updates also fix bugs and add even more features.

If you are wondering about what PC game you should play next, or if you are an old fan that wants to give it another go, check out the Magma website. They offer a free updated demo for people that have never played. You will also find links to the newest patch file, and a link to a huge download center for lots of 3rd party maps and missions.

Also, this is one of the best mutliplayer games ever ! You can play the single player missions cooperatively with others, or head to head on a multiplayer map. Check it out !

Actually, the 'Marathon' series did that, but PC-only users can maybe be forgiven for not knowing about them.

The Myth games are excellent strategy games.

I remember playing Marathon on some school Macs back in 1995...good stuff. But even for me...Bungie wasn't much until they released Myth. Loved that game. Unfortunately I wasn't into PC gaming as much (college) when Myth II came out, so I never picked up a copy...it's a shame.

Indeed, I still have both of the original Myth games, and even picked up Myth 3(not made by Bungie) at a garage sale. Myth 1 and 2 are among my favorite games. The newest patches are fantastic too, I could not get Myth:TFL to work in XP but the patch makes it run perfectly, and I went through and beat the campaign again about a month ago. I really don't like the Halo games, but I want to try Halo Wars when it comes out because I enjoyed Bungie's other RTS games so much.

I had given both of my Myth games to others to try way back then, and now I have no idea where they are. It is amazing that I was still able to purchase a brand new "Myth: The Total Codex" box on ebay for a few dollars last month. I'm currently playing through the campaign in Coop mode with my brother. Great stuff !

For the time, Myth's graphics were very good.
