Racism is perfectly alright on AnandTech as long as it's against white people. Spend a week reading the OT forum and it's plain to see who the bigots are on this forum, most of them have been here for years.

LOL funniest post ever on ATOT, wow. Try no, Mexicans by far get it the worse here. And I've never seen anyone banned for making outright racist comments towards them. I can't think of this white racism you bring up. Care to link to some threads? Seeing how ATOT is made up of mostly Caucasian's I have to scratch my head at where this anti white shit could possibly be coming from. You should win an award for best sarcastic post when not trying to be sarcastic in the first place.

Actually no, I laughed because the humor was strong for once. ATOT + Humor is rare and he nailed it. I'm not sure how a sarcastic post would make me butt sore. He delivered with his post, in fact I'ma make it my signature on here. That's how much I love what he said.

Why do people say "the 'N' word"? We all know what you're thinking. What's the point of this verbal obfuscation? It's like when people say 'darn!' instead of 'damn!' or 'fudge!' instead of 'fuck!'. We all know what you're thinking. You're not any more pure by using verbal substitutions!

Could you pass me that oar, n-word Jim?

I don't know what other forums and website you frequent but there are quite a few where there is really no rules against blatant racism. What you end up with is a ton of posts full of ridiculous racists rants full of derogatory words and there is tons of racial trolling.

ATOT is respectable enough forum that many people can use it at work and not have to worry about getting flagged. We also skirt the line so that we can be degenerate enough to fulfill our occasional immature male nerd tendencies.

There are plenty of places to be racist on the internet. Feel free to go there.

I know a couple black people who are really affected by hearing the N word. When a black person says it or they hear it in a rap song, its fine to them. When I said the lyrics to a rap song and it contained the N-word, it really bothered them. Like, it actually made them sick to their stomach to hear me say it. I don't understand it at all.

From my personal POV, it's not a word which pushes the automatic OMG button. As someone remarked, context is important. The poster who got banned went about being as deliberately offensive as possible. I go to a forum and just about anything goes, however one is as likely to find the minority being ridiculed doing it as well. That's because people don't take themselves too seriously and if an "outsider" comes in and starts, they'll be screwed.

Even so, that's a small board compared to here where there are people who will see is as an unacceptable attack (and on this I agree).

When one comes on begging to be kicked, no one should be surprised when it happens.

I never heard the n word more in my life, than when my son began to buy and then play rap music . Odd as it seems , he now prefers classical music, with old rock standards , but let me repeat , I was really put back by the repeated refrences to the n word in black music . To me it was in a word strange .

Why is it so hard to understand context? I'm not black but it seems pretty obvious that the word takes on a different meaning when spoken by someone of a race that subjugated and enslaved theirs for years, versus someone of their own race.

They sing a song. I sing the same song along with them. But when I sing it, its offensive?

There is definitely a problem regarding the Word. If there is something wrong with it, who says it simply should not matter. Especially if those using it are essentially using it the same way as those not allowed to use it. That's simply a double standard that certainly doesn't help heal the rift between the Races(in this case).

I was raised that n*gger was an attitude, not a color.

My grandchildren are black. (half-black..."zebras," but they still LOOK black.)

Their daddy is a n*gger...and I tell him so every time I see his worthless black ass.

For me, it's the whole"

"Yes, I be on welfare, my momma be's on welfare, and her momma be's on welfare. When my babies gets old enough, they gonna be on welfare too.
Y'all motherfuckers owes it to us.
How would you feel if YOU was a member of a race what had oppressed fo fo-hundred years?"

Black people are just like any other people. They go to work, they pay their bills, they raise their families to be upstanding members of the community. The ONLY differences are superficial things like skin tone and hair texture.

N*ggers seem to have the attitude that society owes them something...and if we don't give it to them, they're gonna take it. Ghetto/thug life is a prime example. Rather than do their best in spite of the circumstances life has handed them, they take the easy way out of a life of crime and welfare.

My wife and I constantly work with out grandkids and try to drive home the point that they're better than their father...and with some hard work, they will be better.
(they know what their father is like and don't want to be like him.)

Again, context. Think about if you've ever beat your little brother up or called him a dumbass. Now think about how you'd react if someone else did the same thing.

By the way, I think it's ridiculous that black people say the word also. By keeping and even defending its use in rap music, it does nothing but hurt any arguments they have against the word's use.

gay people can call either other fags, they do it often. But straight people cannot, I can call my neighbor a cracker, a black person cannot. Call a mexican a wet back and see what happens. But I see them using it amongst themselves regularly. It's definitely not restricted only to the N word, and right or wrong that's how it is.

N[snip]r.

There I said it, ban me.

OK, I will. This thread is left open for what appears to be a try at rational discussion. For the most part it is. Yours was just obvious trolling and a dare to be banned. I am more than happy to oblige you. Come back in a few days.

Is any white person really offended at ALL by 'cracker' or 'honkey' or whatever bullshit that has been thought of? I know I sure don't. Louis CK said it best: "Awww, ruined by day...shouldn't have called me a cracker. Bringing me back to owning land and people, what a drag."
