This is a thread to share cool stuff you've found. Stuff that is great & works great. Stuff that solves problems in a better-than-average way. Stuff that other people may not be aware exists! Services are OK too! Today's product:

Loctite squeeze-grip Superglue gel:

Just found this stuff at Home Depot:

Why it's great:

1. It has a nozzle tip, so it's easy to place the glue precisely where you want it
2. The cap also breaks the tip when you reverse-twist it, so you don't need scissors or a needle
3. The glue is a gel, so it's not all runny. I haven't gotten any CA (cyanoacrylate) on my hands due to this, because I'm not scrambling to hold something or wipe up drips.
4. The sides are designed for finger-squeezing, so you can dole out exactly how much glue you want. This, combined with the gel consistency, is maaaaaarvelous!
5. Compatible with the usual suspects (metal, rubber, ceramics, wood, leather, paper, and most plastics)

This is one of those minor-but-amazing designs...the gel alone is utterly fantastic, because it's more of a paste than a liquid, so you don't have to fiddle with stuff as much. The squeeze design, nozzle, and cap system is just brilliant. It makes using superglue soooooo much nicer for all of those little jobs you have to do, from gluing a shoe back together or rubber feet back on an appliance.

Recommended for:

Use for repairing figurines, costume jewelry, cameras, toys, metal car parts, wiper blades, rubber seals and O-rings. Bonds leather, cork, paper, cardboard, wood, chipboard, fabric, metal, ceramic, rubber and hard plastics such as acrylic, polycarbonate, polystyrene and PVC. Ideal for vertical surfaces and for applications requiring flexibility.

For best results:

* Do not use on polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), silicone or foam rubber, polystyrene foams, glass, very soft leathers or pure bone china
* Do not use in dishwasher, oven or microwave'
* Not suitable for bonding assemblies which will hold hot liquids
* Do not use on glazed surfaces
* Not suitable for gap-filling applications

My mom bought me this can opener a few years ago and it's the best I have ever used. It leaves a smooth edge on the can/top, and the way it opens, you don't get any food on the opener; I haven't had to wash it once and it's still spotless.

If you don't own one, you're probably a jerk.

Does it really leave a smooth edge? I just sliced my finger opening a tiny can of tomato paste last week when making my Instant Pot chili. I decided to spring for an electric unit this time:

But for the same reason:

๐—ฆ๐—ฎ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜† ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ป: The blade cuts along the side of the lid without touching food inside. Leaving no sharp cuts. -- SUPER SAFE!

Haven't gotten it yet to test, as the corona has delayed Amazon deliveries like mad

Yep! I haven't tried to deliberately slice myself up, but I haven't cut myself once since using it. It seems to dull the edges, to a sharpness similar to a butter knife, or maybe just slightly sharper.

I just use the manual version of that can opener. I have used it for years and it has never let me down.

Just noticed that the brand is Kuhn Rikon. They make another GREAT product:

Kuhn Rikon carbon-steel Y-peeler:

3-pack for $15. They don't last forever (made of plastic & eventually the carbon-steel blade wears down), but they are FANTASTIC! They peel everything - potatoes, carrots, butternut squash, apples, mangoes, etc. Plus the corner has a tool for removing eyes from potatoes! I buy a new set every year or two. I'll never go back to a straight metal peeler - useless. Being able to shred even large, hard, and weird-shaped items like butternut squash is awesome!!

This is also one of my highly-recommended accessories for sous-vide & Instant Pot cooking because of how easy it makes peeling fruits & vegetables!

Yeah, I had no idea that they made a can opener that could smooth out the edges! I'll have to remember to report back on how the electric version goes! I have a Kitchenaid can opener with a large ergonomic handle currently, which is nice because my carpal tunnel tends to kick in when I'm opening cans, and I've been using a lot more canned food with the current corona situation - tomatoes, beans, etc. that don't all have those easy pull-tabs on the top. If the electric model doesn't work out (they've always seemed iffy to me, but then again I haven't owned an electric model in ages, so maybe the technology has improved), I'll have to swap it for that manual model!

On the subject of can openers, I use the P38...

It leaves the typical edge on the inside of the can, but I don't think I've ever cut myself on a can aside from doing something stupid with it. Easy to use and *cheap*. The big brother to it, the P51 is easier to hold, but wears out fast. The P38 itself isn't as good as it was decades ago, but it's good enough. Buy a pack, and put them everywhere. I've kept one on my keychain since the 80s. I lost my keys once way back. I had some kind of ID on it, and they were returned by a WWII vet. He especially wanted to know who had a P38. He thought I might be one of his war brothers. I felt bad disappointing him, but I got my keys back at least.

It's little. You unfold it so it looks like the picture, hook the lower notch on the can bead, then rotate your wrist clockwise punching the hooked bill into the can. Let off pressure, start the bill in the notch you already made, and cut more metal. Keep doing that til you get around the can. Sounds harder than it is. I could easily open a can faster than the old school electric can openers, but there's probably something better out today. The P38 wins on size and price. Even counting the slightly inferior modern build, a 10 pack should last a 20yr old the rest of his life if he doesn't chronically lose them.

edit:
I used to send one to school with my daughter to open cans for lunch. If an 8yr old girl can do it, *anyone can.

*Arthritis may be an exception. I haven't gotten that bad yet.

edit2:
My previous more normal favorite was the Swing-A-Way manual opener. They worked great til they didn't. I think can geometry has subtly changed over the years, and the old S-A-W doesn't bite deep enough. That wouldn't be a problem if the US still made stuff, and made stuff meant to be fixed. You could just buy an oversized cutting wheel to fix it. Alas, we don't make shit anymore, and nothing is meant to be repaired, so I switched to the P38.

yep. Bought one of their "entry-level" models almost 4 years ago. Works good...but it's LOUD!

I was big into Roombas back in the day. My last one was a model from China off Amazon....50% quieter, double brushes, spare parts, self-charging, etc. The new ones from Ecovacs even work with Alexa! I don't have one anymore tho, I just use a Shark cordless stick vacuum. It's both a vac & a mop and works SUPER good! The first time I saw the commercial of it sucking up Cheerios like nobody's business sold me on it lol. And they have even crazier stuff out now, like this Bissel wet/dry vac:

Works on carpet as a vacuum, works on hard surfaces as an electric broom, washes the floor WHILE you vacuum, and has dual tanks so you never have to wash with dirty water. Pretty incredible!

if you dont need 10 and it's cheaper here per unit!

i bought because im tired of buying a can opener every year.
walmart's $.99 can opener either breaks apart into pieces or stops going around the can.

i open a can of clams at least once a week to add to my spaghetti/olive oil dinner.

You could just buy a better can opener? I dunno what you expect from a $1 Walmart can opener, but you're getting what I'd expect from it. I have an Oxo Good Grips one, they're ~13 but comfortable to use and mine shows no signs of wear after a few years.

Tri-Flow lubricant

I use this to lubricate everything. Is there stuff I shouldn't use it on? Is there a better all around lubricant?

๐Ÿ˜†I came into this thread forgetting that "neat" has a slightly different usage in the US and I was going to say...

As it's one of the few gins that's better neat than diluted. It's not a "posh" gin but neat it tastes like some of the medicine you used to get as a kid!

I have a couple of things.

1. Medical bandage scissors. I'm talking about the original design like the one below. Not the cheap knock offs that have probably been around as long.

I keep one in the kitchen hanging from the window frame with an N45 magnet. It's the only thing I've ever seen in terms of hand appliances, that can cut through any gossamer material.

You'd think that what you really want is a hefty, hefty hefty pair of scissors that can cut diamond. Nope. What I have the most problems with are very thin, flexible materials that just slide up between the blades like they're not even there.

2. Mitchum's deodorant. They're all amazing but my favorite is the roll on. I've been using this in one form or another since college. If you apply it regularly, you can sweat like an over weight track coach and you will smell absolutely nothing. I don't think they make a variation with perfumes, cologne, whatever.

Because of this, I had only the vaguest memory of what my stank smells like. At least until recently. Since I'm not going anywhere, I'm a bit lax about showering. And since Mitchum's goes on after the shower, there have been multiple days when I haven't used it. One day I thought I caught a whiff of BO. But I couldn't pin it down.

It seems that I was a little sloppy applying the stuff and some peripheral areas of my pits got missed. That's where it was coming from. IOW, not even the irregular showering had any effect after multiple days. It was instead poor attention to detail.

Not really. Looked like you bought Rothco units. They make fake(imported) military gear of dubious quality. They don't have a good reputation amongst the survivalist types.

so i needed the Shelby brand in your link?

oh well.. after i got them to open, it opened a can of clams sort of fine.
it got stuck a couple of times but a little wiggling got it moving again.
i'd figure it'll go smoother after i use it a couple of times?
