I just started lookin at players, and my two narrowed down options are the iaudio and the neuros. I'm intrigued by this backpack feature you keep mentioning. mind explaining it in depth?

well, its like hard drives on a computer. You can have many different ones, with diff types of music on them. Lets say you buy a 20 gig Ipod, and have more than 20 gig of music afterwards, you cant do anything about it. but with neuros, you can keep buying seperate backpacks, of different storage spaces, and use the universal player between them. There is also a 256 mb flash backpack thats very small for use when jogging or whatever

I read the description on the neuros site, and it said something about if you buy the standalone player, it's not compatible with the backpacking feature. It was rather vague, so i'm not sure if that's what they meant, but that's what it sounded like to me. Can you clarify what they were saying?

Im not sure what you read, if u could link me that would help, cause i know for sure that the silver player is compatible with the backpacking feature. They did just come out with the Neuros 2, which i guess is all black, has way better FM transmitting, and some other good DJ features etc. I dont know about it, but the backpack has always been neuro's thing, so i dont think it wouldnt be compatible

Ok, got word from Cool4u2view, a good guy with Neuros, and heres the scoop.

The paragraph hes mentioning reads:

"Please note that this Bundle provides the Neuros 128mb player and small backpack with a 20GB hard drive backpack. HD units not sold as bundles do not have this functionality as the flash memory on those players do not have as much capacity and the small backpack is not sold separately)"

This means, that when you buy a bundle you are getting the main player, a Hard Drive backpack (20-80 gig) and a batter backpack (the small thing). The actual player itself holds 256mb of music, but has no battery, so its saying you cannot turn on the flash player without a battery backpack, which can only be bought in a bundle, but there are other ways to get them. I presonally do not have a battery backpack, but i think it would be a good idea to find one, cause it makes it a lot smaller of an object to carrd around, and that 256 could hold maybe two Essential mixes lol. I hope that answers your question

Well, just bought a neuros this week, and it charges great, the sinc manager software looks like it freezes every once in a while (although it actually doesn't...might just be my computer), but it runs really well, the software and firmware updates are on time and never exaggerated, and while yes, the player is a bit larger than most, it makes up with it in features and storage power. I'm currently having a problem with the FM transmitter (not the tuner), but i've sent a tech email to neuros and will be hearing from them soon

Just got a reply from digitalInnovations today, and I'm not sure what it is, but the autoscan appears to be a little buggy for MiFi. They told me to tune a station in below 103.9 and try it, and it worked. I then scanned back up the band past 103.9, and it worked too, so no complaints.

I got one in February. The features are nice. It is big, but it fits nicely in my hand. The sound quality is good with my Sony MDR-EX71SL earbuds. My only gripe is the slow Sync Manager, though there are alternatives (look on their forums for info).

I am so close to buying one of these. Though I haven't done a ton of research this seems to support the most formats (with more coming all of the time). Not to mention the FM recording and transmitting features. Plus, they recently open sourced the firmware.

It's not a well known product, but it seems to me that this is the way all portable media players should be. Every forum for every other brand I've seen always has one constant complaint, and the neuros has none of them in common with any of them (with the exception of its size). People say it's huge, but I say compared to what? Sure it's bigger than an Ipod, but it also has twice the features. All I know is it's smaller than my cd player and my 208 CD case...
