is it a foot bigger in every dimension, compared to the previous generation?
even if it were, it's 700lbs lighter!!!
Technically the truck looks to be an awesome upgrade, but ugh... I do not like the new looks. Way too much like the current Tundra.
The original concept truck looked better, but I think Ford felt the styling was too aggressive for all customers.
That's what I'm curious about - way lighter aluminum construction, active grill for aerodynamics, start/stop technology, etc. The 2014 Nissan Versa gets 40 MPG and my 2014 Kia Soul gets 30 MPG (about the same dimensions), but my Soul takes a pretty big hit partially I think because it's 300 pounds heavier. So I'm really interested to see what the MPG is on the 2015 F-150 models...I was looking into an FX4 before as our family ride (currently a Civic, which is awesome on MPG but on the smallish side) and this has so many tech/safety/possibly MPG goodies that it's pretty compelling...
I've gotten as high as 22 MPG with the 5.0 in my 2012 Super Crew. Depending on the alignment of the sun, moon, and stars, I think I get 15 to 16 around town.
So I don't think dropping 700 pounds is going to be earth shattering for MPG, but I would suspect that maybe it would get 25 highway and 17-18 around town.
We'll see, but that still isn't a bad increase %wise when you consider the size of the vehicle.
My wife's company is anodizing the new frame rails for it.
Also, remember when pick up trucks were bare bones working class vehicles? Now they are luxury mobiles.
New Ford Ranger 4x4 with 2.0L Ecoboost and 3.0L Duratorq options. That is all.
The F-150s are nice trucks but they're white hat trucks. Too nice for the jobsite, too big for everyday driving. I really do wish they'd bring back small pickups. Wouldn't mind one. Good for hauling stuff around in when you don't need an SUV or fullsize pickup.

Nothing on the transmissions? Where's the rumored 8 or 10 speed auto?
It's got some nifty features...I'll wait and see how much extra they charge for all those gizmos.
What Engines and Transmissions Are Available?
Last year's four-engine lineup has been shuffled and generally downsized because of the significant reduction in the 2015 F-150's overall weight. All of them are backed by the same sturdy six-speed automatic transmission from last year's truck.
* The entry-level 3.7-liter V6 is being downsized to 3.5 liters. Power and torque have not yet been announced.
* An all-new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 slots in above. Power and torque figures have not been revealed, but output is said to "exceed that of other mid-level truck V8 engines." This twin-turbo engine will also have an automatic start-stop system to save even more fuel when the truck is stationary. The system will automatically disengage in 4x4 mode or when a trailer is in tow, and there will also be an off switch. This engine is destined to be a volume seller with excellent fuel economy.
* The popular 5.0-liter V8 carries over, and there's every possibility that last year's rated output of 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque will remain unchanged. This engine will likely be cheaper than the new 2.7-liter Ecoboost V6 and should tow more, but it's destined to burn more fuel, too.
* Last year's successful 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 now stands alone at the top of the heap. It made 360 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque last year, and we expect those figures to carry over into 2015. Even so, performance should improve with less truck to haul around.
* No mention is being made of last year's 6.2-liter V8, which at this point appears to have been discontinued. It may or may not resurface when the 2015 Raptor is introduced at a later date.
* Ford has not released any fuel economy figures except to say that all powertrains will perform better than last year.

i am very curious about the fuel economy improvements.
I also think its kind of ugly. I have always through the f150 was the best looking truck, but i don't think i like this version.
Also, i wish they had that console layout in the fusion. We opted to not get my ford touch in our 2013 fusion because i wanted physical buttons for hvac stuff and the f150 console looks like a perfect compromise. i get physical buttons for the important things but still get the nice touchscreen for the rest.
I just spent some time comparing the two side by side. I agree but can't put my finger on a specific design element that makes the f-150 appear different than the Atlas concept.

Yeah exactly. I don't want to have to look at a screen to change my HVAC or the volume. The rest is fine. In my '14 Kia Soul, the HVAC & volume are physical, but you can access the rest through physical buttons, menus, or steering wheel controls, so you can keep your eyes on the road.
