Yeah they're ugly as hell, I feel like I was using Windows 95 or some shit when this ugly ass screen popped up. Hopefully they'll change it before too long.

Oh yeah and avatars, wtf? 10 terminator and matrix variations, chinese dragon anime, and a mouse or two, awesome; thank you anime fanboy for choosing the long list of 3 types of avatars for us to use.

Nice, those are all great examples of great looking forums.

The new AT Forums' look just has too many different things going on. Clunky. The old avatars weren't great but were at least better than the new because they had a consistent look to all of them.

When choosing my new avatar it felt like I was choosing an avatar for a Dungeons & Dragons forum. It was embarrassing actually. Threads look really messy now because there are all sorts of random avatars and animated smileys that don't go together stuck on top of a generic 2003 website color scheme going on.

The embedded images is a good thing in theory but I feel like it might get abused and add to the chaos. Overall it just looks like the dreggs of the internet forums that you stumble onto via google every once in a while. I think of AT as a brand name online, at least among the tech website niche, and I expected better from them.

not bad, i thought it was going to look the the beta but they did a remarkable job reinventing FT style.

Jeez, give it some time. I don't think they were focused on the skinning of the boards when they switched. They've got a lot of little issues to fix before they will considering skinning the boards.

Frankly, it looks fine. Yea, there's a lot nicer looking boards out there, but I don't come for how the board looks.

Some people will never be happy and will find something to bitch and complain about every time.

Looks good so far.

I'm sure more skins will be implemented.

Now I've just got to get rid of the visual associations of your old avatars with your new ones.

I'm pretty unhappy with the switch overall. Sure, it'll be nice to have a working search (when they turn it back on), but I always got search to work for me in FT. You just had to sort by rating descending and it sorted by date. And the timewarps were actually pretty fun (and more than likely not a FT issue, but a server clock issue). I think trashing an entire forum system for those types of things was major overkill. I really liked the way FT looked and functioned. I'm generally disappointed with just about every aspect of vB. It just looks juvenile compared to the old forums.

Gee, I'll make a few comments. I have been trying to hit the Anandtech Forums for almost a week, and finally I can get in. Don't know what others' experience has been. They didn't do much to inform us, just said down for conversion.

Well, I miss the date and time of each post. Why isn't that on each post?

I also don't see a way to insert a smiley/etc. into the body of a post where I want it. What's up with that???

I don't even see a way to insert a link, WTF?

I already miss not having all the forums on the left where with a click you can go to the forum of your choice. This is an improvement???

Why would I want an icon for my message. Icons (smileys/etc.) should be placeable anywhere in the body of a message%

Agreed, but vB is better than fusetalk.
Maybe I'm not seeing what you see, but see the post I made 5 minutes ago. I outline many ways in which vb is inferior to ft, at least by virtue of what I'm seeing on first blush. Many useful features of FT appear to not be present in VB. For one thing, at least right now it is SLOW AS HELL. I would have bolded that, but I don't see any way of even bolding text now. This is progress????????????? Near as I can tell all they've succeeded in doing is fucking up the forums!

umm it looks 95% like FT did, and honestly the 5% that looks different is better looking. I actually have an Avatar that doesn't look like it was drawn by a 9 year old with Down Syndrome.
I don't give a rat's ass about the avatars. It's just about the least important feature of these forums IMO. What happened to bolding, italics, etc.?

OK, I see it's working but I had to put in the symbols myself in the brackets. Where are the buttons to do that?????? Even when I "Go Advanced" I don't see those buttons. :confused; (and I typed that in too)

another forum im on is vb and I always liked anandtechs forums better. I'm sure there are some low level reasons to switch but I like the old one better.

also while nested quotes are annoying sometimes it good to see what people are commenting about. This thing forces you to not nest quotes.

it looks much more "cookie cutter"...i miss the personality of the previous layout

Oh yes...my God this is ugly.

(a) Looks extremely generic
(b) Huge waste of space everywhere (huge buttons for 'quote', large amounts of whitespace between lines, not as crisp)
(c) The pics really takes away from the professionalism. It should be limited to Camera Forums only

What fusetalk did right is how it presented itself to the user. Clean, simple, and crisp. Now seeing images of the latest interest memes everywhere, a bunch of different icons (none of which have a common style like the old icons), and huge amounts of unused space is just ridiculous.

I'm fine with switching, and I'm fine with change...but lets not get rid of that which is GOOD.

IMO to me if they just STREAMLINE and make a clean/simple design I'll enjoy it more. I don't need friggin ugly icons that say "edit" "quote" bla bla. More space for user posts, less space for other junk
