My Alltel contract is up in mid-July. Any suggestions on new carriers? I am not a fan of Verizon's phones -- they always lock stuff out and make them run like junk. With Sprint, I get 20% off phones, accessories, and plans, but apparently their service is terrible. I want an iPhone, but I only get 10% off service per month (which will put me at what... $80 / month?).

Help me.

My sprint contract just happens to run out some time in the middle of July. I'm going to be moving to another carrier in any case (Sprint coverage is terrible here), so I'm seriously considering the iphone. The price was too high before, but $199 is low enough to make it a contender.

They fixed a lot of problems with the last one and lowered the price, impressive, but it does nothing my N95 doesn't. Plus I don't want to switch to AT&T.

Yes.

Getting two of them actually.

One for me and one for the wife.

8GB versions, though I'm more and more tempted to get the 16GB for myself at least.

Stupid pole,
not getting the iphone because $100/mo is ridiculous. I'll probably switch back to sero when that new htc touch phone comes out.

3. I'm getting an xv6900 next month.

Don't do it! That phone is a huuuuge POS, windows mobile works terrible without a stylus or a keyboard. None of the apps were designed with touch in mind, so you'll be trying press on 4x4pixel buttons.

Seriously considering it. I have a phone with very small monthly bill, so I will have to think about the jump in monthly cost from $49 to close to $70 or more.

I'll definitely get one if they allow us to choose the slower $20/month data plan. If they don't, I don't think I will, crossing $20/month really bothers me a lot.

Will you succumb to the dark side? (Or the white side for $299 )

Absolutely not. As long as I have my $30 SERO plan, I'm staying put.

I've been out of contract for a few months so I think I will cancel my landline and use cell only so yes, I plan on getting one.

Rogers announces 30$ unlimited (which will still have a cap) data with select voiceplans so I'm thinking ~75$ a month will get me one (plus the 199$ to get it)

Hell no. Mostly because every girl I know says: "Oh I want an iPhone so bad, they are sooooo cute! Oh and an Macbook Air too!!" And then every boss at my company keeps asking me about them for their kids...

Hell no. My cell phone only needs to make clear phone calls. I don't need a browser, mp3 player, pic viewer, camera, (although sometimes that comes in handy) or any of the other crap they cram into the newer phones, usually at the loss of telephone quality.

I'd MUCH rather just have a cell phone that actually made calls that were clear for both ends and didn't drop calls.

I'll be using it mostly as a work phone and a music player when I go work out. It's much smaller than my xv6700(a brick by today's standard) and plus my 2 year upgrade is coming up in July.

No. I pay $35/month for SERO (500 minutes, unlimited text and data, unlimited nights and weekends). I would love to get a first gen iPhone and put it on Tmobile. Just found their employee plan...Very nice...

I have a 2g iPhone now. Not planning on getting the 3g for a while because:

1. The monthly fee is $10-15 more (unclear if text messages are included in the data plan now or not)
2. There is no 3g coverage in my area at the moment
3. I'm worried that the new phones will not be easy to jailbreak for a while
