Here's another thought for consideration, you're getting an 8GB iPod touch for $200, AND a phone.

No. AT&T is seriously fucking this up.
I'm going to pick up a used firt gen iPhone to use on TMobile once the new software is released and hopefully the prices drop.

I have the 1st gen iPhone and it's miles the best phone on the market. You can yell "blackberry" "blackberry" until you're blue in the face, I've been dealing with blackberries since day 1 (the pager style) and they are not even in the same ballpark.
I'll be grabbing the 3G as soon as my budget (and my fiancee) allows.

Nope, getting a next-gen BlackBerry from work instead.

- Voice dialing
- Stereo BT
- Copy/Paste
- Mutitasking 3rd party apps
- Trusted business/DoD strength security
- Replaceable battery
When you have any of that on an iPhone you might be close to getting anywhere near the BB ballpark. A smart UI and interface can entertain for only so long, then you need substance.

Seriously, I wouldn't take 10 iPhones to give up my N95.

oh, the ironing. Blackberries are awesome for business purposes (yes, I know it's capable of other little things too), but you're kidding yourself if you think that a blackberry is more "entertaining" than an iphone.

reading comprehension ftw.
He's not saying a Crackberry is entertaining, he's saying all the iPhone has is an entertaining UI. Once you stop oooing and ahhhing at the pinching and such, it doesn't have much depth.

I'm quite torn with this. The iPhone 3G has just about everything I'd want in a pda-phone: quad band, 3G, beautiful screen, tons of storage (plus microSD slot), GPS, wifi, bluetooth (although no open profiles?), supposedly great battery life, and an excellent UI. However, there are 4 flaws that are seriously making me hesitate:
1. No physical keyboard. This really bothered me on the original iPhone as I made lots of mistakes while typing and that really slowed me down.
2. Screen is not VGA. This is not too big of a deal given the iPhone's excellent UI and web browser, but a 640x480 screen would've been much nicer.
3. No copy & paste. Along with the keyboard, this is one of the biggest weaknesses of the UI.
4. Price. Yes, the actual phone will be at $199 (which is pretty cheap for a nice iPod Touch), but the rate plan will probably be more than double what I pay now. Over two years (or is it a 3 year contract?), it'll cost me at least an extra $1000 (yes, this is after I subtract what I pay now) plus the cost of the phone. I guess it's a question of whether having a great media player, web browsing & gps everywhere I go is worth that much money.
Decisions, decisions. Guess I'll see what the reviews say.

There is no microSD slot in the iPhone 3G. Bluetooth can only be used to connect to headsets.

I don't think it's quad-band either.
