Sadly, there's rumors that the US version will ride on a different platform and have a different body.

I don't know to believe them though, since Ford is moving towards sharing platforms, I don't see them continuing to use different platforms in different markets for new models.

Those rumor seem really unfounded for several reasons. The biggest being that Ford is trying VERY hard to consolidate its platforms to reduce production costs. One of the goals with using the Mondeo platform was to start that consolidation without losing the "driveability" that Mazda's are known for (they have always been the closest to a "European" Japanese automaker).

I'm really excited about this upcoming vehicle...especially the nearly guaranteed to come 'speed6 version.

Edit: Saw on C&D website that you may be in fact correct that this will not be the model coming to the US...sighh...Mazda...don't screw up the US version

I do agree with you though, those rumors seem out-of-line with what Ford's goal is.

But then again, the US also gets the fugly 3-bar-grille design that tries to make everything look like an F-250.

Only an IDIOT would would call a station wagon a vehicle for "dorks" or say that they "look stupid."

All types of vehicles have their purpose in life. SUVs, wagons, hatchbacks, sedans, coupes, minivans, pickups, etc.

A wagon is for someone who wants the cargo space of an SUV without the high ride height or poor fuel economy. You also have the benefit of better handling.

I chose my 3s Hatchback over the 3s Sedan b/c it can carry alot more cargo than the sedan (which I often do for my eBay sales... I transport large laser printers, plasma TVs, LCD TVs, etc.).

Like I said, putting down an entire classification of vehicles b/c of your own insecurities is downright stupid.

AFAIK, all V6 Mazdas (with the exception of the Tribute) are gonna start using the 3.7 liter... at least in the US.

Exactly, if you have the need for utility fine... There is a need for milk tucks too, but they are still ugly. Wagons are still wagons if you have the need NFS4 thats cool, but it's still a grocery getter.

i wonder what the specs on the V6 are?

edit: the V6 is used in the current CX-9, where it makes 273 horsepower and 270 torques. i'd like to see them massage that a little for use in the mazda6.

Not bad looking but nowhere near as nice as the euro version. Looks kinda big too. That article the op posted had me all excited with their comment about the new model weighing less than the old model and getting more mpg's.

For some reason I've lost interest in the looks of this car. I think I've spent too much time over here in Europe this last year as I'm starting to like European styling vs. Japanese styling. If you had asked me 2-3 years ago I would have said I liked the Mazda/Lexus/Acura look more than the BMW/Mercedes/VW. Audi styling has always been my favorite...so I took that out of the comparison.

hahaha....these engineers do not try anymore. It just looks like a bigger Mazda 3. Still looks nice though, but it is nothing special.
