<< Well I junked the Epox and putting in a dragon board to see if I have any better luck with that, I am not going to build people a computer that just runs stable for a month and then bugs out on them, But this way I will have tried all the KT266A boards but as it stands I wouldn't build anyone a 8KHA+ >>

Any hardware can just die ,,my AMD 900mhz T-bird went faulty after 6 weeks did I blame AMD and stop buying AMD?...nope ,I`m the happy owner of XP 1700+ and Epox 8KHA+ (3 months now) ,anyway sorry to hear about your bad luck but these things will happen regardless of which brand etc people buy.

<< Are there any options in the BETA BIOS that aren't in the latest release BIOS? >>

I think the only difference is that 4 Way Interleave can be enabled again after 144 FSB or so. Older ones disabled that function after a certain FSB. At least, that's my best guess from what I've seen on my machine.

<< For my soon to be 8KHA+ system I'm shopping for a quiet power supply.

The Enermax EG365P-VE(FC) needs a motherboard connection to power and control the second fan. Does the 8KHA+ have an available connector for this?
Thanks.
>>

The 8KHA+ has 2 fan headers, one labelled "chassis" and has RPM monitoring while the other is "PSU Fan" without the RPM feature.

So the answer is yes, the 8KHA+ has room to accommodate 2 case fans.

It does not *NEED* this header, and the header does not *POWER* the second fan. It merely controls it and displays an RPM readout.

Put the PSU lead onto the chassis fan header if you want to monitor RPM. Otherwise put it on the "PSU Fan" header if you just want the on/off control feature (when the computer goes on standby, etc.). Or just leave it unplugged.

LocutusX is right. I got an Epox 8KHA+ and an Enermax PSU. That PSU does not need to be plugged to function. Beware there is one of the three fan header that can't monitor RPMs. Anyone knows something about this?

Yes. The PSU Fan header does not monitor RPM. That's why you plug your PSU Fan lead into the Chassis Fan header. Your chassis fans should be using 4-pin leads anyways.

Of course you gotta go on the via web and download the generic drivers for audio. Don't think these drivers will give you plenty options. In "generic drivers", there's the word generic.

Surround sound=no, Good sound=no, Sound=Yes, I know all about parts that stop working, I just had to many computers to work on that day so I just set the 8KHA+ in the corner and built a Dragon + this way I have hands on with all of them other than the Iwill, Well I got the 8KHA+ back out and it was one of the memory chips that was bad, So it is running like a champ again but with 256 mags of Corsair 2400, I am on the dragon+ right now and it seems to be a good computer, Had some errors loading the sound drivers but got it running and seeing what it will do and it ain't no 8KHA+ when it comes to speed, But then again I have yet to see any KT266A boards that are,

Thsi may sound like a stupid question, but how exactly do I flash my bios to the newest version? In the past, I have just created a bootdisk at bootdisk.com, extracted the bios files to the disk, and booted from the floppy. I noticed that the newest bios file download only contains the .bin file. Is that all you need to flash, or do you also need the awdflash.exe file found on previous bios files. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Apoptosis, you put the .bin on a floppy, you reboot. When your PC attempt to POST, you hit F2. Then you follow the on-screen instructions.

I just did that with the latest BIOS (8th of January latest Epox "official" version) and it worked out fine. There's still the delay in bootup in win2k, still haven't tried OCing any higher.

I'm at 150FSBx6, slowish ram setting (crucial 256mb pc2100 2.5), but it seems to be stable so far.My room is kinda warm, so that's an added bonus

Anybody notice that the January Bios(I think it was dated 8th) has been taken off the Epox 8KHA+ BIOS list, the old 11/02/2001 is now the latest again,I wonder if there was problems with it?

Here`s the link to the Bios page for it.

Thank You! I just read your post after messing with my Epox board for hours. C1h, over and over. Tried different memory stick, no luck. Then after reading your post I reseated the sticks 5 or 6 times, wiggling gently, swapping and pressing fimrly. Finally I got past the C1h error and will now finish up (hopefully) and enjoy the new machine.

hey folks,
thinking of getting the 8KHA+ and currently have a PAL8045 HS. Saw the mod picture at the Alpha site. Anyone here using that HS, and if so was the mod difficult? Also, the standoff washers present a problem with resistors apparently. Is it really a problem or easily modified? Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Hmmm don`t know, you tried the normal things like clear CMOS and try and run at it 133 FSB default speed and go up from there etc,it might be a problem with that bios, overclocking is not my strong point Viperoni so pm Insane3D(he`s mad on overclocking ).
