Hey Mem,

Jan 8th 02 BIOS working 100% for me. Only 1 prob I've found is that at 140FSB and higher, 1CMD is not selectable. It always uses 2CMD. I guess they programmed it in to account for all of the sh!tty RAM that some people are using. It's too bad, even my crapass Samsung works fine @ 140FSB, using the most aggressive settings including 1CMD.

I think in the "hacked" Jan 16th BIOS, that feature is disabled and you can always force 1CMD.

<< thinking of getting the 8KHA+ and currently have a PAL8045 HS. Saw the mod picture at the Alpha site. Anyone here using that HS, and if so was the mod difficult? Also, the standoff washers present a problem with resistors apparently. Is it really a problem or easily modified? Any suggestions? >>

I have the 8045. The HS clears the capacitor without modification. One washer touches a resistor, not a problem I don't think as it just touches on the washer edge, no weight or pressure is on the resistor, but next time I have it apart I will clip the edge of the washer with wire cutters so it completely clears the resistor.

Why is the January Bios for the 8KHA+ missing from the bios page on EpoX's website now?

Seems to be gone, anyone know why?

LocutusX I`m glad it`s working fine for you,I just find it odd that Epox have removed that BIOS update from their website,so you could say I am curious why .

Viperoni, just set the speed manually to 133; then it will recognize it as pc 2100. I'm currently using 3 sticks of crucial ram running fine at the 150 fsb, 4way interweave, CAS2 settings (voltage bumped to 2.9)

Justed received my 8KHA+ mobo. Have everything installed and it fired up perfectly. Currently installing Win2K Server, Diskeeper 6, Win2K SP2, SANDRA 2002

Memory benchmarks look great and I haven't even tweaked the memory settings yet. Running the default memory settings.

I loves this motherboard. A+++++++++

UPDATE: Have system up and running and all applications installed. Excellent motherboard!!! No problems running this system with an Antec PP303X PS.

Can i unplug the chip-fan safely on this motherboard? If not, does it need active cooling or can I replace the heat-sink with a bigger one without using a fan?

I think a Zalman heat sink MIGHT be able to do with out active cooling, but I doubt it.

AMD chips run hotter than most others, invest in a good heatsink and fan. I have the Alpha 8045 and love it, it costs a little more, but having a 80mm fan running slower than a 60mm make it MUCH MUCH quieter

I think he meant using passive cooling for the northbridge...in that case, I really doubt it's gonna harm anything, and you won't fry the thing. If you get problems afterwards, just plug it back in. Make sure ya have decent airflow. You could also look for a different heatsink for the thing. But yeah...MSI boards don't use active cooling on the northbridge and all works well.

You could also disconnect the fan and heatsink, add some Arctic Silver on there, and put the heatsink back. That'd most likely help out quite a bit.

Ok. Yes I meant the northbridge chip. I've orderer a ZALMAN ZM-NB32 chip cooler to replace the standard heat-sink-fan combination. I suppose that should be sufficient. BTW, I orderer a Alpha8045 with a Pabst NGL and a new quite power supply as well.
I guess the fan on my GF3 Ti200 will make most noise when I've installed my new stuff. But I don't think that gpu will do it without active cooling. Or can I replace that fan with a large heat-sink as well?

I too an running the Antec PP303X 300watt PS without any problems. Check my primary rigs profile to see the load that the 300watts carries.

No stablility issues at all. A+

Actually I have it set at 150 right now
Board's jumper @ 133....
2 sticks of corsair pc2400 cas2, interleave on

<< Hmmm don`t know, you tried the normal things like clear CMOS and try and run at it 133 FSB default speed and go up from there etc,it might be a problem with that bios >>

I figure that's the problem.
Oh well, next BIOS release I'm gonna update
