Factory - Dodge/Chrysler has a history of putting out ACR models.

Neon ACR
SRT Neon ACR
Viper ACR

Fans dubbed ACR as "American Club Racer"
ACR to Dodge is "competition package"

I just love these big engines and the torque it produces. The powerband is so wide that it pulls throughout the whole rpm range. It just feels like it'll keep going and going. Nothing like a Viper! Love the car. If you could combine the performance of the new Vipers with the looks of the second gen Vipers GTS, it would be the perfect Viper. Look that kills and the performance to match.

That was the sloppiest lap ever. That time could have been faster if it had been driven by a better driver.

Looked like a great driver to me. You don't get the posted time if you're a bad driver. The man can drive. He's hitting the rev limiter on purpose and letting it ride there on those sections of the track. That's probably actually faster for him than upshifting and then downshifting again on that section of the track.

and it doesnt even look like he's working as hard as what the gt-r driver and the corvette driver had to work.

that's probably because you can't push a dodge viper to its limits... once you cross the line on a twisty course like the ring that can mean death.

The ACR you can. All the modifications are for handling, mainly the chassis and suspension, it's got a stock Viper engine (granted, stock = 600 horsepower). I've read up on it a good bit, at 100 mph it generates 10x the rear downforce that a stock viper does. It's also got a chin spoiler and such to keep the nose down.

Also, I don't know if you can call it a production car, I thought it was made for the track only.

They'd been doing track tests against the Lotus Exige 240 and one of the Porsche track oriented cars (I'd assume the 997 GT3 RS) and the Viper was beating them all.

I'd still take a Porsche over it.

10x the downforce? Jesus. Probably uses a full tank of fuel to run the ring! Still utterly badass though.

No, it's got a giant carbon fiber wing on the back (bigger than the GT3 RS').

From Motor Trend

At 150 mph, the regular Viper coupe generates 100 pounds of downforce; at the same speed, the Viper ACR generates 1000 pounds of downforce.

If you're a track guy, for the money it's a good buy (if performance is what you want). It's about halfway between (price-wise) the Elise track car and 911 GT3 RS.

Very impressive, but in all fairness the ACR is more or less a race car. Still a hell of a performer for the money, though.

Wow thats nice....I hate Chrysler but I've liked the styling of Vipers over the vettes. They just went away from their styleing cues.

I've always thought that the viper looks are unmatched in terms of aggressiveness. Not many cars look so mean coming down the road.
Glad to see the Viper win one. Amazing of how fast that car is going on the track.

Not the same sort of car as aZ06, ZR1, F430, or GT-R etc. though.

Not really a victory over any of them.

How do other race cars compare to that time?

It's an epic fast time for a race car of that class. The added downforce setups they put on those GTS cars usually comes at the sacrifice of some speed, particularly at the top of the dial. It's great for typical race courses with few straights, but less so for courses like the ring that have some seriously beautiful stretches where you can give it the beans full-on.

I'd imagine it'd be well ahead of the GT3 RS and the Elise and Exige track cars, there is a pretty significant power difference.

On the contrary, I'd say it's less of a race car than the GT3 RS. AFAIK it doesn't have a cage. Moreso than the GT-R or ZR1 for sure though.

I don't get the people saying this isn't like a regular car. Why isn't this the same? It's street and track legal. Viper never had the prettiest interior and wasn't the most comfortable ride. A/C in these cars blow pretty much hot air and comes out softly everytime you press the gas. But look at cars like Elise and Exige. These have even worse interiors and isn't the most comfortable either. Yet people consider these regular car. So what makes this Viper any different?

r-comps on the ACR.

Yeah, to recap : this thing is wicked fast, but almost completely impractical as a DD unless you positively bleed money.

Super downforce/grip tuning + Rcomp tires = probably fuel economy in single-digits along with eating those tires like there's no tomorrow.

Two things. First, the GT-R and ZR-1 "claimed" to use stock tires when running the ring, yet people have claimed that they scrubbed their tires and such, so "stock" is a loose term. No one really knows except the MFR's.

Second, is any Ferrari/Lamborghini/supercar really a "practical" daily driver? You're probably right, it more than likely gets in the single digits for fuel mileage, just like ever Ferrari and Lamborghini out there. And at "normal" driving speeds the downforce won't eat up the tires as quickly I'd imagine.
