It's not a timed exclusive. Temple of Osiris is coming to PC end of this year, this is Rise of the Tomb Raider which is exclusive permanently (unless they go down like Crytek and have to pull a Ryse of their own)

I have literally zero facts to back that up, I'm just going by history and assuming it will be timed. So who knows.

What the hell are you talking about? Tomb Raider has always been on PC, since 1996
This really pisses me off, not just how Microsoft takes a 18 year old franchise and suddenly makes it exclusive, but Crystal Dynamics actually playing along with it

Its because of shit like this that Microsoft has the reputation they have nowadays
Any positive thing that could have come out of their conference was vastly outshadowed by this

Lets see if Sony pulls anything similar now

Was it? Didn't even know, but that's kind of the point. Lara Croft was an iconic PSX character imo - I would say the series' wheelhouse is on consoles.

Its getting published by Microsoft Studios apparently instead of Square Enix, no PS4 release for awhile, maybe a PC release, some MS titles make it to PC.

Meh. TR 2013 was such a departure from the Tomb Raider games I've spent many hours playing that some serious things would have to change for me to consider it again. The most complex puzzle took me less than ten minutes to figure out, and I think I got about 75% through the game before I got to one that I had to apply any problem-solving skill to. It's yet another FPS now (except of course you're running behind her rather than seeing through her eyes), except it also has irritating interactive cut scenes.

Microsoft are really trying hard to alienate their core market (ie. Windows users), IMO. I'm trying to think of a decent decision they've made since Office 2010 (which wasn't so much a decision, rather the effect of an older one).

Why? Porting from XBone to PC is now simple, you can even use the same controller. This game will have sold 95% of all sales it is going to get in the primary console market in 6 months (after that the sales will be in the secondary market). It would be leaving money on the table for them not to release it to PC.

I am nearly sure this will be a Microsoft exclusive. Once MS is sure that they have got as many console sales as possible from having TR on the One, they will then allow Edios to ship out the PC version (Windows only).

If it contains anywhere near as many QTE's as the last one, I'm really not interested anyway. And if it's some stunt by Microsoft in trying to force interest in the XB1, then quietly release it on PC at a later date, I wouldn't buy it on principle.

I've found the same sort of thing, but now I'm finding that my love for indie is fading as there is just so many 8 bit platformers or rouge-lite games I can play. Now it seems what is really interesting me is the small not-quite-indie-not-quite-AAA studies like Larian and InXile that is producing some really good stuff. Maybe call them AA titles.

I don't understand this exclusivity BS. It _always_ works against the publisher's and studio's customers. Why do that? Do premiums paid by Sony or MS really outweigh that?

To me this just means i wont be adding this game to my 250+ steam library. Given the amount of alternative entertainment, I'd consider that more their loss than mine.

I'm pretty much the same, but I'll add to your list - games that are a mix of popular mechanics, so that they all feel like the same game. Tomb Raider is a game like that, and I hated it.

Loved the old Tomb Raider games, which were about exploration and acrobatics with some combat thrown in to keep you on your toes. The new Tomb Raider is modern Far Cry + modern Deus Ex + any of the other generic AAA FPS titles out there. Far Cry + Deus Ex sounds cool, but not when every FPS is that + a new character, different setting, and different items.

So, don't care in the least if the next TR is a Xbox exclusive.

Any reference for his? I thought Square owned the IP since they bought Eidos. Kinda weird to allow another studio to publish their game.

More likely, Square had already said TR was a failure and didn't want to publish the sequel. So, MS jumped in and said "Hey! We will give you money for Xbox only release!"
