The no-money way to quiet down my system!

Hey! i was getting sick and tired of my Delta 7500+ rpm screamer, and had an extra case fan, and didnt want to spend 15-20$ on a 60mm to 80mm adapter. So i found 2 small lock ties (those things that hold wires etc...) and i strapped an evercool 30 cfm onto it, and used tape for a little extra stability.

Wait...i think i heard something....whats that noise???oh its my hard drive!!!! my hard drive! i can hear my hard drive!

Has anyone else done anything like this?? My new full load is 47C , which is 6 above my old full load, but i think its worth it.

yup I did something similar to that recently.

here's what I did:
replaced 60mm fan with Panaflo 80mm and strapped it on with two rubber bands. What helped my temps a bit was to hang the fan a little off center, so that you get more of the fan blades going over the center of the heatsink. I actually was able to reduce my temps about 6C doing that!

Now I hear the hard drive whining too, but I ordered myself a Seagate Barracuda IV from Newegg, and that will kill the noise.

My next one will use a 120mm fan mounted to a funnel made out of rubber.

I really cant hear my hard drive now ( I could when i had the side of my case off...)

Dont be suprised if you see my delta in the for sale section soon...cause i dont think ill be able to go back to it.

Ill try moving it off center to the right a little, because with the air flow coming in the front and out the back it will get almost all the air to pass over the heatsink.

best way to quiet it down is to unplug it!! . you can always put it further away from you also..taht' waht i did. Mine screams so i put it under my desk and killed the noise by 1/3. Still loud though

Yeah that what my bro does... his pc is so damn loud (server loud) that he bought longer cables and put the pc in another room! lol!

I got 2ea 10,000 RPM SCSI drive running with the rest of my scsi drives. So i can't hear anything else.

Here is what I did. Cardboard duct covered in air conditioning foil tape. It is an Alpha PAL6035 ducted to the 80mm 40cmf fan on the back of the case. Sucks the hot air right out the back. I guess you could do a similar thing with a 92mm fan. My case temps are 24c which if room temp and my cpu temps are 47c full load. T-Bird 1000 at 1400 Mhz. 1.66v
