It's not true. Have any of you people ever lived outside the US? Every "wise" person in the world wants to live in the US? The vast majority of people I've worked with in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK are very happy where they are. Why wouldn't they be? They're nice places to live.

Um... I don't think immigrants are really the best proof that everyone wants to be here.
A lot of Americans, including many who frequent these boards, really do not understand how good the quality of life is in America compared to the rest of the world because the truth is that most of us have very little to zero understanding of what it is really like to live in most other countries. I am not talking about comparing us to some back woods 3rd world country or anything extreme like that either. I am talking about the majority of all countries.
I realize that the US has a shit ton of flaws and there are so many things which merit complaining about that it would probably take the better half of our lives to write them all down in detail, but that doesn't change the fact that the average citizen's standard of living over here is pretty darn good. The opportunity is out there for everyone much more so than most other countries where it sometimes takes generations of family members to even gain the kinds of opportunities that we have presented to each of us let own become successful while trying to take advantage of them.
Then of course there is another very simple thing that many people take for granted and that is our geography. Do you guys realize how incredibly fortunate we are that there are two oceans which separate us on both sides from a tremendous amount of the rest of the world and their problems?
There are a lot of characteristics that I like about other various countries, but even when given the opportunity to press the "easy button" and move out of the US I don't think I would ever go through with it. The grass is always greener...

I've been living in Switzerland for 6 weeks, and everyone wants to be like the Americans. Switzerland is one of the nicest (albeit expensive) European countries. Even so, there are signs posted everywhere, "Learn Wall Street English!" and "get your American green card!" Apparently immigrating to America is a big business here.
Obviously not everyone wants to pack up and leave for America, but that just reveals an entire aspect of European culture that hasn't been brought up yet. Have you ever gone to a European McDonald's? It's exactly the same as an American McDonalds, but with two key differences.
1) The prices are much more expensive (usually McDonalds is the cheap option, in Switzerland it is as expensive as many restaurants)
2) The place is always PACKED. They'll usually fill the interior and a large outdoor area with people at all times of day. EVERYONE wants to eat at McDonalds here. I thought for certain that they must serve better food, but it tastes like the exact same shit we have in America. I hate McDonalds (but everyone thinks that Americans love it)
There are clothing stores here dedicated to American fashion! As much as the world hates us, the Europeans sure do want to be like us! Yeah, our nation has its problems, but we are the popular kids in the lunch room.
