Damn, for a split second I thought about getting this until I realized. No multitasking or notifications (like for msn messenger.)

Screw that...lol

no more subsidies please. let's get out of this stupid carrier subsidies world and stop having people b!tch because they're on AT&T. we probably threw too many people onto that network with the iPhone.

I just don't get it, who's buying this? Most of the market for this already has 1)an iPhone or an ipod touch, and 2)a Macbook or a Windows laptop. This doesn't replace the iphone or ipod touch because it's too frigging big. I keep my ipod touch in my pocket because I never notice it's there. When I need it I use it. It's not a hassle to keep with me, so I always have it when I want to use it. This thing? I'd have to make plans to bring it along. Then at home, I'd rather use a laptop. My laptop is always at the perfect viewing angle because it, get this, sits on my lap with the screen towards my face. Plus my laptop can do little things like display flash content and mutitask.

This seems pretty weak. I figured it'd be great or totally lame (no in between). Sadly, it is lame.

Come on "one more thing".

If there was no contract for the 3g data....I dont understand why they wouldn't open it up to all the carriers. I guess it would need a different chipset to work on VZ/Sprint? But it should work on t-mobile, right?

"We think we've got the goods. We think we've done it. Another thing we're excited about is that there's already 75m people who know how to use this because of how many iPhones and iPod touches we've shipped."

But the thing is Steve, they already have iPhones or iPod touches.

T-Mobile is 3G AWS AFAIK... not the same as regular 3G. Hopefully apple will put 3G AWS compatible chips in the iPad and new version of the iPhone.

Unless it directly supports the 3G frequencies that T-Mobile uses (which would be unlikely; they use an odd band compared to the rest of the world) then it won't work in 3G mode on T-Mobile's network. If this thing doesn't support 2G (which is entirely possible) then it won't work on T-Mobile's network period.

The pricing is much better than I thought, but charging people $130 more just for a 3G chip is a complete rip-off IMO. I'm guessing most of that money will go straight to at&t for infrastructure upgrades, because they're going to need it.

I'm fairly disappointed in the device simply because of the lack of multitasking. I'm having a hard time figuring out who their target market is for this thing other than Apple diehards and gadget lovers.

Well the original iPhone was a POS too. It couldn't do half the things any smartphone could've done. Then they lowered prices and introduced apps and a brand new 2.0 OS. It took off.

The iPad could be one of those things. I see it useful as maybe a note taking device or a casual couch device. Perhaps they should've introduced capacitive styluses like the HTC HD2 and talked about how students can take this to class like they now take tablets/netbooks to class.

Because having 3G capabilities is enough for the world. Satisfying CDMA users is a small market. Probably not worth the ROI.

If it doesn't support 2G, you'll have a lot of angry ATT customers... heh.

Agree it is pretty underwhelming.

a 3g version for 499, flash, and multitasking and I'd strongly consider one

but this doesn't offer me anything outside of the macbook pro and iphone I already have

My friend was just asking.. "What about handwriting recognition, isn't that a big feature of a tablet?"

Correct me if I'm wrong here but a stylus would not work with the capacitive touch screen, so you'd have to write with a finger, no?

I think I feel differently than most people.

I think the iPad could very well replace laptops for many people. Not all people, but many of them.
