I've stayed out of this thread since midday Monday as I was curious to see in retrospect how it evolved along with the news. It's been interesting and pretty much went as we expected and I think worse for Trump than I thought, at least this soon.

For me, the interesting events revolve around the firing of DefSec and a replacement of civilian leadership at this late date. Is Trump planning a coup? That remains a possibility and noticed by many here but most importantly by this man

How odd it would be to see an uprising by the Miltary to keep the properly elected government from being overthrown by the old one. I don't even know if there's a word for it as a coup usually refers to the overthrow of a government and not protecting the legitimate from the illegitimate.

That would be another first in US history but a takeover by Trump appears to be his last option. The SCOTUS has decided that electors are bound to the will of the state and this is expressed in the vote. Besides, I doubt that even this SCOTUS mix would support Trump to this extreme. Trump is already toasted but the mayhem he can cause is yet to be determined.

I don't think Trump will resort to a coup; the reports suggest that even he is privately admitting he'll shift focus to 2024. The guy has a long, long history of talking a big game but ultimately falling short when he's asked to back up his boasts (see the timidity of his lawyers lately). He won't publicly concede and will claim the vote was rigged to his last day, but he'll ultimately go.
