It also fuels those that feel like their vote won't matter, so they don't vote. If it was majority win with no EC, people would be more inclined to vote because their vote may actually matter. With the EC, in many states, your vote means nothing if you are not part of the majority of that state, even though you where part of the majority nation wide.
The electoral college is a horrible carry over from colonial days when the founding fathers wanted "democracy", but still wanted to control the results.

I think splitting the electoral votes among the legislative districts is a good option to explore. Although, I think it will find a lot of resistance.
And not disagreeing with you here per se, but it isn't Multnomah county that controls Oregon politics, it's Washington county. They have been the deciding county in every statewide election for at least the last 40 years.

my only concern on the surface and I could be wrong.
While this setup certainly sounds more like the popular vote, I would be concerned if we consistently don’t have any candidate make 270 as in there are 2 or 3 lesser candidates running and they siphon off just enough to to make 270 impossible.
I wouldn’t be against the horse trading that could happen when the EC meets but it appears most states don’t allow their EC reps to vote otherwise.

NV is insanely close. Will either count military later? I think Penn said they'll take military through 11/10.
The remaining votes left to count are mostly in Clark and Washoe counties.

Interesting. I hadnt heard that yet (Im in PHX). Most places have already called it for Biden.

To be clear here the error was not on the part of Arizona, but on the part of one of the two data aggregators that the news sites are using. One is Edison Research the other name I saw once but am not seeing now (Chicago was in the name IIRC). Source with more info:

The problem with that is that legislative districts can be gerrymandered.

The problem with that is that legislative districts can be gerrymandered.

Rather than assigning them to specific districts, can't they just be awarded proportionally, relative to the split of the total vote? What's the benefit in associating specific EC voters with specific districts?

So if 1/3 of the total vote goes to candidate A and 2/3 to candidate B, you give 1/3 of the state's EC places to A and 2/3 of them to B.
The problem might be making the fractions match, but a rough parity ought to be possible, surely?

It's frustrating that the Latino vote helped Trump to win Florida. I guess I have to accept there's a bigger diversity in Latino voters than I thought.

Looks like ABC has changed their projections putting AZ back to contested.

Just saw the alert. Trump is suing to stop counting votes in Michigan

lol, Biden is up there. I really enjoy that nobody really gives a shit about all the noise he is making about stopping the count. I even read a gun forum that leans hard right and they’re all depressed that Trump will likely lose lol. Crying about the election being “stolen” etc but they know that’s a fake excuse and will crawl back to their idiot holes if he does lose.

A major amount of mail-in ballots were not delivered by the USPS in Miami-Dade county. This skewed those result and made the win look more lopsided.
