I am having lots of freezes. The cursor cannot click on anything then a beep then I have to reboot. I went back to the default settings without overclocking.

I get much less frequent freezes but still do.

I replaced the memory sticks from Kingston ( one gig matched pair) to 2 gig each matched pair each, the old ones were faulting, and were RMAed but the freezes have bot stopped. anyone have this freezing, and solved it? Some times when trying to play a video with Nero and other times, when I load SiSoftSandra to check my parts in the computer at times as I type her it freezes only temporarily too. Playing that video with Power DVD does not freeze it.

One thing that happens is that dust gathers on the cooling CPU fan and periodically needs to be cleaned off.
Also what voltage setting is correct for these memory sticks as default

What link did you use to download the manual? I went to their site, went through the selection pages for the model motherboard, and when I finally click on the english version I end up at their error page. The offered links ended up driving into a brick wall as well.

Thanks for your time!

Tungfree, Only time I have personally experienced similar issues was when I had a pair of DDR sticks go bad. My cure for this issues was RMA the memory, getting the new pair, and then finally re-installing Windows. I am not exactly how this effected my XP pro install, but somehow it did, and would not work right until after another installation. Perhaps this may help ? Mostly, this is a last ditch resort, unless you're like me an almost enjoy re-installing Windows. Perhaps system restore could work here too, but if you were getting CRC errors there is a chance the related files are fubar too.

Another possibility is that you've been infected with some form of a virus. While computing, hit CRTL+ALT+DEL to bring up the task manager and see which process(from the processes tab) is consuming the all the CPU.

There are also more possibilities, ones that we do not want to hear such as failing power supplies, or motherboards, to MAYBE you have the RAM timings set wrong in the BIOS ? The IP35-E's are also known for vdroop, so maybe compensating slightly may help ? Bumping the voltage up slightly is one of the first things I did when receiving this board.

Sorry I could not help more, but you're entering the realm of trial and error troubleshooting :/

I've had this board for the better part of this year, picked it up when Newegg had them for $60 or so after MiR. Been running an e8400 @ 3.6GHz on it until last night, popped in a q9300, OC'd to 3.3GHz, and stressed it overnight, seems awesome.

A few months ago, my Crucial Ballistix on my IP35-E tanked. Since then, I've been using some old HP -533 memory. Since DDR2-800 is so freakin cheap right now, I think I'll get 4GB of new memory. Anyone have any recommendations for some STABLE memory for this board? I never bothered updating the BIOS after I got the board in the summer of 2007.

I'll probably be looking at upgrading my processor too...looking at a quad core...any recommendations there?

Thanks!

Checksum Error!!
Hi there!, I've already read the older posts about this topic & I followed all steps but when it start reading the floppy it says that it's a no system valid (something like that) so, I created again my bootable disk and checked that it works, and it did, so when I put it on my abit mobo. (the floppy drive with the bootable disk) it started reading again and the led stayed on but the floppy wasn't working and that's all, I tried restarting but I got the same, led on & floppy stopped... so I checked it again & it worked fine on the functional pc.

The floppy drive was the same & I tried with different cables but nothing happends... ='(

I'll appreciate your help!

If you are going Quad core I would suggest updating the BIOS or it will not work with any 45nm chips. Also I am using OCZ DDR2800. You just need to make sure you set the correct memory voltage and you shouldn't have stability problems.

I bought 2x2GB DDR2 6400 sticks from ADATA 1.8v modules and the system runs extremely stable. I was a bit leery at first since I rarely stray outside of Crucial for name brand, but at the time the sticks were so cheap I could not pass them up. I have not regretted my purchase one bit one year later.

As an aside, a month previously I had bought a pair of sticks from Corsair, and they showed up DoA . . . so sometimes name brand means nothing.

[EDIT]

Just in case I was not clear, what I mean by extremely stable, the system never, ever crashes. I would not attempt to overclock with these sticks however.

Are certain steppings of the E8500 C2D incompatible with the IP35-E? I'm trying to upgrade my CPU from an E6600 to the E8500 I got as part of a bundle from Fry's Electronics (retail box).

The CPU ALWAYS registers 98 degrees in BIOS, which will force an auto-shutdown unless I turn off thermal protection. If I turn it off, various system monitoring utilities still show it as 98 degrees. This is my 3rd E8500, all have registered at 98 degrees; the first two were returns sold as new, so I figured they were problematic chips. This one is new. Speedfan (v4.33), for example, shows CPU temp as 98 degrees when nothing else is running over 40 degrees. Also, it doesn't show individual core temps like it does with my E6600 - which would often run under 20 degrees at idle with my CoolerMaster HyperTX2 CPU cooler. It's as if it doesn't recognize the CPU.

Any suggestions? My E8500 is an SLB9K stepping. Abit shows support for the E8500 on the IP35-E, but I wonder if there's an issue with the newer stepping. Or, is there perhaps a M/B problem that just doesn't show with the E6600? I've upgrade to v18 of the BIOS if that matters (would expect to need that version, tho).

I'm going to be installing a Q9550 into my other IP35-E when it gets fixed; I'd hate to go through the same stuff.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Considering this one...but I don't find it listed on Neweggs memory configurator. Why wouldn't it work...maybe just not tested?

Did you get the E8500 running okay ...I have the same board and ran across a good buy on e8500

Nope, didn't get the E8500 running.

Since the Q9550 was going to go into the other IP35-E & that's being RMAed, I decided to install it in this machine. Installed fine, up & running no problem. Already overclocked it from 2.8 GHz to 3.6 GHz & it's barely breaking a sweat - idles at 25 degrees, haven't seen it go over 45 (barely to 40). My guess is it will hit close to 4 GHz (or above) on air with some tweaking, in the meantime it's doing just fine. I'm running a CoolerMaster Hyper TX2 CPU cooler in an Antec 900 case, in case it matters - good airflow & CPU cooler.

So, I guess that's a long way of saying I know the motherboard & rest of the system are fine. Given this E8500 is new & has the same symptoms as the earlier two 'open box' sold as new, sure seems like the IP35-E doesn't like the E8500 (at least some of them). My BIOS is upgraded to v18, which I believe is still the latest version.

Maybe I'll have to put one of my E7200 CPUs in the other IP35-E once it's fixed & install the E8500 in one of my crappy ECS boards from Fry's. (That would be such a waste, tho.) Or find a deal on another good 775 socket overclocking board, given that Abit's going AWOL.

Anyone install Windows 7 on one of these mobo's yet? I can't get the Marvell ethernet driver to work or find one anywhere.

Thanks, I'll give that a whirl.
It shows up in the device manager, but just as an ethernet device, not specifically a Marvell lan device.

Those Marvel drivers are a PITA! I figured I'd update mine so it'd work with the diagnostics and cable tester app. Started the new driver installer and it claimed I needed to manually uninstall the old one first (I know, I know, it's good practice to do that anyway but 9 times out of 10 I get away with skipping that step), so I went into add/remove programs and tried to remove it at which point it locked the system up... system never crashes, don't know what's up with that. So I booted to safe mode and the Marvel app wouldn't run because essential windows installer files weren't loaded. So I booted to normal mode and the add/remove programs must've wiped out the driver as there was no lan connection even though I still had to run the uninstaller from add/remove prog., so I checked the temp directory, found the extracted new driver, and finally got it installed. I liked the good ole days when you just browsed to a 100K file in a folder when the PNP wizard asked what to do.

No go, looks like I may need to revert to 32 bit instead of 64... that may take more than a reboot

I got the E8500 but not in the mood to install it today..After doing some checking what I have now (E6750) does about as good. For $100.00 I couldn't turn it down and being one week old. I may still give it a shot later on.
Thanks for the information.

I went with the ones on the mobo cd, they didn't work. I downloaded the ones from Marvell, no go with those either. I deleted those and restarted and re-installed the Marvell ones, then it worked. Go figure.
