It's possible that the ATi gfx card (or ppossibly something else that you have installed?) has some multimedia device on it as well.

They cannot be installed either they all say they do not have the driver when I try to execute the instalation file as it begins to load, goes a ways then a requester says that it has no driver. You say it has the codec? but my computer says it is missing the media driver.

I'm surprised to see people still post about the Abit IP35-E - I bought it when it was all the hype - never overclocked - still going strong.

I have one 500gb Hard drive and one 1.5TB one -- does anyone know how much the Abit IP35-E can handle - I was planning on adding two more 1.5TB

thanks

Works fine with 1TB drive. There's nothing special about the audio driver. Zero fill the hard drive and clean install windows instead of messing around with that corrupt image file. Download the lastest audio driver (888) from the Realtek website. Use Nlite to slimpstream the Intel chipset, LAN, and audio drivers into windows, then install the OS.

Just what is nlite you mean the codec pack? I would need some steps shown how to slipstream the Intel chpset, and I am not understanding what you mean by AN and audio drivers into windows. I once slipstreamed Service pack 2 into servicew pacj 1 XP but I followed step by step a tutorial online.

So a step by step breakdown would be lovely if anyone could post it.
I had backed up a zero filled fresh install with all the drivers and a few of the right hand programs that help me manage my OS. It was 1.3 gig which I recall had worked fine at the time of the backup. Restoring it seems to be a problem with missing files. I would be willing to redo this all but why is the slipstream necessary for a simple installation? I am not challenging y7ou just wonder why things go weird so early at the installation, when all other instalatlations worked fine.
My suspicion is that the video card may have some sound capability and so the system is calling for sound drivers twice,. once for the on-board and then for the video card one, which you can see in my rig list below. That is my guess but I am not the wizard here.

Nlite is probably no good for noob.

Zero fill the hard drive. Install windows. Vista should auto-load the audio drivers. As for XP, load the Intel chipset. Reboot. Load the sound from the Realtek website. Reboot. Load the LAN from the Marvell website. Reboot. Final step is to load the video driver.

Yeah, hard to believe this thread is still active. My son's IP35-E board is still going strong.

I agree with E4300. Nuke the XP installation (reformat or zero the drive) and start over.

If you want to use nlite to slipstream XP SP3 there's a guide on their site on how to. You will need to download and install MS .NET Framework 2.0 first.

If you do not want to use nlite then after installing Win XP (assuming32 bit version) this is the sequence I would use to install drivers. It would be much easier if you downloaded the drivers from another computer and burned them to a disk or copied them to a flash drive.
1. Install Win XP SP3
2. Install the latest Marvell Gigabit LAN driver
3. Install the latest Intel P35 express chipset driver
4. Install the latest ATI drivers for your video card. Install the package which includes the ATI WDM driver.
5. Install the latest HD Realtek audio drivers for Win XP
6. Go to Settings-Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager and check for any yellow exclamations.
7. Go to Windows Update and install the latest updates including IE7. Personally I do not like IE8, but your option to try.

when I go to 3. Install the latest Intel P35 express chip set driver link it offers multiple choices and says that it is for programmers and advanced users. I am not advanced in the OS though I am in some areas. And no link is provided there to get the Inf Auto install one so which do I choose?

When I go to 4. Install the latest ATI drivers for your video card. Install the package which includes the ATI WDM driver.
It goes to AMD not intel does it not matter which drivers you get I have a Q6600 Quad core board on Intel side.

In step 3 choose option 2 from the Intel download site, click on Download, then Accept on the next screen, then on the next screen next to Download click on INF Update Utility-Primarily for Intel 4, 3, 900 Series chipsets. If you are using IE, depending on your security settings, you may get a warning that IE has blocked this site from downloading. Click on this bar, then on Download File. Choose Run or Save to download the file infinst_autol.exe, 2.39MB.

Step 4 is the latest ATI Catalyst drivers package for your Radeon HD 2400 Pro video card. Choose Option 1, the Catalyst Software Suite, click on Download

Mechanic thnk you for a thorough presentation of many links and the help.
E4300 said that
" As for XP, load the Intel chipset. Reboot. Load the sound from the Realtek website. Reboot. Load the LAN from the Marvell website. Reboot. Final step is to load the video driver."

Your order is a bit different:
"1. Install Win XP SP3
2. Install the latest Marvell Gigabit LAN driver
3. Install the latest Intel P35 express chipset driver
4. Install the latest ATI drivers for your video card. Install the package which includes the ATI WDM driver.
5. Install the latest HD Realtek audio drivers for Win XP "

was that a mistake or which way is the correct order?

E4300 sound like the original creator of this original thread, if you asked me.

I recognize his signature of advice LOL so???? still am not certain.

on another front I wonder what CD to begin wit to build SP3 with I have the original non sp1 the gold version. I have the Sp1 version and I have sp2+ the + is that I slipstreamed many updates to bring it up to July 2005 so it is not a pure SP2

The advice given at the nlite site is to not use nlite on pre installed additions to sp2 I just noticed it today....
any one have any input on this? I will zerofil and I will fresh install just first I want sp3 in hand with some missing parts I do not need, I will prevent installing like explorer and wmp and any I recognize as not wanted..

I was assuming that you already had a copy of Win XP SP3 burned to a disk. It's a good idea if you do not want to use nlite, to burn a disk with SP3 and other important drivers/patches on it and have it ready to use in case your OS crashes.
If you do not have another computer to download SP3 and the other driver updates, then after you install Win XP use the disk that came with your MB to install the LAN, chipset, and audio drivers. You can always update these later from the links. Then download and install the latest ATI Catalyst software suite, and then SP3 and the latest Win XP updates.

If you want to slipstream SP3 into Win XP with nlite it's best to start with a virgin copy of Win XP with no service packs on it.

My IP35-E is still chuggng away mostly problem free. I get some video corruption after resuming from hibernation sometimes. Not sure if it's my 4850 acting up or the mobo doing some funky stuff with the PCIe slot. It's weird because the video is fine during post and "resuming windows" but that flicker between the welcome screen and the desktop can trigger the distortion. It's just some speckles here and there. My gut tells me its software and might be addressed with a driver update. Who knows. It's not enough of an issue to warrant poking around. I'm done with tweaking.

About a year ago (6 months into using my ip35-e) I thought my video card died (xfx 8400gs). Annoying but I sent it in and got a replacement. This replacement worked for the last 9 mos until I started having trouble again. One day, my computer went into sleep mode and when I woke it up, there was no video. I figured video card again. I opened up my case, did the usual testing, sent the requisite emails to XFX for another replacement.

A few weeks went by withmy case stayed open like that. I still hadn't shipped the 8400GS back but I really needed my computer so I thought let me try one of these HD4770's, if it's quiet enough, I'll use it in my new build. Before opening the new card, I decided to try the original set up one more time. Lo and behold, it worked. For one day. Computer went into sleep mode and now I am back to square one. No video signal and not even a post when I turn the computer on.

I still have 3mos left on my CPU/Mobo one-time replacement program through Fry's (anyone have experience with these?) so I need to figure all this out by Monday so I can have a working computer again!@#!@

According to Intel They recommend to install the chipset driver before any other driver. E4300 Recommended that too.

I understand that logic would say be able to get out on the Internet first, but Intel feels you need the chipset driver to get out on the internet.

Please read the below carefully it is a bit wordy but many more than I may want to do the same thing I do!!!

I love the nlite idea to slipstreame the drivers.

You recommended to start with XP gold and slipstreamSP3 and if I wanted a full SP3 to then slipstream the drivers.
But I want some of SP3 and not all.
So I noticed that at Ryan's Integrator site
RyanVM Windows XP Post-SP3 Update Pack
and that if I want to use Ryan's RVMintegrator I have to begin with XPSP2. What is confusing to me is that Ryan says that if any integration was done with nlite then his integrator should not be used on it.

Maybe I am misunderstanding "slipstreaming" with Integrating"

But my problem is I have no pure XPSP2, I have a pure Gold and a pure SP1 but my SP2 has already many upgrades slipstreamed into it.

So I need to somehow have sp2 pure to begin Ryan's method and that all seems to contradict my using his fantastic post sp3 patch to integrate it into SP3 so I end up with is an SP3 up to date, including my drivers but ommitting things like windows media player and internet explorer 7 and others I do not want in there.

Anyone use both nlite staring with XP gold and slipstream sp2 then use Ryan's integrator to go from there and get a good totally up to date and all drivers OS XP3?

Why I get restarts/reboots (black screen and power reset) when I run CPU intensive application like LinX or Prime95 100% all 4 cores,
when I set CPU vcore over 1.41V in bios, like 1.43V
All other settings are defaults, this happens when cpu is 2.13 GHz and 3.6 GHz too

components are:
X3210 (kentsfield G0, vid 1.2125V)
Abit IP35
A-DATA 4 GB
8800 GTS 512
OCZ GamerXstream 700W
5 harddrives
DVD
12 fans
Sound Blaster X-FI
Network card

This seriously limits my overclock, with 1.41V set in bios (1.32V at load) Prime95 and LinX fail at about 3640 MHz

what temps are your PWMs running at? They could well be overheating as they weren't really designed to handle a 3.6GHz quad.

Over 90 C

Should PWM temps be under 80 degrees on load?

I have made the bolt mod but now when vcore is set to 1.41V in bios PWM temps shoot up to 110 C even I have a small cooler there. I think I should take the motherboard out and check the connection between the heatsink and the mosfet, right?

I took motherboard out, putting it back was really labourous as I have so much inside my case. But I managed to do it without breaking anything, which is good! I thought that NB is heating PWM too much if they are connected with heatpipe, so I cut it away. It didn't have any liquid inside, instead somekind of copper powder

Now that I didn't have that heatpipe twisting things around, I could tighten the PWM heatsink really good. Put some MX-2 between mosfets and heatsink. Awful small heatsink it is.
pic of mb
NB sink is now getting a bit warm, as heat doesn't flow to PWM heatsink. But it doesn't matter, I am actively cooling them with 60 mm high speed fans, which are controlled by the MB. At load PWM fan spins 4000 rpm.

And it seems to be working! At full Prime95 load, when vcore is set to 1.43V at bios, PWM temp is around 70-71C!! And CPU is priming at this very moment at 3656 MHz. At load vcore droops to 1.336V.
I am intrigued to see what is next.

It didn't fix it. LinX causes instant reboot. Bios settings were vcore 1.43V , CPU VTT 1.23V , MCH 1.45V, ICH 1.5V, CPU GTL REF 63%, multiplier 8x, FSB 457 MHz
mem 5-5-4-15-60
I am not believing anymore that I could get more out of this chip. Though it runs 3800 MHz fine, when all cores are not stressed at the same time.

I think mine died... I have been getting errors that no keyboard is connected upon start up for a week or so... now it won't post... get one long beep, silence, and then another long beep. I have been too busy to do much with it but going to start trouble shooting it tonight.

Anyone had any recent warranty experience with ABIT? This does have a 3 year warranty if I remember correctly...

Probably not related, but I had cold boot issues with this MB, and never got around to doing an RMA on it then...

Have you tried to move the bios reset cap to the other 2 pins then take out the battery for 20 minutes press the restart button several times to drain any residue charges, replace the battery, move the bios reset cap back to the other 2 pins and restart the computer?

After waisting a whole lot of time and money, it looks like my Crucial Ballistix died... from what I can figure 3 of 4 sticks....
