What kind of setting do higher FSBs need? I keep hitting a wall at 452 FSB , and I think I have tried maxing the voltages for everything. I hate my Q6600.

I am having trouble in booting with a thumb drive with "Dban" program that can do low level formatting.

Anyone succeed? haw?
I have set my disk priority to USB and my first boot to The bittom of the three USB options and it is being bypassed and boots from the hard drive.

middle 400s is pretty much all that you'll get on a P35/Q6600.
But that potentially gives you ~4GHz & that's more than the PWM section was designed for.

I am switching between My Raptor Hard drive and a 40 gig 7800 RPM hard drive. I have been wanting to do a fresh install on my Raptor. The 40 gigster is for testing. once I can get it to run stably I will do the same on the raptor. But read below my lack of success.

I am having lots of Freezing requires reboot, with video playing using VLC and Jet audio.
In the past my ram tested bad so I replaced it with kingston 2x2gig. One of my hard drives the Samsung 501Gig is now dead (Possibly from so many freezes and reboots, and I bought it just a year ago.)

I have tried a fresh install on 3 different 40 gig sata hard drives as a test and I get worse freezes with videos. I tried using another video card from MSI with 128 meg of on board memory and there is no change in freezes. I have stopped overclocking the system in the last 6 months running it at 2.4 it lessened the freezes on the Raptor, a little bit but in fresh installs it makes no difference. I have tried in the fresh install using only Power DVD 6 it works OK playing DVDs but clips like .rm or.mpg or .avi freezes it with other players. ( While Power DVD 9 is working ok on my Raptor I cannot get it to work on my 40 gig fresh install only power dvd 6 will work)

Using VLC for the clips it beeps once and freezes I tried with an installation JetAudio, it too Beeps and freezes.

Now that leaves the CPU or the motherboard as the possible suspects for the crashes. Anyone have an idea how to test which it is without putting in another board or another CPU?

I apologize for asking this but I've read through alot of the original ip35-e thread and some of this as well as searched but haven't been able to figure the problem out.

I installed a IP-35 board in my system and plugged in my IDE dvd-rw drive without a second thought. When I went to change the boot options to boot to IDE cd-rom there was no such option, only sata-optical, usb optical, etc. Made sure the ide controller was enabled but still no recognition of the ide cd rom in the bios. I proceeded to borrow a sata dvd drive and used this to install Windows no problem. I figured once I installed the motherboard drivers the ide cd rom would be recognized. However, no luck. No sign of any ide cd-rom drive anywhere in the system.

Its set to master and the controller is enabled in the bios. Not sure what bios version yet. Haven't got that far. Any thoughts on how to make it work? I know this problem has been discussed but the threads for this board are so long I just can't read through all of it right now and searching the thread hasn't helped me find the info I need.

Thanks in advance.

Make sure the optical drive is properly jumpered...master or slave. Clear CMOS. Go into the BIOS and scroll down near the bottom of the option screen. You should see the name of the optical drive.

which of these Intel-Dual-Core-Processor will work with this board? I checked at the abit site and Core 2 Duo E8600(E0) and the Core 2 Duo E8500(E0) do not show a bios number they show a dash, but the Core 2 Duo E8500(C0) shows the #15 bios.

So if I bought the Core 2 Duo E8500(E0) would it work with this board? has anyone tried it in this motherboard?

I posted this in another thread, but it got rightfully locked so I'll ask here. I got this excellent budget board, ordered it on 3/31/08. However when I went to print the rebate form, it was "updated" to say I needed to purchase the board between 4/1/08 and 4/15/08. I am sure when I ordered it that it came with a rebate, in fact it has been on sale at newegg with a rebate for weeks.
My question is, does anyone have a copy of the rebate form for last month so I can claim my rebate? Hopefully with the popularity of the board someone may have saved it...

nOOky's system is as follows:
System 1: Intel E8500 @ 4.5, Gigabyte -UD3P, 2 x 2 G-Skill 1066, 2 WD 640 Blacks, ATI 4870 1 gig, Arctic Cooling, Vista Ultimate 64, and other stuff.
System 2: Intel E2160 @ 3.2, Abit IP35-E, G-Skill 2 x 2 gig, 74 gig Raptor (Win XP), 320 gig Seagate (Vista Ultimate 64), 8800GTS 512mb, Arctic Cooling, some other stuff.
System 3: Asus laptop, G50Vt-X5

I am assuming it is on the IP35-E board and is working OK he also overclocked it from 3.19 to 4.5 it seems. But because I am not sure which ilk of the E8500 CPU he has The 1"EO" or the 2"CO" New Egg and AMazon sell the E8500 but do not state which of the 2 they are.

Can someone please clear that up and what it was listed as by the vendor?

I made a mistake
OK I looked up "Gigabyte -UD3P" in nOOky's first list and see it is a Motherboard so He does not have that CPU on our board, our board is the 2nd System and he does not have the E8500 on our board.

So I searched more and see that "Spammeh" above does use our board and the "CO" version of E8400
So that one is safe to buy but do Amezon and New Egg know which one they have I did not see it stated.

hey TungFree, why the move to dual from the q6600? is this because of the PWM temps? I'm actually considering going back to quad but probably with a different mobo this time. I gained a lot of performance for TF2 when it didn't have multicore support but since it's fixed I think I'd rather have a quad heh.

Spammeh, to answer you why,

I am having freezes every time I use video players and sometimes just using varied programs.
I had done several hard drives with fresh installs and it continues, I have checked with my memtest my 4 gigs or Ram and they tested fine this morning, I have substituted another video card and it did not stop the freezing up. I stopped overclocking and am running it at 2.4 So it came down to either the board or the CPU. I just ordered the E8500 from Amezon and hope that does it. I had asked for ways to test the CPU or the motherboard and no one came up with a way.
Now in a few days I will have the CPU and if it acts up I will get 2 boards and build 2 computers over again. So I may be in the market for a Motherboard advice, if the CPU fails to correct the freezes.

18 BETA BIOS will work with E8x00 and C0, E0 steppings. R0 stepping found on E5x00 and 7x00 is also supported with 18 BETA.

are these symptoms happening when OCed and at stock speeds? what's the vcore that you've set at stock speed?

I don't think there's anyway to tell which stepping you'll get from a store like amazon.

PS. by the way my e8500 is no longer linpack stable at 4ghz. Haven't spent much time testing but seems good so far on 3.9ghz on same vcore (1.36 bios). Is this degradation? or the so-called 45nm settled in process? Who knows. It's been at 4ghz for 6 months so.

At stock speed and at overclock both. I set it to default best setup. Sad to hear the degradation set in after 6 months. It runs cool I understood.

yeah big difference especially with PWM temps. Hit's about 60c @ 4ghz unlike the quad which I managed to hit 100c with.

I never hit those kinds of temps with the quad it stayed under 60C 100c is boilint temperature way way too hot. then with the ZEROtherm BTF90 Copper CPU Cooler i shuld keep it at low 40ies or less

C0 stepping = SLAxx
E0 stepping = SLBxx

Expect to see a small (~50MHz) drop in overclock after about 300 hours of use. This is due to increased contact resistance at the CPU/pin interface. Absolutely normal. Reseating the CPU should restore the overclock speed for a short time. People associate this to the initial break-in period.

A rise in ambient temp during the summer can also negatively impact system stability under Linpack.

1.36 BIOS is a safe voltage for that chip. This should not result in chip degradation in 6 months. Actual CPU load is closer to 1.32 with that board.

ah break-in sounds more like it. I don't know what this means but raising vcore to 1.38 makes me bsod instantly booting into windows which I don't quite understand yet? what's this symptom mean? Shouldn't I be able to raise vcore one notch and not have a negative effect like that?

I guess I'll try to squeeze it to 3.95ghz or something heh.

How about the "new" E6300?

E6300 is E5x00 R0 stepping with higher FSB potential and VT. 3.5-3.6GHz nominal overclock with 4.0GHz potential. I don't think there will be any boot problem with 45nm E6300 and IP35.

The R0 E7x00 should overclock a little higher. MC had them on sale last month for $80. My sample is stable at 4.04GHz/1.26V CPUz and 4.3GHz/1.36V CPUz.
