By the way, I'm with Tweakin: on BIOS 16, the system only seems to double-POST after I change something fundamental, viz voltage and bus. Haven't experienced the system hanging after exiting BIOS for a while now, but I've been plugged into the AC mains continuously for a couple days.

Submitted my rebate in Mid January - Received check in the beginning of April. So summer sounds about right if you just submitted your rebate.

ah heck, my system just failed to boot Windows again owing to the 'abit-io.sys' issue. This time it was after I'd installed the latest Intel P35 chipset driver to replace what I downloaded from Abit. Then I rebooted in order to run 'chkdsk /b', but I got the crash. When I tried 'Last Known Good Config', it just hung. Manually restarted, got the same error, but this time 'Last Known' let me start Windows.

What is 'abit-io.sys'? At this point, I'm pretty set on re-installing Windows, then going directly to the Intel P35 driver installation...

By the way, did get 'chkdsk' to scan eventually, and it found nothing. Now running SeaTools disk scan.

Here is the scoop: Path found: C:\ WINDOWS\ system32\ drivers\ abit-io.sys
Description: abit-io.sys
Info and security rating about abit-io . sys process

Filetype : driver
A driver is used by windows to control your hardware. Each hardware component in your computer must have a driver, otherwise it cannot be used by windows
Check and Download the latest version of ABIT-IO.SYS driver

Installed drivers

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ ABIT-IO
ABIT-IO

Does this help? It was probably overwritten when you installed the P35 drivers.

This seemed peculiar to me too, but the 'key setting is in the Hard Disk Boot Priority section'. That is, the Flash drive won't be employed as an external USB device; rather, it will show up amongst your internally installed hard drives. You then need to bump it up in precedence before your internal SATA / IDE / SCSI drives. Then make sure that in the overall boot order, your system will boot from hard drive before other devices (optical, etc).
That was it! Thanks Winterpool!!!

But i'm getting 47-55 degrees on IDLE and my PWM is running at 41 degrees I know the stock heatsink is bad, so I removed the thermal compound that came pre-applied and put a line of AS5 across the IHS according to arctic silver's website instructions.

I'm using it right now to post this, but I'm not happy with my idle temps I even set my multiplier to 8x hoping that would lower the vcore more. In the bios, i can't get the vcore any lower than 1.25.

all temps and sensors via everest ultimate

can anyone suggest a good / affordable after market cooler that will fit on the IP35-e? I'm guessing Hyper TX2 would be a big step above this stock heatsink, and hopefully that will bring my idle temps to atleast low 40s / high 30s

What should I do about the PWM? Is 41 degrees acceptable? There's no way AS5 would work on the PWMs, so i just left the thermal pad on there. Hopefully my temps will come down a bit when all the TIMs cure

i guess I won't be doing any o/cing anytime soon :/

update: I ran Prime 95 torture test on each core, the temps spiked to 79 the PWM went up to 55.

I hope it's just this crappy stock fan

Your PWM is not out of line, your idle temp is. Remount the sink with some fresh paste and keep it thin.

My goodness, the Abit IP35-E appears to have concluded its valiant run at Newegg: the board is now a deactivated item. Will we never see it for sale again? And are P35 boards really going to be exhausted from retail channels that quickly? Better stock up on your favourite P35 boards and DDR2 memory whilst they're still plentiful and cheap.

Pah, now I regret not getting a second IP35-E, or even yesterday's $100 IP35 Pro. I wonder how much longer the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L will be readily available.

I went further, i got a Hyper TX2... but i should have given up on pushpin heatsinks after my experience with with the stock intel heatsink. i'm now idling at 38 according to everest and 32 according to core temp, pwm is now 38.

i can only conclude that the push pins on the stock heatsink were not making perfect contact.

also, it seems like the double post has stopped now after updating to v16 and a couple shut downs and boot ups later.

winterpool: how many systems do you need? the gigabyte alternative looks good too, that was my first initial choice until i read about the ip35-e

it's been deactivated before - people have been saying that's it's EOL since last Autumn ...
P45 has been delayed again & abit have just brought out a new version of the IP35 Pro (the Pro XE) so I think that P35s will be around for a while yet although prices will probably drop a bit lower when P45 turns up.

An update on the abit-io.sys driver that was getting corrupted. I'm fairly sure it was to do with the AbitEQ monitor (which I never did get to work, even with UAC entirely switched off). Because I'm anal (and I hadn't really installed any apps), I wiped my partition and re-installed Vista. This time I installed the P35 chipset drivers straightaway. Rebooted several times without issue as I updated, installed drivers, etc. Then I installed the AbitEQ, and... abit-io.sys became corrupted. And, yes, I reinstalled Vista a third time and refrained from AbitEQ. It just bothers me tremendously when a brand new OS installation fails to boot within a few hours!

In conclusion: don't instal AbitEQ, at least on Windows Vista Ultimate x64.

PS: gah, Vista has already used half of my 35 GB system/boot partition. And I've not installed any apps or 'data' files. Talk about bloat...

tried flashing to the v16 bios, and the board never made it. i've been stuck in an infinite poweroff/poweron cycle. tried to clear cmos and everything, but no luck. going to be RMAed

I have a feeling my motherboard was defective though, could never fully boot into an operating system the first time without a screen lockup

i have an ip35-pro though and love it!!!

Wow... 35gb??? With all the apps that insist on installing in c:\program files\, for my latest build I had to bump my C: drive to a 200gb (out of 750gb total).

memtest focuses on your memory, not your cpu.

For intense dual or quad core CPU testing, check out this thread (look for SP2004 Orthos Edition)

Question: Are you running Vista? This is a phenomenon that I've seen on the both the IP35-E based system in my signature as well as on my Compaq V6000t (core 2 7200) laptop. I started out right after vista install by loading the latest drivers from the Intel web site. On both the desktop system and the laptop, they made the system unstable. In both cases, when I went with the newest driver from the respective manufacturers (ABit and HP\Compaq respectively, the problems went away).

This is very different from my past experience where I would go directly to the component manufacturer (Intel, nVidia, etc) and get the drivers from them. I think this may be related to Vista some how because until recently the laptop was running XP Pro and with XP I always used the latest from Intel and ignored what HP\Compaq had posted because they were older.

On their web site they are saying NEW next to their IP35P which looks to be very very similar but made cheaper with smaller and fewer heat sinks. Feature list looks identical. Speculation: this may be intended to replace the IP35-E

35 GB just for Vista? I'm not sure what's going on there. I'm using vista enterprise 64 bit and I've also got visual studio, SQL Server client tools, MS OFfice 2003 full install, photoshop 7 and a variety of other tools and apps installed. My C partition is 50 gig and I still have 25 free even after installing all those apps.

IP35P has been out for over 2 months & is quite a different board design from the IP35-E, it looks to me as if it's aimed for general workstation use (read system integrators).
Whether or not branches take products does seem to be a local decision within abit.

I purchased a Ip35-E from a member here. Well I have been trying to get it to post. Actually I have gotten it to post 3 times. Here is what I have done so far deep cleaned the cmos. 1 stick of ram,VC and 1 hd that I have below in my sig. still no post. cleared cmos alot. changed ram slots from 1-4 tried both sticks of ram one at a time. Could it be the ram timings? it seems the bd. defaults at 1.8 volts for the ram could this be a prob.? PS: I have already pulled bd. out and put it on my workbench still no post. with PS, VC and 1 stick of ram. I know It is not the PS because it runs my other ECS MB. Thanks

I just got my IP35-Pro from MC for my birthday and it recognised my E8400 no problems.
Onboard audio is good .So far it's as good or better than the DFI Dark 965-S I was running.
Haven't really O/C'd yet but the E8400 would do 4.0 ghz on the DFI so I should be good to go according to alot of users.

Bobo, you'll probably have to be more specific (for instance, is everything else in your testing config from your signature rig?), but I'll start by asking about your RAM since you question its timings and voltage. I bought Corsair XMS2 PC2 6400 that is advertised as 4-4-4-12 at 2.1 V. When my system first POSTed, the memory defaulted to 5-5-5-18 at about 1.9 V. I then tightened the timings and upped the voltage to 2.1 V, and my system ran Memtest86+ successfully for 20 passes. Some memory might demand more voltage to boot at default timings, but I should think most memory manufacturers would be smart enough to program their SPDs to default at 'safe' values like the Corsair.

I know that some MSI P35 users had problems with some CoolerMaster PSUs, I wonder if it could be similar?
But yes, more specific info & description of what the mobo does/doesn't do may help people to help you.

wow you gotta love corsair's customer support to do this. kuddos to them. I won't let that be a factor in my purchasing decision then. Now, anyone know where i can buy a IP35-E in canada?! i can't seem to find it anywhere.

yellowbeard is a corsair rep. he hangs out over in the psu section. if you have any specific questions he has always been very helpful to me.

Can I use 4x1gb sticks of that corsair ram with the ip35-e at the 4-4-4-12 timings or should I just opt for 2x2gb sticks with the 5-5-5-18 timings?
