I was using my IP35-E with 2x 1GB OCZ Gold PC2-6400 before.
The OCZ modules I had were programmed properly, I think. One of the SPD value was DDR2-800 5-5-5-15 at 1.8V.
Although this had worked (BIOS and all), I kept getting errors (apps crashing, etc).
At first, I thought it was my CPU or my OC settings, but as soon as I set the RAM timings to manual, and set the voltage to 2.20V - all problems went away.
Of course, later on I upgraded to Ballistix DDR2-800, which to my surprise had DDR2-1000 settings burned in the SPD.
They're running at 500 FSB easily - way better compared to the previous OCZ (maxed at DDR2-900). For the same price, I wish I hadn't bought the OCZ.

The same pair of OCZ now reside in my other system (super cheap E4500 & ECS GF7050).
They seem to run fine there, but I set all the timings and voltage manually anyway to be safe.

just my 2c - try playing with manual settings since Auto just didn't seem to work for me.

I'm building my son a new computer ( that is if he graduates first grade) with one and everything works except for the USB ports. Back ones on mobo and one on front of case doesn't work and they're not shown in the device manager. Going to recheck the wires for the fronts but if those are wrong would it also knock out the ones on back thats built onto the mobo? thanks

NEVERMIND.... it was turned off in the bios..duh!!!!

Having some issues with my IP35-E, hope some of you out there can provide some insight into what may be happening.

Configuration:
IP35-E Motherboard with Dual Core E6600 CPU & CoolerMaster Hyper TX2 CPU Cooler
Antec Nine Hundred Case w/500 W Power Supply
4x1 GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 (PC-6400) RAM
Visiontek X1650 Pro 256MB Video card
2x400 GB Seagate 7200.10 SATA hard drives
1x200 GB Maxtor 7200 RPM IDE hard drive
1 NEC IDE DVD-RW
1 Sony SATA DVD-RW
Windows XP Home w/SP2 & all recent updates

I built the rig up with just one of the Seagate hard drives & CD-ROM drives (all 4 GB RAM) & everything was running smoothly. I had overclocked to a stable 3.15 GHz (9x350), was happy the system was set & then rolled back to default settings (2.4 GHZ) before adding my legacy hard drives.

Then, when I was ready to migrate my 'data' drives (other Seagate & Maxtor) from my existing system, Windows forced me to 're-register' my Windows XP Home because of 'significant hardware changes'. (The IDE DVD-RW is set as IDE Master, the Maxtor slave in case it matters.) I went through their song & dance. Next boot I get 'NTLDR not found'. I try to do manual fixes by replacing NTLDR & NTDETECT.COM to no avail. Eventually, I gave up & re-formatted the boot drive, re-installed the OS, going through the certification process again with Microsoft.

Finally, I get the system up & running. Only now, occasionally video drops out. I install a regular PCI video card as well as a safety valve. That helps, but the backup card occasionally loses video as well (yes, I tried switching cables too).

Next, all my USB devices fail. I power down, plug in a PS2 mouse, shift the USB cable on the motherboard from one connection to another. No difference. Go into device manager, found all USB devices were failing. Uninstalled every one, went through hardware wizard to re-install, now they all work fine. (thank goodness for keeping around an old PS2 mouse)

Everything seemed fine temporarily, then today I boot up the system once & it works fine. I re-install a new Hyper TX2 with Arctic Silver 5 to ensure a solid connection & effective cooling. Re-connect power, power up, everything's running but no video. X1650 (PCI-e) doesn't work, nor does failsafe PCI video card. What gives? Any ideas? Everything seems to be running, fans are working, system's making normal noises, I just can't get any video.

My gut feels like, at this point, there's something wrong with the motherboard. USB ports fail, at times a random hard drive isn't recognized (yes, I've checked all cabling) & now the PCI devices don't seem to be working.

P.S. Side note: is the CoolerMaster Hyper TX2 a royal pain to install for others as well? I can get it in place, but the slightest thing seems to loosen one of the clips & my CPU temps soar.

I have problems on my ip35 pro with ntldr when I set my raptor as the primary boot drive and my seagate 500gb as the 2nd boot drive. When I set the seagate as the primary and the raptor as the 2nd boot drive it boots up just fine, even though the os is on the raptor. I did put the sata cables in the wrong slots when I reinstalled the os after putting in the x3350, however, so that could have something to do with it...

unplug your pci video card and some/all of the legacy crap. very likely some of that stuff is reacting negatively to the mobo. you might need to reinstall the os, too.

Hey, noticed that 3 out of 8 reboots even though nothing has been changed in the bios during boot up it gives a cpu is inactive (or something like that) or has changed check setting. Any idea on that? I'm running the latest bios with some STT DDR2-800 and a E2180 cpu everything is at stock settings. thanks!

"CPU is unworkable or has been changed" is normal on 1st install of a CPU or on a CMOS clear.
Normally setting & saving optimised defaults initially will see it disappear.

Thanks I'll change settings to optimized and see what happens strange that this came up a few times after it had been rebooted prior without that message.

Well the power supply just went. It was a 58 day old Antec earthwatt. I can jump the PS out and it'll cycle the fans but just wont power up the mobo and the leds on board it isn't even on (vcc and 5vsb). Maybe the power supply was causing it?

so what's the trick to run UDMA Mode 7 (SATA II 300) with this mobo?
I've two Samsung F1 capable of Mode 7, but currently running at Mode 5 (UDMA-133 only).
Both HDD have proper mode selected (from ES Util).

OS is WinXP Pro SP2 32-bit
Drivers installed: Intel Chipset Driver 8.3.1.1013, JMicron IDE R1.17.33.

Thx

Quick question. I just installed SP3 for Xp on my system. Now I have an Unknown PCI devise. I've installed all the drives from Abit's site. That didn't change anything. I then got desperate and used the drivers on the included CD. Still have the unknown PCI devise. Anyone else run into this with SP3?

The update I did to Windows SP3 with an Abit IP35 Pro and two other Asus board based computers were successful.

If all your known PCI devices seem to be working correctly and you do not see any errors or missing drivers in Device manager, you have a mysterious problem.

Windows updates do not and cannot make changes to your BIOS settings, but this is where you might want to look if all else has failed. When dealing with a mystery you have to look at the unexplainable. For example, if you have a PCI sound card installed it would be a good idea to verify your BIOS setting does not have the on board audio controller enabled. This will produce the, ?Unknown PCI Device? message you see.

bryanW1995,

Your patience in getting a deal yielded much better results than my at the moment web search. Thanks for the pricing update.

Heidfirst,

As playing around with over clocking options is a little less bothersome than changing motherboards, some experimentation with the OCZ Platinum memory I have was done. So far what I have found is with two one GB sticks and an Intel Q6600 the following over clocking options work (Running Memtest and Prime95 for a minimum of four hours without errors). 3.2 GHz CPU with no voltage increase, 854 MHz memory, 2.1v DIMM and 5 5 5 15 memory timing. With these settings 4 5 5 15 memory timings would not work. Increasing the Dimm voltage to the maximum OCZ spec of 2.2v with the above settings allowed memory timings of 4 4 4 15 to work.

This is a little off topic, but what would be better, memory timings of 4 4 4 15 at a speed of 854 MHz or memory timings of 5 5 5 15 at 1068 MHz? As simple as this question might be, I do not have a clue as to what the answer might be. The reason a desk is used as my icon is because I know little and have much to learn.

Thank you,

Rich

it's perfectly normal for an abit to run a 2% out of th ebox overclock at optimised defaults.

They are probably as good as each other in the real world although it's possible that synthetic tests & some apps that thrive on bandwidth may show a minor difference.
Test the 2 setups with the apps that you mainly use & see what gives you the best performance.

Memory Boots Up With Incorrect Speed:

My memory is set at 800MHz, but every once in a while, the clock will be booted as 644MHz after a reboot even though the memory has been tested stable after 2 hrs of DOS and Windows memtest and over 24 hours of Prime95 blend and 12 hours of OCCT RAM. This is with the 2/29/08 BIOS although I doubt it's limited to a particular version. Once it boots properly in Windows, the memory is fine.

I'm using the cheap, but decent quality 667 HP Ram which had been making its rounds the past couple of months on the Hot Deals forums.

Sound Card BSOD - Razer Barracuda:

I was originally using an ECS 945GCT/1333 which was fine with Razer Barracuda. But now when I play VLC with default audio output option on the IP35-E, I constantly get a cmudaxp.sys BSOD. When I change the VLC audio output to Win32, there are no crashes.

The onboard audio doesn't have the same crash problem even with VLC default settings.

Coolermaster Hyper TX Heatsink - To kashk:

I have this heatsink, and it fits just fine on the IP35-E. The only caveat is I don't know if my model is Hyper TX 2 or just Hyper TX Universal. I remember I got it September 2007 when there was a $15 rebate on it, so if you can reference that, you'll know the exact model.

Just got around to building. Q6600 stock and 2 types of memory available to use. One is the promo 1GB HP PX976AT PC2-5300 ram listed above and the other is crucial ballistix pc2-6400. I currently have just 1 stick of the HP in right now while I get things running.

I have read through the manual, but was wondering what settings I change in the bios to run the HP ram at 800. It currently shows DRAM frequency of 340.1 in CPU-Z with FSB @ 4:5, ras to cas @ 5, cas latency @ 5 and ras precharge @ 5. The chips are micron D9HNL. So I am at the stock of 667. Thanks.

This is a PS to my previous post.

If the previous suggestion regarding your PCI driver problem does not help you might want to look at using the SIW (System Information for Windows) freeware program. It can be downloaded at the following link: http://www.gtopala.com/ .

SIW lists everything from CD keys, CPU and GPU temperatures, and just about every detail about your computer you would want to know. About the only thing lacking is information about memory and voltage settings. Because the amount of information SIW lists for PCI devices and drivers is so large, I would recommend using it only if the previous suggestions fail to work.

Thanks for the tip about the SIW program. I will have a look at it and let you know how it goes. Everything seems to be functioning ok on my system. The only PCI devise I have installed is my video card, which is correctly listed in the devise manager.

DiamondDave - I had a similar experience with video cards. After much trial & error, I found out that my 8800GS card was simply too much for the power supply on this board. I did not have the same problem with the card on another board. I would get no video, some video, video that would come and go....then I would get two boots, three boots, boots forever. I was ready to RMA the board (in fact, requested RMA).

I eventually hooked up two power supplies at the same time & lo and behold - the board would now boot with video most of the time. A new 750w power supply (I really wanted a PC Power & Cooling PS for a long time - this was just a good excuse) cured the problem completely. Seems to be a regulation problem because my 550w Neo should have been plenty of wattage for the combo.

Just my experience.

you should be able to, are they jumpered master & slave properly?

the board's PWM is more than fine for an 8800GS.
It's something else to do with the Neo550 e.g. requiring a load on the 5V rail or something else.

I've got a question about the PWMs on the IP35-e. I'm wondering if anyone here gets a rattling / buzzing sound coming from their PWMs during high loads.

I replaced the plastic spring pins with small screws to hold it down, i might put the plastic pins back in and see how that goes. My PWM temps are 49 right now and they rarely go over 60 at load on a slight overclock to 3.0 ghz on q6600

edit: took out the screws and washers and put the plastic spring pins back in, no more rattling noise from the PWMs but my idle PWM temps went from 47-49 to 52-53, ah well, atleast it's quiet. i think the screws put just a little too much pressure, even when i loosened them
