Don't think so. The way that Oblivion worked if I remember correctly is EVERYTHING is essentially hand placed in the construction kit editor.

This is definitely not the case in Skyrim. I've had several instances where I would die, load the game, re-enter the dungeon, and notice that some of the items laying around have changes (common soul gem > petty soul gem, etc.)

Same with pickpocketing.

that seems to be the case since one of the perk was to find better items in chests.

are horses all these usless... -_-;
not even an option to be able to carry stuff on it and sooo slow.

we need a mod (not a DLC .. again?) to be able to add storage space to horses and to be able to shoot arrows on horses (perhaps a perk).

Oblivion was exactly the opposite. Almost all loot was randomized and scaled to character level. It's similar in Skyrim, but probably overall more balanced and better done.

Yup, the only goodies that scaled with level were special rewards like the Brotherhood outfit, which of course means if you get it too early you are shit out of luck. Weak stats on your magic items that can never be increased, unless you look up the item code for the good version and give it to yourself through the console. Brotherhood outfit had about 10 different levels depending on when you got it.

I hated that.

Any chance we can get a list of recommended MODs that are vetted and known to be either excellent or beneficial? Something that would include, for instance, that Large Address mod for higher than 2GB of RAM? Something like this seems pretty slam dunk to me as most folks populating this forum probably well exceed that and would benefit greatly.

Looking for something like a Anandtech Forum Recommended Skyrim Build list or something like that. Stickied to the first page of this thread and updated as required?

Daedric armor is better than Dragon if you're using heavy armor. If not then go for th dragon scale armor. I just sell all my dragon items now its pretty much worthless.

I wonder if the loot type is different depending on the difficulty level? from my memory TES games didn't scale loots with difficulty, correct?

Yes, it is scaling with you as far as I can tell. Curiously I seem to be getting more gold (haven't specd anything in there) and of course weapons are often better. However I know for certain it's random because I've been talking to a friend while we play quite often, and out of some incredibly random chance we ended up in the same dungeon fighting the same boss (didn't tell each other where we were ) at the same time. They were a bit higher level and got through it easier and quicker, so they got the loot at the end and apparently it was really nice while mine was mostly useless to me.

Loot that's laying out in the world is typically hand placed and will remain fixed. Loot that comes from a container, along with NPC inventories, may be fixed but usually will be created from leveled lists, so there is variation based on your level, and some randomization within various level ranges.

I started a new character about six hours ago or so, played until Lvl 11 and I had no crashes. Then I got in some cave, crashes galore, load back in, crash, restart system, go back in, crash again. I swear some places just ask for them. I could play hours outdoor, then oh, I enter some basement somewhere and back to the desktop in no time. It pisses me off. I never completed Oblivion for that reason (too many CTDs), and I didn't bother finishing Fallout 3 because of that too (saw the ending on YouTube).

I think I'll take a break from Skyrim, a few days will do me good. I'll go back on my Witcher game in progress.

This is the crap that drives me crazy w/ PC gaming. I just want it to work - and as my team is remarkably limited being married and a father of 2, I just don't have time to waste - my gaming hours have to count.

I want to buy this for the PC - I really do. I'm just chicken shit.

I know there is a specific cave that will pretty much always result in a ctd. bonechill iirc the way around that is on the launcher turn on window mode and you can get through it.

As for the rest of the ctd. I have had random ones very occasionally too, but they are few and far between I dont really notice. I pretty much played all weekend with one

Same thing happened to me, was it in <something> Pass where there was a lot of snow/wind in it?

Its funny because some people have issues, and others don't. All the people I've talked to only have crashes like Zenoth is talking about because their CPU or VidCards were overclocked just a tad too much.

I have some rediculous 30 hrs or so of gameplay now after this weekend, I had 1 singular crash because my VidCard was OC'd to high for this game, which happened within my first 10 hrs of play. I dialed it back a bit and have had zero issues.

Zenoth, you should check your OC settings if you have overclocked, what is perfectly fine on every other game causes issues on this one. Also make sure you have the latest drives, which should obviously go without saying.

I've heard of a few random crashes, but nothing like that

There is 2 things I wish we could do.

1) Craft Arrows... this is annoying, the arrows are fairly week untill you get to elven/dwarf/ebony but there is not alot of those. get tones of steel, iron, and ancient nord

2) smelt down items to there componets. Ie iron armor could be smelted down to iron ingots. Not really a big deal but would have been a nice touch

Interesting. I'm OC'd pretty aggressively - something to look into if I grab this on PC. I could dial mine back a hundred or two and not notice anything I'm sure.

I am using the large address space "mod." I have confirmed that both my GTX460s (1GB each in SLI) are maxed on memory when playing.

I haven't had any crashes. I actually got a refund for BF3 because it crashed nearly every time a map was loading. Sometimes it would crash 2-3 times before I could even join a game.

This game is amazing ^^

There's just so much you can do and so many outcomes from the game. You could easily play through it 3-4 times.

Could somebody help me out w\ one annoyance I have? When selecting magic... it automatically puts spells to L. It doesn't let you simply left click or right click to determine which hand you want the magic to be on.

Sometimes I want to use 2 different spells but for some reason Flames defaults to the right hand and it won't let me de-select it like I can with an equipped weapon. Is there any way to unequip magic?

It should work just fine, maybe you don't have the "dual weild" perks, I think you need one for each form of magic you would attempt to dual weild with
