May as well call this the Kim Davis law. Not only allow people to refuse LGBTQ people marriage but ANYONE they don't like. I guess Loving v Virginia didn't mean anything.
First they came for the Jews and the whites thought it won’t be us, then they came for the gays and the whites thought it won’t be us, then they came for the minorities and the whites thought it won’t be us, they then came for all non-Christian’s and the wrong type of Christian and MOST of the whites thought it won’t be us, then they came for poor and only 1% of the whites thought they won’t come for us. Then the rebellion came for the 1% and there was no one left except the broken whisper of a failed grand experiment … lost to alt-facts, avarice and fear of the other. Sad

This is really just a continuation of the project of the last 20 years where religious people get to choose what laws they feel like following.

We're a country of laws (unless you just decide your religion says "Nope" and then the laws don't apply).

I can't wait for some asshole to say their religion precludes paying taxes and that cause gets taken up by the right.

Well, Kim Davis wasn't officiating, she was just a clerk that refused to issue licenses.
It sounds like there's already not currently any mechanism to force someone in Tennessee to officiate a wedding they disagree with, and this is just codifying that in law. So you find someone else, or have someone close to you get ordained and have them officiate.
It does seem like the reprehensible shithole that is Mississippi does have a law that allows the clerk to not issue licenses though, and North Carolina as well.

I am genuinely unsure why under prevailing reasoning that wouldn’t work other than Calvinball. After all they said the state couldn’t stop large groups of people from gathering indoors and loudly singing during a deadly respiratory pandemic. If outright killing your fellow citizens is fine why pay taxes?

Personally if I was a decent human being that could marry people, I'd simply refuse to marry Republicans. I know they aren't a protected class, so it is different, but still, I think more people should simply start doing it.

Isn't that what tax exempt status of religious institutions is?

I believe the implication here is that as an adherent of said religion, they should be exempt from taxes, not the tax exempt status of churches themselves.

No it is my sincerely held belief that my religion prohibits me from paying taxes, therefore tax laws shouldn't apply to me personally since they are an attack on my religious beliefs.

Frankly I am shocked at the oppression I face as an antitaxifarian. To make me violate my beliefs in this manner is beyond the pale.

The thing is, God doesn't have to pay taxes. He doesn't give a shit if you have to.

This fucking guy
"That means if you’re a man on Friday night and all of the sudden on Saturday, you feel like a woman and you want to go in the women’s bathroom in the mall, you will be arrested — or whatever we got to do to you.”
This isn't really a thing...
“We’re not tearing society down because of this,”
Gosh, look at all the bathroom crimes that have happened in NC since they repealed HB 2. Society in shambles. Next thing you know there will be unisex bathrooms in every home in America!

WV also passed along a bill to allow teachers to carry guns in school.

I'm sure this will end well
