Have you ever had a conversation with someone who you describe as being confused about what sex they are? Do you have first hand experience dealing with some going through that? Any close friend or family members?

YES! And his (my nephew) perception of being confused WAS NOT because my nephew was actually confused, my nephew only said that "HE WASN'T SURE" to save HIS MOTHER from HER being confused. And, to delay any further addressing the issue.

What happened, his mother found some gay stuff on his computer and asked her son WHAT'S THIS??? ARE YOU GAY??? So he answered I'M NOT SURE. He claimed to NOT BE SURE after witnessing his mothers imminent anger, and because he had never talked with his mother about his sexuality. But regardless, my nephew knew he was gay all along and had known he was gay ever since he was a small kid.
Back in grade school, he was bullied to the extent that he wrote up a HIT LIST. This was right after the Columbine school shooting. A teacher found the HIT LIST and my nephew was put on temporary suspension. To the extent that the local new media got involved. He and his mother were on the local TV news, and it turned out to be a big deal however mostly because of the recent Columbine school shooting hysteria. We all know how exaggerated public hysteria works.

The school principle was on TV as well saying THE SCHOOL HAS A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY when it comes to threats. The mother, my niece, replied on air WELL THEN, THE SCHOOL SHOULD ALSO HAVE A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY WHEN IT COMES TO SCHOOL BULLYING. A perfect comeback from my niece if you ask me.
What my nephew planned to do to those on his HIT LIST, the classmates bullying him, was to buy silly string and silly-string them. He said this on air to the reporter.

This was when my nephew was maybe 8 or 9 years old.
I still have the video of the TV news report.
This should have been a clue to his mother that her son was maybe A LITTLE DIFFERENT from the other kids in school. Some parents just prefer to be in denial.
Flash forward some 8 years, and his mother had to ask ARE YOU GAY? And not surprisingly my nephew deflects from giving an answer with saying I'M NOT SURE, I DON'T KNOW.

Well, today my nephew is much older, married to his male partner, and they just moved to Florida. Gawd... Florida? I hope they know who and what that Florida governor is. A BIG TIME HOMOPHOBE!

I'm not keen on usage of the word "transgenderism".

It's too ambiguous of a term? (joke intended, but generally agree that I don't like adding "ism" to it). It makes it feel like a belief system instead of describing an actual biological effect.

Based on what I've been reading - some transgender individuals have biological difference, others have gender dysphoria of unknown causes. These could be psychological, unknown biological differences (maybe epigenetic). Research into causes, unsurprisingly, is an ongoing venture. Thanks to @cscpianoman for his her earlier links to articles on transgender science.

Ugh, pronouns!

To be clear, I do not believe trans people are confused and I took that verbiage directly from Green as he is who I was addressing . For the record, I don't think it is a fad either.

To be honest, it's a topic I have zero personal experience on this topic. In situations like this I try my best not to project my ignorance and instead be open to listening to those with more knowledge/experience so thanks for sharing. .

She/her. Kinda wish I can change my user name. 🫤

Edit: nevermind. Just found out I can! Once approved, of course. Can't imagine kitkat22 would be disapproved. Though may represent going "woke" 😁

Obviously it wouldn't have been quite as advanced, but the Hirschfeld Institute in Germany had been studying this stuff for a while before the Nazis burned it down 90 years ago. Who'da thunk we'd be dealing with actual Nazis trying to wipe us out again nearly a century later?

Also *her earlier links

This is a long ass reply I barely read through but I don't understand why a parent would be angry their kid is different? would they prefer the kid kill themselves due to not being accepted? I know this is a religion issue but I've heard of non religious families doing this too over the years. don't take this the wrong way and i'm sure your sister is a decent person today but she was a massive twat then.

yes I know I personally made a mistake discussing trans causes a week or two ago which got me some scorn. tell you the truth I've never come across a person who was, much less a person who was openly homosexual. you don't see it many industries due to the work involved. the glamboyant ones exist but it doesn't bother me. I can't say I've ever worked with an lgbt person in my life.

I have worked with one trans person that I am aware of but it was a big company and I did not know them well. I have not had an in depth conversation with a trans person regarding their personal experience, hence my ignorance.

I do have serval close friends and family members (including my father) who are/were gay or lesbian.

Thank you for sharing. I thought I had a coworker or two who were gay but you could imagine my surprise when I met their wives later at a company retreat or awards dinner. That was due to my own ignorance of course but either it's my age showing or my own ignorance that I don't believe there's many lgbt folks in certain industries due to how socially conservative they are. i may be overestimating my abilities to people read. I couldn't describe my postman to you with a gun to my head and I chat with the guy for a few minutes every day and have for several years now when I bought this house.

Boomers, gen x, millenials haven't been good to lgbt people imo. gen z which is 2005 and onward? they seem to be more respectful and understanding to people different from them. perhaps there is some glint of hope in this world before our species is wiped out.

One of the repeated arguments against transgender individuals is "every cell is screaming their birth gender/sex."

As per my usual, I get to thinking about this and gestational development and I'm going to use my mutation - FGFR1 as an example. FGF and it's receptor FGFR are a class of genes called fibroblast growth factor. There are 22 known FGF and about 6 FGFR. These genes are responsible and involved in pretty much every part of our body, including brain, lungs, heart, kidney, skeletal muscle and so on.

A lot of people assume once the cells start dividing, the genes are always on. That is no where near the truth. A development is a literal orchestration of dividing cells signaling to each other their location, division and scheduled cell death. For example, our hands start out more like "mittens." In the development of each finger there is a constricting of cells between the fingers which is coordinated with cell division and cell death. Hence why the top of your hand looks different than the palm.

FGF/FGFR coordinate the bodies development pattern and structure. So while the feet and hands are developing, the genitalia and brain are developing separately. Essentially, development has micro-environments of development. There are macro developments with the emergence of hormones and not just testosterone or estrogen. Thyroid hormone, parathyroid hormone, ADH and so on, start to globally connect the developing body. It is a truly fascinating process to learn about.

There are errors in our genetic coding. Everyone on this planet has variations on the gene coding. Mine happens to be a gene that can cause intersex conditions, anosomia, early cranial fusion, joint problems, triglyceride/phospholipid issues and also has associations with autism.

3 of my 4 kids have autism and we are getting the 4th tested. I very much have joint problems, particularly the hips and I have problems metabolizing cholesterol, triglycerides. I escaped the cranial fusion and anosomia part. (there are varying degrees of effect)

This graph is one that is about as simple as I could find that gives a really good representation of some of the genes involved. It's really not even SRY, which is pretty weak, for males - it's SOX9 which is on chromosome 17. Both males and females have SOX9. Basically, SRY is the starter motor for SOX9 and once started the other genes above give positive feedback to keep it going. Oh look, there's an FGF.

As we have studied all these genes, research papers and compilations have emerged. Genecard is just one of those sites: https://www.genecards.org/cgi-bin/carddisp.pl?gene=FGFR1

Yes, I am letting my mad scientist out....

Apologies.

FYI, she doesn't use the term.

She does question why demographics shifted between MTF and FTM so heavily in recent years and makes rather good arguments.

Watch the reaction of the woman behind him as he lowers the boom and says the quiet part out loud...

His message....Hey, we’re marginally better than ISIS and the Taliban, we just want to legally oppress gay people instead of tossing them off buildings. So quit calling us bigots!
Well, tbh, ISIS and Taliban do it “legally” according to their laws, etc. What I got from it was a “See, we’re not so bad…there are worse…in places few of us will ever visit (like 5,000 miles away) but that makes us A-OK with our bigotry.”

But only in certain restrooms apparently. Basically, going to have door guards harassing anyone going to the bathroom based on appearance.

I don’t understand this stuff. If your genitalia don’t match the picture on the door, but your clothing does (simplistically) - just use the stall. No scandal involved.

Who the fuck cares. Everyone needs to piss and shit. It baffles me why bathrooms are separated in the first place.

Allot of people - obviously. A certain proprietary between the sexes has its benefits since, in particular, women tend to prefer more privacy than men. And here there is a glaringly obvious solution - when in doubt, use a stall. Then the whole problem goes away.

Or, I suppose, we can all think in the crass terms that you do. Clearly that’s what our society really needs most

Because it's based on hate, not reason. This whole thing has already negatively impacted cis women more than anyone else, especially lesbians who don't look "traditionally feminine" (as they've already reported being harassed)
I suppose we can postulate that it's based on what the already rape-inclined in the GOP know they would do if granted access to a women's restroom, and I've seen that argument stated repeatedly online, that without these laws men will "guaranteed" (yes, I've seen this stated) put on a dress so they can go into a women's restroom and rape someone. It's obviously an absurd argument because there's been literally nothing stopping them from doing that for decades and decades.

I'm curious exactly what you base this on. At any rate, the "problem" didn't exist until they created it, so they could "solve" it. Do we really think trans women only just started using the women's restroom ten years ago, thus necessitating new laws to prevent such a travesty?
