*sigh*

Well, I guess I was a little to eager to report my results. It does appear to be the processor. I can run the memory asyncronously at 166 using "Top Performance". I can let Prime95 run using 133/166 no problem. It just keeps going, and going...

Unfortunately, when I set it to run 166/166, Prime95 will only run 5 minutes to 5 hours before reporting an error. The memory is running at the same speed and timings as before. To be certain, I lowered the memory timings and disabled the "Top Performance". Just the CPU is oc'd. I've tried bumping the voltage to 1.925 (+10%), but to no avail.

Time to get out the pencil, unlock, and set the multiplier to 10. I also need to get a better cooling solution. I'm currently using a Volcano 6cu+ with standard thermal paste. I'm confident the thermal paste is working just fine. The heatsink gets quite warm (almost to the point of being hot), which means the heat is being transferred away from the CPU effectively. Sadly, it seems like there's just too much heat for the Volcano to deal with.

I'm also wondering about the AGOIA offered at GameVE.com - any body have any experience with this?
Perhaps a more general question - is it a statistically good idea to buy an AGOIA chip, regardless of week (I assume the 0226 means year 2002, week 26 - someone correct me if this is false, please)? or are only certain AGOIA weeks good for o/c'ing, or only the AGOIA Y (what does the Y signify?)?

Most of us here got a AGOIA or AROIA which is 0213 I think. We can't determine whether would your's be as overclockable as ours.

Prime95 kicks me after 1 or 2 tests.

XP1600+ AGOIA 0222 4 at 166fsb, 1.85v core, 2.8v dimm, "fastest" timings
Epox 8k5a2
512mb Samsung 2700 from newegg
Thermalright sk7

No stability problems in games that I have seen or any apps... but I wanna pass Prime with flying colors if possible.

I've tried settings all up and down the charts, but nothing has given me anything that passes Prime.

Just in case my Samsung didn't like voltage too high, I took it down to defaults 1.75, 2.5, normal. Wouldnt boot without being at 1.8v. Still no stable Prime there either.

Temps are a tad high-- 50C-53C under load. Plan on cooling that down a lot with a higher cfm fan soon... but could that cause the instability I'm seeing in Prime?? I figured I would see instability elsewhere too if it was temp-related.

Would the turbo timings help? I dont wanna push my ram too hard, but I bought good ram for a reason. Anyone know the limits for true samsung 2700?

Is it a good idea to push voltage any higher than it is already (1.85v and 2.8v)?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A1400AMS3C (I believe) Im not positive because I am going from foggy memory and the tab on my hsf clip broke, so I am just avoiding taking it off at all. I would prolly need a couple sets of pliers and some careful hands. Anyhow, its a vanilla AYHJA 1.4 TBird (Non-XP) running at 1.74 (166x10.5).

deadseasquirrel,
i would back off the memory timings a little bit. the samsung memory has a couple versions, ctl/dtl. the dtl supposedly doesn't o/c as high. then some people say that their ram needs a little burn in period first. but i wouldn't go much higher than 1.85 and 2.8v. good luck.

AGOIA 0226- Unlocked successfully!! No overclock

I don't think my Crucial PC2100 will OC at all- 143FSB is it It's that or my SBLive!- maybe even my NIC. CPU was set to 9.5 and 150= 1425- no go. I ordered some XMS3200 Cas2.5 to eliminate the memory possibility. If it won't run at 150 FSB with the XMS, this KR7A is history- going to a 8K5A2+!! I'll update Friday after I get the RAM.

Have you tried running with higher multiplier just to see what is the highest speed it can reach??

I was just interested in obtaining a decent FSB. My KR7A has not allowed me to FSB OC well- maybe RAM, sound card, NIC problem?? Not sure. My goal was just to get it unlocked, drop it down a few multiplier notches, and get it back to rated speed using FSB setting. I've convinced myself that it is this board- I had the same problem with a AGOGA XP1700+ 0203 (a known 1900+ batch). It was not unlocked, but would only get to 143 FSB (same as this one). I ordered some XMS3200 and an EPOX 8K5A2+. If that doesn't get me a good OC, I guess I got 2 duds from "good" batches.

OK- OC'ing with just the multiplier settings I can get to 1.6 @ default voltage (12*133). All multipliers from 9- 12 worked on the way up!! I didn't try any higher cause I had proved my point (and the abit is missing 12.5 as an option)- something besides my CPU is holding me back here OC'ing using FSB. XMS3200 will be here tomorrow, and will elimanate RAM as the cause. The EpoX is looking better and better to me with the 1/5 divider. I will be able to keep all my busses in spec with it.

AGOGA XP1800+ 0203
Tried 1.8v @166 w/ Geil PC3200 Cas2 @2.75 no go
Not sure if I want to try higher.

I also tried my old Duron600
AKBA 0027
Worked at 1.55v(800Mhz) @133 w/ Samsung PC2700 Cas2.5 @2.65

Same MB
Abit AT7 (KT333)

I just got a AGOIA 1600+ but I haven't had a chance to overclock it yet. Somebody stated in another thread that there was no need to unlock an Athlon on a KT400 board. Can anybody verify this? If it's true I'm going to do some work on my multiplier before messing with RAM as that's only PC2100.

I just got a 1600+ AROIA '9' Week 25 from Newegg. I'm going to unlock it and overclock it as soon as I pick up a new motherboard. Anyone have any thoughts they'd like to share as to the overclockability of it?

you should only see a slight rise in Mhz if locked and raisng FSB, perhaps 200 or so unless you have the chip frozen or something
