New BK nuggets:

Fortunately, BK read our thread, realized the error of their ways, and promptly redesigned their horrible McDonalds-clone nuggets. They are still not as good as the original BK finger-style pepper nuggets, but they are a huge step up. Plus, the price is hard to beat: $1.49 for a 10-piece nugget. It's like five bucks for a 20-piece of craptastic nuggets at McD's. Also, the texture is entirely different, in a good way. I think my only real complaint, aside from not being as hard-crispy & as finger-long as their previous tenderloin-style nuggets, is that the crispy exterior isn't fused to the chicken. It slides right off if you pull at it. That's one of the things that made their old nuggets really good, is that they were like little pieces of fried chicken (i.e. the crispy exterior was integrated with the chicken) instead of just crispy breaded chicken (which is a coating, not a fusion). It's a small difference, but it changes the eating experience. #highclassfastfoodyo

Big texture difference, excellent improvement. I would recommend these for $1.49: (sweet & sour sauce FTW!)

10 of those? for $1.50!?

That is correct. If cheap deep-fried fast-food is your thing, then it is a great deal. 430 calories + 20g protein. Could do worse!

I recently read McDonald's is testing real, not frozen beef at some of its TX locations. I think the beef was local too. I wonder why the ability to handle fresh beef was lost like an ancient language?

Beef is beef, whether frozen or fresh. You should care more about whats actually in the product.

Probably has to do with large scale commercial handling of product, especially over long distances and long time frames.

Oh, these are the beans:

campero beans
Slow cooked blend of beans, chorizo, jalapeños, tomatos, onion & fresh cilantro--don't worry, they're not spicy.

I ate at a In & Out Burger for the first time last week while on a trip to Vegas. From all of the hype ive heard about In & Out I was really disappointed. the only plus side is it was a cheap meal.
I've seen it widely reported that the Vegas in-n-out is the worst one

well, that's why I've got a dozen bottles of different hot sauces back home. I can always fix these type of errors.

...but I still haven't been to Pollo Campero. I want to, but last week I chose Sardi's instead, which is pretty excellent. And dang--I didn't realize they had some other peruvian standards, like lomo saltado...must try that next time.

Oh man, just had a 10 pc legs/thighs box from Pollo Campero. Is there a better reheated fried chicken? I think not - this shit completely smashes Popeye's. Ate it with some farmer's market tortillas and Valentino hot sauce. My last "taco" was basically all chicken skin + a little bit of meat, chicken chicharron taco.

Expensive as shit though for fried chicken - the minimum a la carte order is 10pc leg/thigh for $20. You want less chicken, you gotta go with a combo.

dang, that is expensive, especially for the asian "rock-fried" style that it seems to be...but that's probably why it's also good reheated? Already stone textured.

I was hoping to get a half fried/half broiled sampler on my first run.

It is actually not a double fried Korean style chicken. It's something different entirely - but there is definitely a sweetness to the skin.

ah good to know. That's not my preferred style but I enjoy it nonetheless--it is fried chicken, after all.

Have you tried the Peruvian (or Guatemalan?) roasted chicken from there and does it pass the test?

No - but that's because I don't see any giant wood stacks back there, and there are plenty of "pollo a la brasa" w/ real wood pits in my area so there's not really a reason for me to try it @ pollo campero.

Pollo Campero is pretty pricey. But the location closest to me used to do 10 legs/thighs for $10 until it closed down. The fried legs and thighs are definitely the best items there.

As for BK 10 nuggets for $1.50 deal, I don't know if I can trust the source of the nuggets. There's no way the nuggets are not from China at that price, and I have no food from China policy. If I don't know it's from China, then it's ok. But at that price, the nuggets have to be from China.

Go to the In & Out next to the UNLV campus on Marylandparkway. . The In & Out on West Tropicana sucks and is busy because of the close proximity to the LV strip.

I went to In & Out Burger for my first time the other day. Had a double-double animal style (with the mustard fried onto the patties). Not a fan, it tasted funny to me (and I like mustard!). My wife, however, thought it was the best fast-food burger she's ever had & totally smashed Five Guys & BurgerFi.

You guys are making me want to buy a couple Big Macs right now, but I won't.

Just a guilty sin of mine from the past, thanks a lot

Big Macs are probably a part of my DNA from a long time ago

That's a good point. I'm surrounded by those pollo a al brasa places as well, and they all look dingy and shady in comparison, so probably much better.

$20 for 10 legs/thighs...is that it, w/ no sides on top of that? Sounds crappy if so, compared to the Sardi's meal we picked up last week: $24 for whole chicken + 3 large sides + 6 sauces + 4 cans diabeetus drank/2 liter diabeetus drank

I just wanted chicken only, and the lowest ticket to entry was 10 leg/thigh for $20. The smallest "combo" in comparison was 3 pieces for $9, or I believe a half chicken + 2 sides combo for $12.

I'm sure they have some equivalent of the whole chicken combo you specified for somewhere between $20-$30. I'll try to take a pic of the menu next time I'm there so you can get an idea of recent pricing.

cool. They don't have the prices and specific options online, and just getting there means I have to drive across 3 large avenues and pass a few security checkpoints and customs--assuming I remembered to bring my passport with me. I'd rather be properly committed before I make that trip again.

For the real slumming it low rent chicken.

We get it now and then, I like it better than Popeyes or KFC myself for fried. But picked up wings at the other little place we like a couple days ago

Ala carte chicken pricing just seems so wacky, a few weeks ago we were in a hurry and stopped by a Taco Bell/KFC, and I just wanted a single chicken breast. Four bucks. Never mind that another dollar would have gotten me the $5 box with the breast, mashed potatoes, biscuit, drink, and cookie... I didn't want that much food, and didn't want to throw it away either.
I got a burrito instead.

When I saw the thread title fast food I immediately thought of this as being something different.
