It's outstanding compared to its competition out here, which isn't much other than the big national chains. Maybe it's like when I hear white people talking about how good Chipotle is.Well, it sure is a big slice of pizza, and it's cheap... thus end the nice things I have to say about it.
Could just be my Costco, but I wouldn't call it outstanding compared to, well, anything at all. I'd call it downright bad, in fact. It's outstanding compared to its competition out here, which isn't much other than the big national chains. How have I not tried the Costco food court until now? Got a membership the other day and then see they have a hot dog and Pepsi for $1.50 and slices of pizza for $2. Got a pretty big meal for $3.50 considering the size of the dog and the slice and the quality of both are outstanding. This might have to be my go to fast food meal since the pizza is way better than any of the chains like Pizza Hut, Dominos, Papa Johns, or Little Caesars and there are no family pizza joints in my area (all the family restaurants out here are Mexican food) and the dogs are better -- and cheaper -- than the Nathans I like to make at home.
I don't wanna derail the thread since it's about fast food, but if you can cook and have any interest, outdoor pizza ovens are one of the greatest things ever. Not difficult to learn , and you'll destroy all but the best pizzerias.
That's a shame. I legit prefer Little Caesar's over Costco (LC is a little less consistent, but 90% of the time it exceeds Costco). Chipotle is decent, better than Taco Bell, but that's about as far as I'll take that I don't think I've been to one in 3+ years. It's outstanding compared to its competition out here, which isn't much other than the big national chains. Papa Murphy's sells an extremely similar-looking pizza cutter at their counter for $10I worked at a pizza restaurant in high school & college and really developed a love for making pizza! I've been through a number of cutting systems over the years...giant rocker knives, long Chef's knives, short rocker blades, rolling pizza wheels, you name it! My favorite is a simple 4" rolling cutter.

Having a solid workflow really helps...a good pizza oven or indoor baking steel, containers, cutters, etc. because then it's not such a chore to do!
Weird. Little Caesars is terrible here. Really bready and the sauce tastes like ketchup. Whereas Costco's pizza here demolishes all the chains like Dominos, Pizza Hut, Little Caesars, and Papa Johns. Like night and day better. Better chew on the crust, better tasting sauce, better tasting cheese. Only real downside is it's only either three cheese or pepperoni so can't get one with bacon or mushrooms on it.That's a shame. I think we're just going to be at odds the whole way down hereChipotle is decent, better than Taco Bell, but that's about as far as I'll take that I don't think I've been to one in 3+ years.
I've never eaten Chipotle without having them put the tomatillo sauce on it, so it's entirely possible that it's bland without that.I think we're just going to be at odds the whole way down here
Chipotle is the blandest crap I have ever had. Both when I lived in LA and in San Antonio. Taco Bell mostly grosses me out (how can you make flour tortillas with the texture and taste of bread?) but at least their meat tastes like it's seasoned. Chipotle tastes like something they'd feed me in the hospital after surgery.
I have heard you can make an awesome steak in them too, I think you start on the ooni and finish in the ovenI was just helping my friend get setup on his new Ooni 16", modern outdoor pizza ovens are AMAZING! A large pizza where I live now costs a whopping $24, so if you like pizza, it's totally worth investing in one! I have a couple tools I like as well:
Silicone containers:
These are great for proofing, freezing, and thawing doughballs, as well as acting as ingredient cubbies to decorate your pizza. This way, I can separate out the preparation of the dough from making the pizza, meaning that if I want pizza tomorrow, I can just grab some doughballs from the freezer & thaw them out, no work required! I like to make pizza at least once a week & this makes it a lot easier to do!
One trick I do if I'm having family or friends over is I have everyone decorate their own pizza on a parchment sheet on the kitchen counter or dinner table, then use the pizza peel to load the parchment-lined pizza into the oven, then yank the parchment out after a few minutes once the dough solidifies, before the paper starts to really burn. This way, no one makes a mess while prepping their personalized pizza & there's no loading skill required to get the pizza into the oven in the original shape!

Searing a steak at 900-950f, especially with the ovens big rolling flame is amazing. If you preheat a cast iron for 8 minutes then put your steak in it and sear it for 90 seconds a side. WOOOOOOOOI have heard you can make an awesome steak in them too, I think you start on the ooni and finish in the oven

Meh this is the fast food thread. Obviously there is better stuff even in San Antonio and I should have clarified I meant it's the best fast food pizza around here, eg cheap, fast, and convenient. We did used to have an amazing Neapolitan pizza joint ~5 miles from me but that one you paid for the quality. Among fast food pizza I think Costco demolishes the competition out here.I feel EXTREMELY sorry for you if Costco is the "best" pizza you have available. (I don't like eating cardboard much personally)
Fact is that even here in Connecticut I can find a half-decent burrito along with pretty much ANY other type of food ... we have a lot of Mexican folks living here too. (obviously not as good/fresh as out west for the most part!)
Also "being white" has ZERO to do with having BAD TASTE and shunning seasoning in your food... rather making that implication is referred to as being racist.
Yeah I like the dogs with lots of onion and mustard. San Antonio's not so great for international food, like if I want Hiroshima style okonomiyaki I have to make it myself. I think I have only even seen the easier Osaka style okonomiyaki in maybe one or two places in town but I much prefer Hiroshima style. And while most Mexican is outstanding here whether Tex Mex or interior Mex, still not a decent plate of mole poblano at any place I have tried here. Though I have never had a good plate of mole poblano anywhere in the US to be fair. While every plate of mole poblano I have ever had in Mexico was amazing, even in the red light districts lol.On the rare occasion I eat @ Costco I stick with the massive hot dogs! (nice and healthy!)
Truth is CT sucks in a "cost of living" sense but for great international food locally and with NYC 60 minutes away it's not easy to beat. Especially for primo Italian we're spoiled in New Haven. (much like Mexican in southern Tx/Az)

Damn, my Jack in the Box is extremely consistent: the meat is always dry as the Sahara, curly fries always mushy.eating the "new" Double Bacon Sourdough Jack from JiTB. It's pretty damn good, sourdough's toasted with a nice crunch, and patties are juicy. I'd give it a 9.1/10, but I'd hesitate to fully recommend it because I know if I go back to that same location tomorrow and order it again, it might have soft semi stale tasting sourdough with meat that's dry as hell and be a 5/10. If JiTB ever figured out how to maintain quality like In N Out they'll be my go to 9/10 times. And they can do it, but there's no consistancy. But I suppose with the huge crap shoot of never knowing, when you bet on 12 and actually hit Snake Eyes you're beyond happy. But the odds of me getting one cooked properly with a fresh tasting tomato and bread that's actually crunchy and toasted properly is about the same odds of hitting Snake Eyes in Vegas. IMHO at 2 AM when you're hungry and have been drinking, even a 5/10 one of these would still be pretty damn good.
This is basically their old Sourdough Jack but they added another patty and threw on a slice of American Cheese. And seeing how they'll add a patty and cheese for extra, it's a stretch to call this new.
Going to go eat one next week and I'm sure I'll be back tol post a poorer review lol.
I love Costco, but the pizza is terrible
