Well, it sure is a big slice of pizza, and it's cheap... thus end the nice things I have to say about it.

It's outstanding compared to its competition out here, which isn't much other than the big national chains. Maybe it's like when I hear white people talking about how good Chipotle is.

Could just be my Costco, but I wouldn't call it outstanding compared to, well, anything at all. I'd call it downright bad, in fact.

How have I not tried the Costco food court until now? Got a membership the other day and then see they have a hot dog and Pepsi for $1.50 and slices of pizza for $2. Got a pretty big meal for $3.50 considering the size of the dog and the slice and the quality of both are outstanding. This might have to be my go to fast food meal since the pizza is way better than any of the chains like Pizza Hut, Dominos, Papa Johns, or Little Caesars and there are no family pizza joints in my area (all the family restaurants out here are Mexican food) and the dogs are better -- and cheaper -- than the Nathans I like to make at home.

I don't wanna derail the thread since it's about fast food, but if you can cook and have any interest, outdoor pizza ovens are one of the greatest things ever. Not difficult to learn , and you'll destroy all but the best pizzerias. Here's one I made maybe a month ago.

Your post made me go pull 1 of the dough balls I made the other day out of the fridge and it's just about room temp now so I'ma go make a 1:30AM pizza.

And to the previous poster, I don't think Costco pizza's downright bad, I mean it's not amazing but for the price it's good, and it's consistent. And according to who I quoted there's no good pizza in his town. I've definitely had worse pizza. I prefer thinner NY style but will munch on a Costo slice every so often.

Sorry, I just partook in something that's legal in Cali but not everywhere so I'm kinda chatty. Thanks for the pizza idea I couldn't figure out what I was gonna eat.

I was just helping my friend get setup on his new Ooni 16", modern outdoor pizza ovens are AMAZING! A large pizza where I live now costs a whopping $24, so if you like pizza, it's totally worth investing in one! I have a couple tools I like as well:

Silicone containers:

These are great for proofing, freezing, and thawing doughballs, as well as acting as ingredient cubbies to decorate your pizza. This way, I can separate out the preparation of the dough from making the pizza, meaning that if I want pizza tomorrow, I can just grab some doughballs from the freezer & thaw them out, no work required! I like to make pizza at least once a week & this makes it a lot easier to do!

One trick I do if I'm having family or friends over is I have everyone decorate their own pizza on a parchment sheet on the kitchen counter or dinner table, then use the pizza peel to load the parchment-lined pizza into the oven, then yank the parchment out after a few minutes once the dough solidifies, before the paper starts to really burn. This way, no one makes a mess while prepping their personalized pizza & there's no loading skill required to get the pizza into the oven in the original shape!

4" Pizza Rolling Cutter:

I worked at a pizza restaurant in high school & college and really developed a love for making pizza! I've been through a number of cutting systems over the years...giant rocker knives, long Chef's knives, short rocker blades, rolling pizza wheels, you name it! My favorite is a simple 4" rolling cutter.

Having a solid workflow really helps...a good pizza oven or indoor baking steel, containers, cutters, etc. because then it's not such a chore to do!

That's a shame. I legit prefer Little Caesar's over Costco (LC is a little less consistent, but 90% of the time it exceeds Costco). Chipotle is decent, better than Taco Bell, but that's about as far as I'll take that I don't think I've been to one in 3+ years.

Papa Murphy's sells an extremely similar-looking pizza cutter at their counter for $10

Weird. Little Caesars is terrible here. Really bready and the sauce tastes like ketchup. Whereas Costco's pizza here demolishes all the chains like Dominos, Pizza Hut, Little Caesars, and Papa Johns. Like night and day better. Better chew on the crust, better tasting sauce, better tasting cheese. Only real downside is it's only either three cheese or pepperoni so can't get one with bacon or mushrooms on it.

I think we're just going to be at odds the whole way down here

Chipotle is the blandest crap I have ever had. Both when I lived in LA and in San Antonio. Taco Bell mostly grosses me out (how can you make flour tortillas with the texture and taste of bread?) but at least their meat tastes like it's seasoned. Chipotle tastes like something they'd feed me in the hospital after surgery any time I have thought to myself let me give this place another try.

I've never eaten Chipotle without having them put the tomatillo sauce on it, so it's entirely possible that it's bland without that.

Costco pizza easily beats all of the major chains. It's also a great price for the quantity. The only downside is they don't deliver so you have to schlep yourself over to a warehouse to get it.

Little Ceasars on the other hand is vile and only slightly better than the most revolting chain pizza in existence, Papa John's.

I have heard you can make an awesome steak in them too, I think you start on the ooni and finish in the oven

Which Ooni?? I had a Karu 16 with the gas burner and it was beautiful! I have a Halo Versa 16 now, it has a motorized rotating pizza stone so my pizzas come and I don't have to remember to keep turning them lol. I make 6-8 every Sunday and sell them to neighbors and a few people not too far away. They all think I'm some sort of master chef. It's crazy how much better good homemade pizza is compared to the typical pizza spot. I mean here, somewhere like Brooklyn or New Haven you can find world-class pizza on every corner. But most of us aren't that lucky.

If you live somewhere that has decent pizza at best, buying a pizza oven and making your own will make you the king of your neighborhood. I do get a lot more attention when I run my smoker, but that's because you can smell the charcoal, wood and BBQ a block away. But mostly everyone loves pizza so an outdoor pizza oven's a great investment. With that said, I'll eat Little Ceasers, I don't think it's great but I wouldn't say it's bad, it's just normal pizza. Their Detroit is REALLY good.

Around here unless you get a ginormous 24-28" party pizza, 14"'s normally the biggest you get. I always make 16"'s. And like you said there's the price. Since I do 30+ a month and will be doing a lot more soon. I sat down and figured out my costs. With good cheese, Boar's Head Pepperoni, a big grating of Grana Pando (Parmasan like Italian cheese) and a pizza box it costs me about $5.25 to make a 16". A person could make a 14" for $3 if they don't need Boar's Head Pepperoni or be fancy with a box. And it will better than any chain and most hole in the walls. There's nothing like a piping hot pizza made on some dough that had been cold fermenting in a fridge for 48-72 hours.

I have heard you can make an awesome steak in them too, I think you start on the ooni and finish in the oven
Searing a steak at 900-950f, especially with the ovens big rolling flame is amazing. If you preheat a cast iron for 8 minutes then put your steak in it and sear it for 90 seconds a side. WOOOOOOOO

And when you pull it out, the pan will be ungodly hot, so you throw some butter, garlic and tyme in and give it a minute more of basting. The crust will be next level.
If you have an Ooni Karu 16 on "low" it'll still be hot, but low enough to cook a steak if you like medium rare. Then crank it up to max and finish it. And since you're doing it outside the cloud of smoke won't set off the smoke detectors like when you do it indoors lol. Honestly, I'd say a low-end Ooni used just to sear steaks by a big steak dude wouldn't be a bad idea. You can't get the same kind of crust in a pan or on a griddle top.

A heads up, the El Diablo burger's back at Carl's. IMHO this ranks as maybe my favorite "spicy" fast food item. To me it's more towards medium, but for the average joe it would be on the hotter end. It puzzled me that they got rid of it since they still had everything that went on it except the Habanero Ranch sauce.

It is Carls so YMMV on how good the actual burger is though, The 3 around me you never know if you'll get a juicy burger or a cooked to 300f one. When they're not overcooked this is a very solid burger. I haven't had it since they brought it back, but looking at the menu it's identical to the OG one. Hopefully, they don't get rid of it again.

I feel EXTREMELY sorry for you if Costco is the "best" pizza you have available. (I don't like eating cardboard much personally)

Fact is that even here in Connecticut I can find a half-decent burrito along with pretty much ANY other type of food ... we have a lot of Mexican folks living here too. (obviously not as good/fresh as out west for the most part!)

Also "being white" has ZERO to do with having BAD TASTE and shunning seasoning in your food... rather making that implication is referred to as being racist.

Meh this is the fast food thread. Obviously there is better stuff even in San Antonio and I should have clarified I meant it's the best fast food pizza around here, eg cheap, fast, and convenient. We did used to have an amazing Neapolitan pizza joint ~5 miles from me but that one you paid for the quality. Among fast food pizza I think Costco demolishes the competition out here.

On the rare occasion I eat @ Costco I stick with the massive hot dogs! (nice and healthy!)

Truth is CT sucks in a "cost of living" sense but for great international food locally and with NYC 60 minutes away it's not easy to beat. Especially for primo Italian we're spoiled in New Haven. (much like Mexican in southern Tx/Az)

ALSO legal recreational weed! (time to consider migrating north?)

Yeah I like the dogs with lots of onion and mustard. San Antonio's not so great for international food, like if I want Hiroshima style okonomiyaki I have to make it myself. I think I have only even seen the easier Osaka style okonomiyaki in maybe one or two places in town but I much prefer Hiroshima style. And while most Mexican is outstanding here whether Tex Mex or interior Mex, still not a decent plate of mole poblano at any place I have tried here. Though I have never had a good plate of mole poblano anywhere in the US to be fair. While every plate of mole poblano I have ever had in Mexico was amazing, even in the red light districts lol.

Best I ever had was in a "fancy/semi-formal" Mexican place in Tucson years ago with my buddy who lived there... can't recall the name for the life of me! (this was mid-1990's)

Place was so good we went back 3 nights in a row.... in fact the sea bass there was one of the BEST meals I've ever eaten.

eating the "new" Double Bacon Sourdough Jack from JiTB. It's pretty damn good, sourdough's toasted with a nice crunch, and patties are juicy. I'd give it a 9.1/10, but I'd hesitate to fully recommend it because I know if I go back to that same location tomorrow and order it again, it might have soft semi stale tasting sourdough with meat that's dry as hell and be a 5/10. If JiTB ever figured out how to maintain quality like In N Out they'll be my go to 9/10 times. And they can do it, but there's no consistancy. But I suppose with the huge crap shoot of never knowing, when you bet on 12 and actually hit Snake Eyes you're beyond happy. But the odds of me getting one cooked properly with a fresh tasting tomato and bread that's actually crunchy and toasted properly is about the same odds of hitting Snake Eyes in Vegas. IMHO at 2 AM when you're hungry and have been drinking, even a 5/10 one of these would still be pretty damn good.

This is basically their old Sourdough Jack but they added another patty and threw on a slice of American Cheese. And seeing how they'll add a patty and cheese for extra, it's a stretch to call this new.

Going to go eat one next week and I'm sure I'll be back tol post a poorer review lol.

Damn, my Jack in the Box is extremely consistent: the meat is always dry as the Sahara, curly fries always mushy.

've moved maybe about 20 times while living in the us from living somewhere nice to the middle of nowhere. I've always scoped out the local fast food and franchised chains. I lived in Iowa for about 2 years a long time ago and they had the best I tink it was arby's around. god lord I loved eating there almost every day even if it wasn't healthy to do so. no arby's has come close, assuming it was was arby's and not something else Im not remembering well. there've been some indie places that are delishious too. Hate florida politics but every time I'm in tampa it's a glorious love affair with local spots and my gut. some of the best fare I've had overseas was in morocco and southern spain while married. terrifiec stuff, can still close my eyes and taste the food and the heavenly scents.

kfc is an easy buy when I'm somewhere I'm unfamiliar with. boneless chicken wraps are just fine. if I'm somewhere like colorado os certain southern states I'll stick with a chain that does flavorful grilled chicken, don't remember the name. Very nice with the mexican rice and frijoles which is beans I think. Bit expensive for "fast food" but better than the slop they serve in some southern states or the weird shit you're bound to see in colorado. the beer I appreciate.
