You think California is great because it stays warm all year? That eliminates the only season I approve of. It still gets hot as balls in the summer in most of California. I can't figure you people out.

Haven't been here in a while, man. Livin' out in Los Angeles now. L-A or as I call it, Hell-A. And, I just like getting out of there at any point. Just to go anywhere, Y'know, for the weather. They don't have fucking weather there. Hot 'n sunny every day. Today- hot 'n sunny in LA. Yesterday- hot 'n sunny. Every day- hot 'n sunny. And they love it. "Innit great? Every day- hot 'n sunny! Hot 'n sunny every day. innit neat?"

What are you, a fucking lizard? Only reptiles feel that way about this kind of weather. I'm a mammal. I can afford scarves, coats, cappuccino, and rosy-cheeked women and all are available for sale on the streets of New York. Where I will soon be returning because LA is a nightmare city and the sooner it falls into the ocean due to a major earthquake and is flushed away like the turd city it is, into the Pacific bowl, the better this world will be. The comedy of hate. Join me! It's the newest thing. Join me! Hello. Spreading Christmas cheer. Welcome. Oh, won't we party hard when LA goes kersplash. Oh, grin from ear to fucking ear, won't we? "LA fell in the ocean? AHHH-HAHAHAHAHA!" There is a God! He loves us all so much.

LA is a nightmare place. You always meet this one guy out in LA. He's always this real smarmy guy; he always says this, "Yeah, I love callin' back East January first. What're y'all doin'? Snowed in, huh? Hahaha. Bummer. Me? I'm out by the pool! Hahaha-HA!" What a dick this guy is. That's why I used to love to call LA when I lived in New York. "What're y'all doin'? Talkin' to TV producers, huh? Bummer. Me? I'm readin' a book! Yeah, we're thinkin' back East! Yeah, we're evolving. Is that "The Big One" I hear in the background? Bye, you lizard scum, bye!

(makes earthquake sound) Ah-hahahahah! It's gone. It's gone. It's gone. All the shitty shows are gone. All the idiots screamin' in the fucking wind are dead. I love it. Leaving a cool beautiful serenity called...Arizona Bay. That's right. When LA falls in the fucking ocean and is flushed away, all it'll leave is Arizona Bay.

Hot as balls in summer? Obviously you've only been to Fresno.

Hot as balls in the summer? Maybe for a heat wave or two that last a few days.

Native Californian checking in -

Had some lengua tacos a few days back from a taco truck and had me some Dungeness crab at Farallon the other night.

Could never live in a flyover state!

I live 2 miles from the ocean and it's raining heavily right now. The nearby mountains (about an hour and a half away) are getting dumped on with up to 3 feet of snow.

I guess I'll be playing in the snow this weekend and enjoying the warm weather by Monday.

That's how we roll.

California born and raised.

I laugh at people that say they want to experience the changing of the four seasons. In California we only kept the two good ones and we skip the crappy ones.

While I agree with you to some extent those same cities, especially Stockton and Modesto were the highest appreciation real estate areas in the country for several years before the bubble. I think houses reached over half a million in a dump like Stockton before settling down at about $50,000.

I lived in Sac briefly, before coming to my senses. I personally find that city to be very undesirable as well. That area isn't looking so good either. Depends on where you are of course but Sacramento is now #7 in the state for violent crimes.

Real estate appreciation means little. Stockton, Modesto, Manteca, Lathrop, Ripon, French Camp, Escalon, Linden, etc have always been pretty sketchy. Tracy, too. (WTH is Tracy now considered "Bay Area" by some people?!?) What happened in the '90s and '00s was a bunch of tech people in the bay area cashing out their stock options and moving to the central valley for McMansions. That drove RE prices up but did nothing to alleviate the general craphole conditions of the cities; if anything it only made them worse.

I grew up in Manteca. It used to be a lower-middle class farming community. The city was pretty much contained within the borders of I-5, 99, and 113. I went to school in the farmland, surrounded by almond orchards and dairies. Then the tech money came in and my parents' 20yo house that they bought for $105,000 was selling for >$750,000. Oakwood Lake Resort closed down and became multi-family housing. The Gold Rush City" folks talked the Lathrop city council into approving their theme park boondoggle that turned into thousands of homes (and no theme park!) west of I-5 in the giant flood plain that had wiped out homes in ~1996. The Spreckles sugar plant was torn down and turned into a giant strip mall. Population surged to almost 100,000. Then it all crashed and population dwindled back to 1990 levels but the strip malls, empty houses, and crime remained.

That happened all over that part of the valley. Add in Lodi and Galt too. And Ceres. It was (and is) the living embodiment of Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax."

I did my time on the mean streets of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks. Barely made it out alive. Now I serve as a warning to others -- you can survive, but you will have to make hard choices. Smart choices. And get out. As soon as you can.

Watch out for flooding this weekend.
It's the damn 15-20' storm surge that's putting a damp in my surfing this weekend. Maybe I'll join Imported in Napa, or, do other awesome things that awesome Californians get to do. I mean, watching the sunset over the Pacific ocean is awesome enough.

Another awesome Californian checking in. The only thing that is not awesome is the house market up in the bay area.

While I lived in an "awesome" part of the state for over ten years (Monterey), I was born and raised in the Central Valley. Places like Oroville, Los Banos, Gridley, Oakdale, Merced and Fresno. I did live in the Sierra for a number of years (Mariposa County). The majority of my life I've been in places that coastal Californians turn their collective noses up at (as witnessed in this thread).
