To second sunzt: just ordered my E6600 from ClubIT (they're in stock, and that's apparently being updated in realtime), $360 for the OEM, but that's apparently peanuts next to the insane prices at Newegg, etc. Free FedEx shipping, too. w00t!

It's kinda wierd though, they have another OEM E6600, but with a different ClubIT number that says out of stock lower on the conroe page

This is also far from being a paper launch. People have no concept of what a real paper launch is like.

Actually, I think all the major factors are there, including:

- Extreme scarcity of product (especially retail product).
- Instant/near-instant sell-out's whenever a retailer gets some product in
- Prices as high as 50% over the suggested price, at several different retailers
- All of this despite an overstatement of supply, and a week and a half grace period to start getting chips out
- OEM's indicating that they will not ship for several more weeks

...so yes, it is a paper launch, Intel announced availability of a product that is not actually available for the vast majority of people. The last time something like this happened was with the 6xxx series of graphics cards, and if I remember correctly it was so irritating that anandtech actually posted on an article on their site that basically said "that's it, we're tired of these paper launches and virtually nonexistent availability, so we're not going to review any graphics card until we know that there is actualy retail availability of it".

I really don't see why they shouldn't come forward and make the same kind of statement about the Core 2, other than that new CPU's aren't released as often as new graphics cards are.

Edit: No, wait...actually I think it was the 5xxx series of grapics cards that pissed everyone off, or more specifically, the 59xx series from nvidia.

Haven't $360 offers for OEM e6600s come and gone multiple times already? I really can't decide whether to pull now or wait for a retail.

The only place I recall having so many was Tigerdirect. I haven't seen any other place have 100+ E6600s

argh I hate living in california. It's basically an automatic sales tax fee through most vendors = + $30 to an already overpriced chip....

I'm really wary of getting an OEM model of a brand new technology. I'm really into the 3 year warranty aspect of going retail. My retail E6600 is scheduled to show up tomorrow. I'm happy.

Hmm, you can sign up for a tax exempt account at clubIT. Do they actually verify this or would this be between you and the IRS?

Nah. You guys looking to buy now should just be patient. In less than two weeks, we'll see a plethora of these things, and the prices will be much closer to MSRP.

Business gouge because people pay the price.

I just ordered mine as well. Thanks so much for posting that!!! I didn't want to pay $360 but I'd rather do that than wait another week or more.

They swore over the telephone that the chips were instock so they had better ship!
The max number I can put in my cart has been steadily declining; it just stopped at 100 so I guess they really did get a big shipment.

I wonder how they got so many when ScrewEgg isn?t getting any more than a trickle?

At this stage in the game, I think I'm beginning to consider downgrading to the E6400 meself. The E6600, IIRC, didn't show $100 worth of performance increase over the E6400.

I'm still gonna wait a bit, but with prices continuing at this pace, the E6400 might be my best option. We'll see how willing I'll become to departing with $400...

Ya, I just swallowed my anger/prudence/self-loathing and did it too. This is certainly not the worst gouge around, and the company's got a great reseller ratings score. And a 1 year OEM warranty is not horrible, especially since you can put whatever cooling solution on it you like.

Quick question:

Gigabyte DS3 vs. Asus P5B?

no OC'ing, just outofthebox solid performance for low price.

Also i read DS3 HAS TO have a 1.8v RAM or wont post, im looking to get 1.9v RAM, stick with ASUS then?

So did we use up all of our emotion yelling at price gougers and complaining about inadequate supply? E6600s are here and for something approaching a decent price, where?s the enthusiasm?

No joke. I'm amazed ClubIT hasn't sold old already.

All these whiners and moaners and seems everyone was just waiting for a 6600.

Well, they're here...Not too bad on the price either.
