I really wish we had more televised Indy. Upper-Middle Class car races > Redneck racing.

We also need to look at which drives more motor innovation. In Indy racing there's so much more room for investment and innovation as far as technology goes. Hybrid motors? Better brakes? In spite of being restricted (the networks want close races; they don't want smackdowns), the potential at least exists should they decide to forgo close races in the name of science.

Indy was one of the few reasons for ICE investment (for a lot longer than Nascar was). Now that everything is so darn regulated (and in Nascar there's already no point in developing better brakes, or implementing a hybrid electric/gas engine) there's no economic incentive for all these new technologies to be developed and perfected. It's really killing the long term market for a short term close race that brings in more viewers.

Think someone who has little interest in this event (Daytona 500) can get into it at all? I'm going to give it a shot i think. Nascar looks cool in HD. Go...Dale Jr? Gotta root for someone
