What the hell are you talking about?

Anyway, thanks to Chaotic for starting this thread. My house is in Slidell, LA (45 minutes NorthEast of NO) and got 5 feet of floodwater during Katrina. It took 2 years to get back in it. I lived in 2 different FEMA trailers and a one bedroom apartment. I better not flood again with this one, or I'll be looking for a new place. At least I'm fully insured this time though. I still wish I had cut down that last Pine tree that was left after Katrina...

I'm out of country right now, but my wife evacuated all the way to Tennessee somewhere, since she didn't reserve a place early enough. I haven't talked to her yet, but I'm guessing it was another evacuation from Hell with our 3-year old and two cats.

Good luck to me!

Have you figured out where she went yet? We have a number of people being taken care of by the Red Cross at MTSU in Murfreesboro, TN (just outside of Nashville).

Yeah, watching CNN and they are showing some of the levees overflowing. Not real bad but disappointing imho that it's been 3 years since Katrina and we don't have a system in place that can withstand a cat2 without issue.

Its still quiet up in the Lafayette/ Opelousas, LA area. Its been raining since the morning, but nothing ridiculious, and its slight wind, but still very very vanilla stuff.

I guess my heliports in Houma and Fourchon are getting nailed.

Kind of a pansy of hurricane , damages will probably be in hundreds of millions instead of billions. Since its probably peakin right now.

CNN is still predicting over $9 billion in damages along the Gulf Coast.

Btw, Fox News is reporting on these two loose decommissioned Navy ships that could potentially damage the levees causing water to break through.

Looks northern N.O. Industrial Canal area is feet under water. Even the police have left the area.

They just downgraded Gustav to a 2 and ugraded Hanna to a 1 hurricane. The Neverending Story.

There are going to be more floods if it stalls and brings more rain to the Mississippi river.

Im thinking in material damages instead of economy as a whole.

You ain't kidding, Hanna was supposed to reach minimal cat1 by thursday and skip just by us (Daytona), within 3 hours it intensified to 75MPH and I don't trust the track either. The weather underground Link is showing 3 more systems and 2 are already swirling like crazy. Insurance is difficult to find in FL right now and all this activity isn't going to help.

Oh, those of you in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas might want to secure your yards. I would imagine that you all will get some bad weather in the next 24 hours or so.

Welcome back

Hey I've been told repeatedly on here that the storms don't go that far, so how can that be?

Thanks. It really does look like it's coming for you. Stay safe.

I'm not there at the moment but family member are.

My place is at the water line as was tested a couple of times last year so flooding would not be an issue for the house.

Tornadoes, that's another story.

i guess it's not getting much national coverage, but they estimate it to be more expensive than betsy, which was $9.7b in 2008 dollars. 99% of east baton rouge parish lost power. they estimate 5-7 days to get 50% of the parish back up, and 4-5 weeks for the other 50%.

i currently live in Metairie (a suburb of NOLA) but evacuated to my parents' house in Baton Rouge. it looks like a bomb went off around town. trees everywhere... not just tree limbs, but entire trees ripped out of the ground. even giant 100+ year old live oaks, were completely uprooted.

one guy on the radio called in to say that he evacuated to his grandparents house + bednbreakfast and said a tree fell on his suburban, one on his grandparents' house, and another on the bednbreakfast. one tree in our front yard was completely split in half and our neighbor's 20- foot tree was completely uprooted.

we dont have power, except a small generator for our fridge, a box fan, and some small electronics. we finally got cell service back and i have a phone that can tether to my laptop so it at least gives me something to do

Finally got the power back up today here in Ferriday. Being without lights and A/C was a cool adventure for approximately one hour. Not so much the following 47 or so...

i uploaded a few pictures of our damage. sorry for the small resolution but my bandwidth is a tad limited.

highland road - one of the main roads in south Baton Rouge, trees down everywhere. this is actually one of the cleaner areas, but you can clearly see trees and powerlines everywhere. if you look closely, that street light on the power pole is actually bent out of shape and the casing is dangling off

neighbor's tree that was ripped out of the ground. there are trees 2, 3, even 4 times the size of this tree that were ripped out in other areas of the city

2 trees in our front - they were both about the same size, but now only half of one stands

all the fallen branches gone - theres a few limbs and leaves still left on the second tree, but it's gotta go

the resulting pile

Well I finally got internet back. I never did lose power. The westbank of Jefferson parish made out fairly well - except for the sewer system. Apparently the lift stations have not had power restored. There seems to be mostly wind damage. I drove over to Belle Chasse in Plaquemines parish to check out my employer. No power but I didn't see any damage. My boss still wants me to come tomorrow. WTH.
