Butt hurt much?

A good AR-15 cost less then $1,000, so I do not know where you get this $11,000 from.

Maybe your getting superior confused with safe?

When the county sheriff gets on the local radio station and tells people "do not call 911, because we can not help you", the only people you can depend on are your friends, family, and yourself. There is no "superiority" in being self-sufficient.

When you walk out of your house in the middle of he night, and there are no lights, no cars, no trucks, no nothing but silence and pitch black darkness, it gives you a sense of eeriness. There is no turning on the lights, there is no calling for help, no phones, no internet,,,,,,,.

And that is what its like after a hurricane.

1. Wow, after a hurricane is like where I live all year - it's dark out at night, and quiet.

2. Tis sad that you can depend on only your friends, family, and self. Up here, we can also rely on our communities to pull together.

You are really trying hard to make yourself out to be more superior than people in Texas. Ironically you are coming off as looking pretty fucking dumb. Actually dumb would be an understatement.

It's quite possible that I have more guns at my immediate disposal than every forum member from Texas combined. Yet I don't use that to buttress an argument of superior protection. You know why? Because I don't need them to be safe. My area of the country is civilized.

A statement that you need guns just to get by in a region is a statement of the inferiority of that region.

Ha ha ha ha....lol. I guess that would encompass the whole United States then since we fought 2 World Wars to protect ourselves?

And how much of that was on American soil?

Are you submitting that Iwo Jima would've been a superior place to live during 19 February–26 March 1945 due to the necessity of guns?

Anything north of Conroe is Yankee land, everyone knows this. How's the clam chowder? And they couldn't get to the US because we beat them with all those guns that were made in New England.

Not sure what the hell I'm going to do if (when) the power goes out. Probably going to drink until I black out and hope that the power is back on when I wake up.

EDIT: Still have >50% of Atlas Shurgged left to read. That'll keep me busy for a bit.

There's so much sensationalism in the media now. GF and I just got back from dining out and we're nice and cozy at home, bracing for the storm.

We're actually in Zone C.

We stocked up a bit (didn't need much), and staying in nicely bracing for the storm. Let's see if it ever lives up to the city's wise preparation. I'll believe it when the whole Battery Park and Wall St. gets flooded as they say.

The biggest problem with the storm is it is big and slow moving. 50mph winds for an hour are nothing, 50mph winds for over a day though can do a lot of damage. I'm in one of the suggested evac areas in NC and stayed but I am also fairly well versed in survival techniques like hunting, fishing, medical, carpentry, and I have been through these things for 30+ years.

I just took in a feral cat, poor thing was soaking wet sitting outside my door , I just left the door cracked and he came in and laid on the floor and went to sleep. Later it got up , walked to the door looked outside then laid back down. I told him he can go when he wants, he looked at me like " WTF ? Are you nuts ?". Windy and rainy is about all it is so far, but I know how fast that can change.

Man, the stores here in Eastern CT are mobbed. I stocked up on a few things, but we already have most of what we need.

Already stocked up on water, food, basic medical supplies, clothing, batteries, pet food, SOME fire wood, and just bought 10 gallons of gas today.

To do:
- Charge all laptops, cell phones, tablet, etc.
- Do all loads of laundry / dishes
- Plug the bath tub and fill it with water (bucket + manually filling tank on toilet = flushable toilet during power outage FTW)
- ???

The rain doesn't start until 3am.

I did a 18 mile run up the west side highway... it was a beautiful 3 hours all the way up and back down. I live right by the brooklyn bridge. I'm in zone A but I live on the 13th floor... funny thing is that the 5 story building across the street is in zone C, there's no B.

Why couldn't this hurricane happen on a workday

No tourists here, It really looks dead outside. No cars or traffic at all, a lot of people left. Just the sound of the rain and the wind in the trees.

Trains would park in safe locations as conditions deteriorate. There is no reason to suspend needed service until that point.
Tell that to the people stuck on a train during last years blizzard.

Imagine 30-40 mile hour winds and pouring rain and losing power and having the train have to sit on the tracks for 24-48 hours while the storm passes overhead.

I sure as hell don't want to sit through even a mild storm in a tin can. Would be scary as hell.

The Norfolk local news was essentially a 30 minute weather report.

Intrepid field reporters down in the Outer Banks are reporting that is raining and windy.
I lived there in 2004? when that last hurricane hit Tidewater.

The tidewater area sucks for that stuff. Everything is low and everything floods. And then the old trees were down all over the place. Imagine 10,000 trees down in one day.

Took weeks to clean up all the trees from the roads and sidewalks.

2-3 days of dusk to dawn curfews as well. The whole area came to a crawl for days due trees and no power. Just a mess.

So which military base do you live on?
