Wow you got some money there man! :Q

AFAIK the RAID channels also support two devices per channel, so it would be 8 devices total.

Just do a little research to find the USB and # of RAM slots.

So I've got a MS-6507 with DDR support & 845 chipset. I wonder anybody had this problem as mine not. MY FDD DOESN'T WORK. And I just buld this pc. Everything is still new. Actually it does work 'sometimes' but most of the time it just can't read my diskettes. I tried changing a new m/b & fdd but still the same. Could it be there's a bug in the m/b or chipset itself? Any ideas guys?

Are the diskettes you're trying to read old diskettes? I'd try a brand new pack of floppies and see if you can read and write to them first. I have tons of old floppies around my house that are pretty much unreadable. The funny thing I've noticed with floppies over the years is that I can sometimes read the diskettes on the original system that I wrote the data on them with, but if I try to read that diskette in a different drive it doesn't always work.

Do you have the cable on backwards? Keep the red wires together.

Quick Q about the MSI 845E MAX2:

I read the Tbreak review of it and they said it has no DDR333 support?
/cry
someone reiterate this to me so I can safely drift back to reality? I can't tell from MSI's spec page. I don't think I've ever been so in love with a motherboard 'till now... I'd figure with Fuzzy Logic and etc that maybe it isn't so... but it's late and I'm out of it. Hope to find out in the morning...

Only 845G boards support 333MHz DDR.

No problem.

Just make sure to keep us posted on how your P4T533-C board progresses, OK?

Steve

Word is that the 8IGXP will be hitting the streets in 2 to 3 weeks. Do not mistake it for the 8IGX, which is a slightly stripped down version, different specs, different clocks, different lan, etc

Peace

Speaking of integrated LAN, why is MSI the only one using the Intel controller in the ICH4? Abit, Soltek, and Epox are using the Realtek, Gigabyte is using "Kinnereth"(WTF?), not sure about Asus. Intel makes the best Ethernet controllers on the market, and it's already built into the chipset.

I double checked the cables. It's correctly installed. I tried using new & old diskkettes but still the same. The funny thing is that it doesn't always can't read. It's able to read sometimes then it stop reading after rebooting. I had a few friends who got the same m/b & they actually facing the same problem too. My vendor can't seem to do anything about it except changing the board but it doesn't help at all.

Is there a bug to the 845 chipset?

I'm not sure why anyone wants a Gigabyte P4 board after the 8IRXP disaster.

I do. I put together a 8IRXP system for a friend and it was rock solid...and feature rich...There was a problem with rebooting when overclocked but the problem was resolved...see:

[L=]http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/25024.html[/L]

Anytime you are on the leading edge, introducing untried technology, such as the first i850E to have ICH4, there will be some pitfalls...but if no one did it we wouldn't have innovations...I think Gigabyte is as good as ASUS and I applaud their willingness to take a risk...But that's just my opinion!

Every Gigabyte board I've used has been very stable, but had a bunch of little glitches that collectively drove me nuts. BIOS support is terrible as well. I just don't think they have the whole "enthusiast" thing down yet, as they've always been a no-frills type company.

OK, I just checked out Gigabyte's 850E, and while it does use the ICH4, it still uses Realtek LAN and NEC USB 2.0! So why not just use the ICH2?

jaeger66, according to the press release the board will let you have 10 USB 2.0 ports - I'm guessing 6 due to the ICH4 and 4 from the NEC chip. Now how you get 10 ports in your case is another story.

I'm disappointed that they didn't go with the Intel LAN chip like in their other boards, but the other 850E choices out there seem only fair. Nonetheless, I'm waiting for a review before I buy.

sao123, I haven't seen one yet and I've been looking.

Good point!

I'll have to check that question out...but it'll have to be later...

can anyone confirm the pci/agp lock and unofficial support for PC2700 ram on these boards?
reading the manufacturers specs doesn't mention it.

About the Abit Boards. I am interested in the TH7-IIR, which is an 850 chipset board. However, I think I am waffling. My concerns are regarding the DDR v. RDRAM debate. It seems to me that the RDRAM is better and prices are bearable. However, what is the long term on this issue? I just read an article about the new P4 2.4 (Here) and the last couple of sentences go something like this
"...The simple reason behind this relates to the cost of RIMM modules in contrast to DDR, and the moderate gain in performance isn't enough to sway the average consumer. In summary, the Intel 850E chipset caters extremely well for the power-user, but the high cost and uncertain future of RDRAM makes it a no-go for most price conscience buyers - but not everybody is price conscience!"
Uncertain future???? Are they scrapping this line and going to focus on the 845??? If so, it would seem as the BD-7IIR would be the way to go. Any comments.

Intel's roadmap has the 850E as the last desktop RDRAM chipset. Of course, these things are never carved in stone. At any rate, dual channel DDR controllers could, maybe, perhaps make RDRAM irrelevant.

AFAIK the Gigabyte 8IEXP has Intel LAN.

If the 845G is faster than the 845E then why do a lot of people prefer the 845E? Am I missing something?
