I consider it a must-have for iPad and iPhone. Tabbed browsing at full screen alone worth $.99 price, not to mention other feathures.

I also like iCab as an alternate browser, either are better than Safari.

I'm starting to hate my iPad due to the broken wifi. I mean, let's not beat around the bush. Apple fucked up hard with the wifi.

Signal strength is very inconsistent in my room. One moment it's high and capable of streaming HD video with no problem. The other minute the signal just drops completely and it won't connect ot anything. All the while my dinky little cell phone gets a solid wifi connection as does my mini laptop and desktop.

It literally becomes useless due to the broken wifi. Apple needs to fix this and soon. Or droid needs to launch their product.

And back to not having direction arrows on the keyboard. Sorry, but tap and hold and using the magnifying glass sucks. And have you tried scrolling up and down through a longer message that you've got typed up and sitting in the quick reply window such as the one on this forum? Almost impossible. Retardedly slow.

You might actually have a defective unit. My iPad has great (not as good as a full size laptop or a wifi add in card) reception, definitely better than my iPhone. I have no problems watching youtube or netflix even on one bar of signal in the far corner of the campus library a good distance from the hotspot.

If I were you I would go complain to the "geniuses" at an Apple store. I hear that can get things done.

all it takes is one wireless phone to nuke the entire spectrum.

and of course we all know microwave's are on channel 6 - so if its food time no air time.

btw you notice the ipad will pull 20 megabit downloads but the iphone 3gs restricts to much slower. took forever to move 1.5gb ipa to iphone over wifi but lightning fast on ipad. both 16gb. odd?

Good info, I hadn't done any research as I haven't had any problems. It's good to know Apple acknowledged the issue.

Is there any difference between buying the iPad in a store vs online? I'd rather get it at the store but it seems like theyll never have the damned thing in stock.

How does activation work? I may not have internet access when I first get my iPad. (Not getting it at an Apple store either, so in-store activation is not available)

3G is pre-activated. it will prompt you to make an account with at&t and for credit card infoz. it uses 3G of course to do that.


1. GPS and games/etc that can use positioning.
2. Tethering (pdanet/mywi) for your other devices
3. backup to primary internet provider See #2
4. month to month - no commit
5. improves resale value definitely.

the ipad 16GB 3G is the most popular selling model of all.

Not sure if they can do that at Best Buy, in the flyer Best Buy was charging $70 for activation, setup, and some other hokey baloney.

Got a shitty incase case that I will return in a couple weeks. Any recommendations on cases? Apple one was sold out. 3-4 weeks backordered.

KAZAM! Did you need your machine to be connected to the internet to activate the iPad?

I thought they'd do it at the store, but to my surprise and delight (hated how they opens my iPhone out before I did) they just gave me the box. I actually am not around a computer right now so I can only stare at it in the box, but it tells me i need to connect it to iTunes...so I'm thinking yes, you do need to connect it to the Internet to activate it.

to activate 3G, go to Settings > Cellular Data

u may have to wait a minute, but eventually it comes up with the signup page.


btw, got the zagg protector on and it is great. very clear and nice texture to it. like a semi-rubber grip. had a hella time putting it on though

Edit: holy shit I have bad backlight bleed on the top part of my iPad. Is this normal.

yeah i got a hand held items one. the glossy still show fingerprints. was $12 for case and screen protector. both are great. i ordered a matte finish one which generally rule since they dont show fingerprints and less glare.

Yeah I freaking love it. Trying to decide if I should order the apple case + screen protector since it's currently 3-4 weeks backordered. Unless the backlight issue resolves itself, I will make an appointment and go exchange it. Not a big deal at this point. I'll wait a couple days.

Really is a pretty neat piece of technology. Cost me shload tho, and accessories are quite expensive.

Any favorite sites to order the screen protectors from!
