Hope y'all don't mind if I ask how the new ipod Touch compares to the ipad ? I know the smaller screen means it's designed for different useage, not as suitable for long browsing sessions or reading a book; but except for screen size is there anything missing from the Touch ?

not surprising, I don't know a single iPhone owner who doesn't love it. People can carry on forever about how only stupid people buy Apple products. But their satisfaction ratings are always at the top. I wonder why no other company can seem to figure out how to get stupid people to buy their products and give them 91% satisfaction ratings. Stupid users or not any other company would kill to be able to pull off what Apple does.

IMHO these are the kids that had families that couldn't afford an Apple ][ or //e back in the day and got a Vic 20, TRS80, or TI-99/4a instead.

They brewed for 20+ years against Apple.

I was fortunate enough to get access to both IBM and Apple lineups at home in even the 80's

The new touch has a camera that can shoot 720p video. Thats something the iPad doesn't have. I also believe it has a slower CPU. IIRC, the Touch's A4 is down clocked to 800mhz. Both have 256mb of ram. The iPad has a much longer battery life though.

Try to view the ipad as more of a netbook replacement. The Touch's small screen size limits its usability beyond just basic PMP functions.

ipad rear camera is gimped - it sucks hard compared to iphone 4. worse than iphone 3gs.

the speaker like the old ipod is far inferior to iphone and definitely ipad. ipad is loudest of all. ipod is behind the metal backing and damn near impossible to hear when there is ambient noise.

ipod screen is not S-IPS - it sucks compared to ipad and iphone 4.

buttons feel cheaer on outside.

the facetime is just goofy if you have an iphone 4 and ipod sometimes folks will call your iphone. needs work. Doesn't route to voicemail if you have no wifi signal and the facetime call rings out.

The ipad is worth the $499 - the ipod is $229 - so expect to get half (or more) in quality. the iphone 3gs/ipad/iphone4 feel nice - professional - usable.

It's like they scraped the cheapest sources for the ipod 4t h gen to make sometime as cheap as possible. well they did it.

I'm sellin my spare ipa's and awaiiting ipad generation 2 with+ cameras.

perhaps this a precursor to an iphone 4- lite.

It's difficult to compare the two though. While similar, iPod and iPad owners are using their devices for different things. The iPad is more of a net book replacement while the iPod is still a PMP.

QFT...prior to the iPad everyone expected the Touch and iPod to equal the iPhone minus the phone features...now they want everything the iPad and iPhone have.

I never even thought about why my iPad has no camera except for it'd be nice to have a webcam built in for chat.

Got my camera kit today. Currently typing on my ipad using a USB keyboard. Makes the $69 keyboard dock seem almost redundant. My USB headset also works with it. Undocumented features FTW.

Still need to get a case for it though with a proper stand. Don't really feel like paying $40 though for cardboard wrapped in pleather. I'm cheap when it comes to accessories.

dunno i got a rev.b air (120gb sata/2gb ram) for $700 off amazon with 1.5years applecare remaining. had to use it cause it came with a bad wifi card. 1 week later - i have to say the macbook air is far more usable for $700 than the ipad wifi. the 3g? well the ispot seems to love the macbook as-is no hacks. GPS that's another thing.

the problem really is the ipod touch has diluted the current ipad with the camera/facetime - the ipad is not that cool without facetime - 4.1/4.2 is non-jb unless you like tethered.

i find i use in order:
pc desktop; can't beat a 30" display
iphone 4 (4.0.1 JB)
macbook air (coolbook helps alot with battery life 3-4hrs is real) - bootcamp is nice for7
ipod touch 4th (4.1) - facetime is really goofy to get setup
ipad 3G (3.2 JB) [kid uses this mostly, navigon works great on this]
iphone 3G (4.0.1 JB) [for playing with new beta firmwares MB 3G has vulnerable bootrom - aka no tethered 4.1/4.2 when JB comes out of beta)
iphone 2G (3.1.3 JB)[kid uses this mostly]

CrazyOnDigital Black Leather Case For Apple iPad? Looks very cheap and doesn't look like your ipad will be very secure held inside the case. Plus it doesn't have a way to prop up the ipad - trust me - you will want this feature.

If you have the money - go buy one from a store that allows returns or will let you try it out in the store.

Update, I got the Yoobao V3 case off of ebay. Its very high quality and fits the iPad like a glove. I highly recommend it if anyone is looking for a high quality leather folio type case.

The case box and labeling is full of very amusing engrish

I laugh at those who carry around the full foleo case (+ kickstand) + wireless keyboard and dribble over themselves at meetings to tell me how wonderful it is. You've got a 3lb gimped notebook right there.

My iPads wear incipio Feathers and screen protectors, that's it - and it's only a precautionary measure as I know Apple can't make something which actually stands up to daily handling without looking like crud, unlike other makers - especially as I tend to leave toys at home. And on the fairly rare occasions they do venture out, they are in reasonably padded sleeves/compartments.
