Got my iPhone... syncing lots of music and apps to it already.

The display is unfuckingbelievable. :awe: It's seriously awesome. I love it just for that fucking display and how fast it actually does shit. God damn, I am used to phones that crawl. Btw, antenna issue is present where I am. I get wildly different signal ranges at my house from 1 bar to 5 bar. (While not even holding it!) Let's just say... I live in a dimensional gateway between hell and a pulsar. It already has 4.0.1 on it.

If your signal is changing without you touching it, that's not "the antenna issue", that's just shitty service.

The antenna thing does happen though when I do hold it though. (I tried it at places outside my residence) It goes down 2 bars.

And yeah, our service is kinda weird out here. I don't really care though... I am not going to be dropping calls or not getting texts, so no worries. (It's not that bad. Just 3 bars) I use my wireless for all the internet stuff if I ever do any on the phone in my house.

Everything, you idiot. I looked at the preview and knew you'd replied. It's just classic you.

Read the post below this. He's right. This is not ATOT. Discuss the phone or stay out.

Ok, this isn't ATOT; stop being an asshat.

If you don't have anything nice or constructive to say, then just don't say anything.

I think this is what is happening in a lot of places as well. I put the free case on that I got and still notice service dips and drops.. so it just comes down to crappy AT&T service it seems.

Mine arrived yesterday and the same thought crossed my mind. Everyone has talked about the display, but screenshots and written experiences really don't properly convey just what it looks like. I'm not having an epiphany like some people are, but I have to admit it's impressive that it's at such a high resolution that I can't perceive the individual pixels even up close.

It's also the first device I've ever used that's handled a higher pixel density "properly" - while you can what artwork is still at lower resolutions, everything properly scales up so that it's the right physical size in spite of the resolution difference. Mac OS X and Windows do not get this right.

My first infraction! I thought I won something when I got that email. Oops.

Anywho, even though my phone does not display full signal bars pretty much, uh... ever, I've only had one dropped call since getting the phone and overall, call quality has been vastly improved over the 3G. Sure, if I held it a certain way, I could get it to drop bars but my point is I'd have to purposefully try and do it. Not once did I think it is a problem with the design - it's just the way it is.

Anyone know of some good iPhone 4 apps? I'm trying to find some more, but it seems that many of them want money... which is stupid. They can be extremely simple apps but they want money for them. So lame... I don't want to pay for an app.

I got a chance to play around with it at Best Buy. Holy S is it fast. Display is gorgeous too. Their display model was actually jailbroken too. Spotted Cydia hidden on the last app page.

I tried to get it to replicate the antenna problem but it wouldn't. Definitely had a SIM in it but I couldn't get the bars to drop. Must be really good signal strength in the area, or maybe I was holding it right by accident.

It's a good thing the Droid X isn't out in Canada or I'd be really split between the two.

lulz. I should go to all the iPhones on display at stores, jailbreak them on the website, and then proceed to brick them. :awe: Just for RUINING THEIR LIVESZZZ!!! >

They might have a microcell there, and that could easily make it impossible to ruin antenna reception.

Anyway, how the fuck do I get my iPhone to stop doing shit? For some reason I've had 1 day and 7 hours of useage, but also 1 day and 7 hours of standby. WTF? I haven't been using the fucking phone! I've been quitting the ALL the apps like constantly and it still drains the god damn battery. I'm at 26 fucking percent of battery left! WTF? I turned off push notifications for every fucking thing I could and it's still draining the fucker.

Tips?

The battery will drain about a third overnight by doing nothing. I'll have the phone practically off (no apps, no use, nothin'...) and lose 20-30 percent of my battery. wtf?

Try a fresh restore without using a backup and see if that fixes it.

If you have everything off and it's still draining, then I'm not sure. Take it back.

Are you SURE nothing is on? Location services (GPS) are enabled by default and eat a ton of battery. Do you have your email setup to fetch or reload quickly? That much network access can do it. Even though apps appear to be off, if you have their push notices enabled something will still run when/if it gets messages.

I have location services on, but I assumed they weren't used unless I had the app on. No apps should be on since I double tap the home button and clear everything there constantly.

Email is setup to be fetched once an hour. I turned push off for email.

4.0.2 just came out. Idk what it does... I'm not installing yet. Oh, it was released yesterday but I just got it. Hah.

Anyway, not installing because it patches PDF exploit apparently.

If you want to save battery, also turn off push notifications.

I already said they were off.

Some mysterious app was draining all my battery because I restored my phone to 4.0.1 yesterday (yay for shift+click and downloads), didn't install any apps... put most of my shit back on the phone excluding apps and email(I didn't set it up)... 95% battery after "1 hour, 34 minutes" usage(Weird how it said something like 54 minutes last night before I went to bed... I haven't used the phone at all...), and 12 hours, 40 minutes of Standby.

I don't get it. What makes my phone be used? Is the usage it just checking for SMS messages and maybe watching the clock?

Anyway, possible suspects of draining my battery are the stock email client(doubtful since I had it on 1 hour update, no push), BrushyTime, Calorie Counter, Castle Smasher, Critical Wave, Free Wi-Fi Finder, Genius Scan, Groupon, Healthy Recipes, LED Flashlight, Mega Jump, OpenTable, PriceGrabber, RedLaser, Remember The Milk, Dragon Dictation, Speedtest.net Speed test, Touch Hockey: FS5, Urbanspoon, and maybe Yelp.

I might have never used some of those apps, but I remember possibly using them. So, one of those apps just drains the shit outta my battery for no fucking reason. (Push notifications are off) Even though I turn them "off" in the double-home tap shit

Time to get the iPad apps thread going again. Not sure if its been mentioned but is anybody using Atomic Browser? I just picked it up and damn I'm impressed with it. It's not perfect but still a huge leap towards a desktop-like browsing experience. Tabs! Also has a built in ad blocker, site specific searches, image blocker, in page search, mobile and desktop browsing modes, and a pr0n mode. It has some issue, as in not caching pages when you exit, but that's not a big deal.

The app costs $1 but there's a light version to try.

I've got an iPhone 3G S and I'm eligible for the upgrade to an iPhone 4. Should I do it?

My biggest reservations about the upgrade:

1) I wish there was a 64 GB version. My 3G S is 32 GB and is full (music, movies, apps). If I'm going to spend a lot of cash I'd like it to be an upgrade. With the 64 GB iPod Touch out now it is all but guaranteed that the "iPhone 5" will offer 64 GB.

2) The antenna issue. Yeah, yeah, I know it has been blown out of proportion. However, there is some truth to it.

3) Cost-per-time. The "iPhone 5" will almost certainly fix issues 1 and 2 and it will almost certainly come out next June. Therefore, is it worth the cost of an upgrade now if it will only be used until 6/2011. Worse yet, I'd be really upset if they didn't offer early upgrades for the "iPhone 5" so I couldn't get one because I upgraded to an iPhone 4 now.

I went from a 3G to a 4. I have been very happy with my new phone but if I were you I'd probably wait unless you've suffered severe speed problems with iOS 4.x (I know I did, but my 3G is much slower than a 3Gs).

1: The iPhone only has room for 1 NAND chip, so until there are 64GB single chip NAND available in significant quantities for Apple (I recall reading last year that Apple was using something like 25% of the world's NAND supply), there won't be a 64GB iPhone. However, I think it is a safe bet that the iPhone 5 will have that.

2: My roommate has reported no antenna issues, but we are in a reasonably strong area. He is leaving for a week and a half boating trip, so if he can catch a signal offshore, he will let me know if it dropped by touching the death corner

3: That's a toughy. I think they did early upgrades for both the 3GS and the 4, but 2 times does not make a habit/tradition.
