No need to lie, especially when the truth is so easy to find on Apple's own website: http://store.apple.com/us/product/AP...are-for-iphone

Apple has NEVER offered standard accidental damage warranty coverage on any of their products. A broken screen on an iPhone costs $99 upfront for AppleCare+, and a $49 service fee for the accidental damage repair.

Yeah, you'd have to be smoking something real strong if you think they're just going to fix your $650 device that you dropped for free.

I did go caseless with the 3GS for year. It survived quite a few drops on carpet, but even the first drop onto concrete separated split the plastic. Still works, but if it was the 4 it'd have shattered completely. A friend of mine went caseless with his 4, I told him he was crazy, he said, well, he hadn't dropped it yet. Next week he had a shattered screen. I've got a 4S with a rubber case that has the little lip coming over the front. I've dropped it face first onto concrete several times, and not a scratch.

If they were really serious about making it light and not form over function, they'd skip the metal and glass, and just make the damn thing durable without a case. I'm sure Tim Cook doesn't need to sweat it cause he's a billionaire, but normal people do.

I have used cases with my 3G and 4, but in both cases ended up taking them off. My 4 wears an SGP wood grain skin, just to make the back less slippery, and an SGP screen cover, but is otherwise unadorned. I've never dropped the phone and it still looks basically new after more than 2 years. My 3G did take one fall onto tarmac, which left a nasty scuff, but it was otherwise fine.

Ouch. Unofficial benchmarks of the Iphone 5 thoroughly trounce the US versions of the Galaxy III. Bests the real, outside the US, versions of the SIII as well. IE: The Dual Core A6 at 1Ghz, spanks the dual core 1.5Ghz Snapdragon S4 and outperforms the 1.4Ghz quad core Exynos 4412. If the numbers are true, Apple has done a very good job designing their own chip. Which bodes well for the Ipad 4.

Unconfirmed benchmarks shows the iPhone 5 dual core beating out all Android devices, including quad cores.

My brother in law shattered his phone and they fixed it free. Most likely a YMMV. Still probably cheaper than shattering an android device.

People don't worry about shattering their Android devices, because Android phone makers decided not to put glass on the back cover of their phone.

And as iPad drop tests have shown, aluminum transfers too much impact energy to the glass screen compared to polycarbonate, again increasing the rate at which screens in iDevices shatter.

In that regard, the iPhone 5 is a minor improvement. There's no back glass to worry about, but the aluminum shell will still transfer most of the impact energy straight into the screen.

Android devices are less prone to shattering, but they do happen. My friends have shattered their android devices so its not unheard of. In his case he's pretty much screwed in getting the phone fixed. What are you supposed to do when you break an Android phone with no insurance? Ship it to another country?

Maybe Ive just been extremely lucky, but I dropped my 4 many times, and all I had was one of those e13ectron cases that doesn't protect the front/back glass, just goes around the edge.

I've dropped my Samsung Galaxy on tile and concrete multiple times without a case; no cracked screen. If I drop an iPhone 4 on tile or concrete even once without a case, it's all over.

You do the same thing you do whenever you cause accidental damage to something that isn't covered by your warranty/insurance: you pay for the repair. You're too much of a novice to the tech world to realize that every major tech manufacturer has domestic repair facilities.

WTF is up with people dropping their phones all the time? Maybe Fisher-Price needs to start making phones for you guys. My wife has had an iPhone 4 for something like 2 years and has never broken it (it actually looks flawless after all this time). I've had a BB for like 5 years and can't remember the last time I dropped it. Do you guys play catch with your phones or something?

I pre ordered mine today for Sprint. Which probably means I wouldn't see it for at least 2-3 weeks...

Don't feel to bad. AT&T fucked over all of their business customers/people with employee discounts...

It appears anyone who was forced to order through AT&T Premier has a delivery date of Oct 4-18. Even if you ordered before the ATTs cutoff for getting your phone on 9/21. Anyone, not having Premier, that ordered through AT&T before 9am pst will get their phone on 9/21. People who have ordered when ATT Premier came up at 3pst appear to be back ordered to Oct 4-18, while people who ordered 7am pst and aren't Premier have had packages already ship(32GB & 64GB are shipping from China, 16GBs are already in Nashville).

That's not unusual for AT&T. AT&T has been known to take care of their full-price customers first ahead of those with discount plans.

Not all Premier accounts are discounted. The vast majority of business plans. Mine is discounted though. Never realized that discount would be a huge pain in the ass.

I bet the turnaround time is longer than Apples and more costly.

I drop my phone maybe once every few months, for a device I'm constantly holding and using several hours a day. It doesn't happen often, but it only takes one accident, and accidents happen to everyone.

Well it seems they have started processing premier orders for shipping. Or more likely their antiquated system for premier is just now showing it because most/all first shipments have been shipped from China already.

Hmm nothing's changed on my Verizon order status. I'm not a huge fan of their order status page... it just has a field for the tracking and that's it. :| I wouldn't mind a status on my status page!

Has your credit card been charged yet? It hasn't shown up on my card yet. I'm a little concerned that it might be a problem with the billing info being in my wife's name but the CC being in my name. She's going to call tomorrow to see if there's an issue.

I've gone caseless and protectorless on my 3GS for a good while now. Sure, it looks a little beat up, but it was never that pretty to begin with, and the back of the phone can be buffed out if I ever feel like it. For that matter, so can the front, although the glass would lose the oleophobic coating.

I'm on the fence about a case for my 5 (which I will be getting when AT&T gets them in stock in local stores -- I don't want to mess with ordering it). The really nice thing about Apple making it as small/thin and light as it is, is that even with a case it will still be pocketable and smaller/lighter/thinner than some competing phones and/or previous iPhones. In a way, you can think of the aluminum case as a skeleton to be covered. People say that the polycarbonate Android phones are better.... it's really pretty easy to cover your iPhone in polycarbonate or various other synthetic materials. The "ecosystem" doesn't just apply to apps -- the variety of cases for iPhones is pretty amazing, and Apple makes it easy on the accessory makers by keeping the same design around for a while.

If you want to see how much Apple influences the market, look at the plug end of a pair of headphones made in the last few years. They are are almost all exactly the right size to fit in the iPhone's recessed headphone jack, and that was only on the the first model.

Ah, the joys of buying new accessories. Here's what's hot on my iPhone 5 wishlist:

1. Camera+: My favorite photo app. link
2. Filmic Pro: My favorite video app (24fps, exposure & focus lock). link
3. Olloclip: 3-in-1 clip-on lens system. link
4. Tiltpod Mobile: Keychain tripod from Gomite. Has a magnetic ball with a rubbery base to make an instant tripod for taking photos & video. link
5. Boost Battery Case: Love these things. Protective case with a built-in battery. They have a thicker version now for the 4S with a 2200mAh battery in it. Gives it a nice, solid feel in your hand, too.
6. HDMI cable: Gotta wait for the Apple adapter.

I'm contemplating picking up an AppleTV 3. I sold my v2 recently but kinda-sorta miss the Airplay functionality. Not sure if I $99 miss it tho.
