fedex tomorow by 3pm.. i wont be home.. maybe my neighbor can sign for it... sad if i have to wait till monday
That only works for AT&T by the way. Verizon is shipping by FedEx and isn't using reference numbers like that.
Wow, 30 bucks for 20 cents of material for an adapter. Thats so freaking retarded. If anyone has been to the apple store today, can you let me know if they have the dock connector adapters in stock?
The Apple web store says available in October, but it seems silly that they wouldn't have them at launch.
My wifes phone is coming today and she'll need an adapter for her car kit.
Thanks

I just walked into a verizon store this morning and walked out 30 minutes later with a 64GB 5. Unfortunately I have a pro clip mount in my car so I need to wait until they get those updated for the 5 and will hopefully not need an adapter.

It is pretty ridiculous. In general Apple is pretty fair in pricing its adapters/batteries/chargers, but this one in particular is stupidly overpriced. A number of companies will be selling similar devices - see http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...htning+adapter - but if I were buying an iPhone 5 today I'd want one today as well. I will probably buy some aftermarket ones from Amazon ASAP so I have them in hand before my iPhone 5, which I expect to order next week.
Does this adapter do any digital to analogue conversion? I thought i heard it did, which could account for some of the cost.

I hadn't heard that. Agreed that that would help explain the cost.
The new eight-prong Lightning adapter is all digital, converting the analog signal to digital
Not really. The BOM on a Lightning adapter is going to be a couple dollars or less. Not quite the 25 cents for the old 30-pin connector, but it doesn't change the fact that Apple employs a 1000%-2000% markup on accessories.I hadn't heard that. Agreed that that would help explain the cost.
The fact that Lightning is all digital still has me scratching my head. The analog line-out is part of what made iPod docks so cheap, easy, and consistent. Now dock manufacturers are going to be responsible for implementing DACs, and we all know how cheap those guys are...
