Mine said I could leave a Fedex door tag, or have someone else sign for it. I think in the past I've just stuck a sticky note on my door with a note and my signature.

That only works for AT&T by the way. Verizon is shipping by FedEx and isn't using reference numbers like that.

Actually that only works with Apple I think, my ATT version shipped fedex as well. Should be here tomorrow but I'm wondering if I can call them today and tell them to hold it, the sorting facility is close enough I could go there during lunch and pick it up.

Hmm should I be worried at all that the Verizon e-mails don't have my apartment number on them? When I pre-ordered at the store, I'm pretty sure that I gave them the apartment number. So, I'm not sure if their e-mails simply omit the second address field (where you normally put apartment numbers). Even if it's shipped without it, I should be fine as it would be delivered to my apartment complex office... I think.

If anyone has been to the apple store today, can you let me know if they have the dock connector adapters in stock?

The Apple web store says available in October, but it seems silly that they wouldn't have them at launch.

My wifes phone is coming today and she'll need an adapter for her car kit.

Thanks

Wow, 30 bucks for 20 cents of material for an adapter. Thats so freaking retarded.

I just walked into a verizon store this morning and walked out 30 minutes later with a 64GB 5. Unfortunately I have a pro clip mount in my car so I need to wait until they get those updated for the 5 and will hopefully not need an adapter.

It is pretty ridiculous. In general Apple is pretty fair in pricing its adapters/batteries/chargers, but this one in particular is stupidly overpriced. A number of companies will be selling similar devices - see http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...htning+adapter - but if I were buying an iPhone 5 today I'd want one today as well. I will probably buy some aftermarket ones from Amazon ASAP so I have them in hand before my iPhone 5, which I expect to order next week.

Does anyone know if I buy an iPhone today, can I just use iTunes to move my number over? Or do I have to involve ATT? I plan to buy the phone outright.

It's going to replace my work iPhone. Is there additional charge or switching in contract to go from HPSA+ to LTE?

Yeah, I'm waiting on the same. This dock connector changeover is such a PITA. I have a proclip dock in each car. A cable on my Mac, one by my bed. One in my office, and a music dock at my workstation. All of which were able to charge my phone, my wife's phone and my iPad. I can't just buy cables because I need to support the older devices. So I need adapters, but $30....wtf? This is going to cost a fortune. They could at least have packed one in.

I drove past the Verizon and AT&T stores on Wilshire in Santa Monica this morning and they both had lines of about 10 people.

I also have a ProClip (the charging model). I do not have Bluetooth in my car, I use a cassette adapter, so I am wondering how they are going to deal with the headphone jack on the bottom.

Does this adapter do any digital to analogue conversion? I thought i heard it did, which could account for some of the cost.

The fact that Lightning is all digital still has me scratching my head. The analog line-out is part of what made iPod docks so cheap, easy, and consistent. Now dock manufacturers are going to be responsible for implementing DACs, and we all know how cheap those guys are...

I hadn't heard that. Agreed that that would help explain the cost.
Not really. The BOM on a Lightning adapter is going to be a couple dollars or less. Not quite the 25 cents for the old 30-pin connector, but it doesn't change the fact that Apple employs a 1000%-2000% markup on accessories.

It would have been nicer if Apple had put in a Line-out feature on the headphone jack, since they moved it to the bottom...then just have a 1/8" minijack & Thunderbolt connector on the docks.

This is when I stopped reading, because that's NOT true. Official Apple accessories are some of the most overpriced things I've ever seen. $30-40 to replace the cheap buds that come with all ipods and most people just throw out. The old USB cable for my iphone 4 also cost $30 in store, so this is no different. And they aren't even that solid quality wise to justify it, that's why I had to buy a new USB cable
