the only people who really "need" joysticks are OG players who grew up in arcades. a ton of newcomers use pad because they didn't grow up with joysticks for fighters, and they actually have a harder time playing on joysticks than they do pads.
I don't see how you are convinced to get a ps4 because you aren't that great at fighters or at least you don't think you would be good at this specific one. Its not as if the xb1 is killer instinct only. Also, if the new dpad is solid you may not need a stick at all to be competitive. There are some good players in other games who use the standard controller.

i'd be lying if i said i didn't just preorder a 3rd joystick at gamestop just now in store. i am getting one day damnit! they confirmed that the date in store (12/4) is a placeholder for now though. had to put $50 down. i was definitely the first one to preorder in store because the guys had no clue about it even.
Oh lol sorry I didn't catch that. I suck at fighters too but the training mode has frame times and such for you to learn off of.
I am going to be honest, I don't memorize frame times and do just fine. I just learn what from my character is safe / unsafe and what stuffs what. Knowing you have a 3 frame jab doesn't help if you don't know when to use it. >_>
same. but if you understand frame data you can figure out what can link combo wise, so that you aren't wasting your time trying to combo with stuff that simply won't work because of the engine. to me that is where it can come into play. and if there are less frames between links, it may also help you understand why timing is stricter.
but 99% of the time, i just do stuff by "feel" and whether it's safe or unsafe.
Yeah, when it comes to combos I've gotten far to lazy and uncompetitive to actually spend time in the lab figuring out the optimal ones. I'll mess around when a game or character is first out, and eventually look up their best combos. Spending an hour or so, I can generally find something that works and does damage with a little experimenting. Eventually, once I start needing to optimize, I just look up someone else's hard work. =)
The internet has really made this so easy. Gone are the days of having to figure out on your own or relying on someone better at your arcade to give you advice.

no chance this is coming to pc. at least not in the next 2-3 years. that would be a terrible business decision for ms to do that.
Gamestop by me didn't have preorder available for the stick as it was listed as an online only item but what we did do was an in store online order. Where the store processes the order from the website and waves shipping cost. So I paid for it in full off the website and get free shipping to my house saves me a few bucks on the shipping. At least I know I got one.

no, the snes version of ki was a terrible port. i played the shit out of it, but it's a joke of a port. i prefer to play ki in my ki2 cabinet.

i don't see how someone can watch this and not get hype about it. it's so fast paced and in your face from the start. none of that standing around shit waiting for someone to make a move to find an opening. the game looks so pretty and the sound is amazing. make sure to watch in hd.
