markman said that they should be arriving before launch, but that was a while ago so i'm hoping madcatz says they will be shipping shortly, even though i won't be able to do anything with it lol.

I loved fighting games in the day but when they got overly complex, I lost interest. I'd love for a game like Mortal Kombat 1 to come along again. Maybe not that simple but something leaning that way instead of what killer instinct brings. These combo breakers and such things just make the learning curve to steep for the casual gamer.

I hope you're joking. I always HATED the Mortal Kombat (and later, Tekken...) fans who thought memorizing random direction and button combinations was "better" than a simple easy-to-understand combo system with some extra depth for players who want to go beyond.

You've got it backwards: Killer Instinct is the simpler game. You never know what takes priority over what in memorization-heavy MK.

well from what they have shown with killer instinct (and what i've experienced actually playing it), they are making it both beginner friendly as well as making it advanced with more advanced mind games.

combo breakers are for the most part rock/papers/scissors.

if you think (or know from the visual animations) if your opponent is doing a light attack, you press both light attacks to break. same with medium and heavy attacks and pressing both corresponding buttons. it really is very basic, in concept.

they also have the most indepth training mode ever to be seen in a fighting game that comes with killer instinct, called dojo mode. it goes from basics such as how to move, jump, and dash, to how to read frame data and use frame traps.

That date is placeholder. They don't know when they will receive them. There is no street date available for it yet. Usually gamestop puts a street date on any product that has a solid release date but it doesn't matter to me as long as I get one.

it's not a placeholder anymore. i asked this past weekend when i was in a gamestop. they said december 4th is the date they now have. so i dunno, either way i'm thinking im going to cancel all of them except my madcatz order.

I was told if there is no street date it can move.

As long s it is a regular production item and madcatz isn't hinting at only making so many and screwing anyone who did not buy direct.

looks like the new street date for both gamestop and amazon for the te2's are 12/13. both sites have updated their date to the same date.

i'm really hoping my madcatz one comes early, i was definitely one of the first people to preorder it on that site. most likely i'll end up cancelling my preorders at amazon and gamestop if that happens.

killer instinct to ship with a survival mode, and it will have a single player mode later on early next year.

http://www.oxm.co.uk/65649/killer-i...launch-arcade-mode-after-season-1-characters/

my favorite part about this is the details about the dojo mode, which were already known for the most part, but they are still very interesting because of how in depth they go.

"The Dojo is our big tutorial mode, and the one thing that we're doing that's kind of different from other fighting games is, we're teaching you about Killer Instinct, but we're also trying to teach you about fighting games in general, and their terminology, because often you'll hear people talk about fighting games, and you know they just don't know what they're talking about.

"We start out, we go through the basics, stuff you'll see in other fighting games like navigation, blocking, crouching, jumping, throws, specials, and then we go into Killer Instinct specific things, like combos; Ultras, which are the finishers, and Instinct Mode.

"Once we get into advanced lessons, we start teaching you really advanced fighting game techniques, like cross-ups, which are in any fighting game; we have anti-airing; Manuals, which is an advanced Killer Instinct tactic.

"And then we really start just exposing everything - we show you hit boxes and stuff so you can learn, for Jago, what his attacks look like. We even have one on frame data so you can learn how to start to use frame data to your advantage. Frame traps, which is pretty advanced. [Shadow break] is another Killer Instinct tactic that is pretty advanced; it's a way where if you're blocking somebody, and they just keep whaling on you, you can use a shadow breaker to kind of just turn it around."

Dojo sounds awesome. BlazBlue had a great tutorial system as well. I just wish there was a training mode you could enter in a combo and then attempt it. Maybe have user uploaded combos (B&B, situation max damage, character specific, counterhit only, etc) and you can download and practice them.

You must be talking mk3 and up, and I agree. I hated the button memorization combo system, but mk1 and 2 were very similar to the way sf played. I enjoyed them much more thank mk3 and up.

yeah mk1 and mk2 didn't have the dial-a-combos like mk3+ and tekken did. mk1 and mk2 you had to create your own combos just from moves working together.
