yeah how well/bad the stick sells doesn't matter at all to me.
i dunno why but i get the feeling that killer instinct will pull in the mk crowd over the sf crowd, and the mk crowd is a lot more casual and use pads a lot more than the sf community.
That's crazy but what I like is if you get caught in a big combo you aren't instantly doomed to lose. In some other fighters if you make one mistake your life bar can go from almost 100% to zero in one move and you can do nothing to get out of it. At least this gives you a chance to get away.
not in this case though. as soon as the ultra animation starts, you're done. but if it was a non-ultra long ass combo, then yea you are right. and the thing that i like about how KI combos work is that the majority of the damage comes from the ender. so if you get broken late on a long combo, you will not get as much damage had you just done an ender earlier.

Right, but if you just do the standard ultra with no extras connected to it you aren't going to 1hit KO. The damage seems very balanced to me from what I've seen.
You can't do your ultra unless they are in a range where it will kill them.
But I understand what you're saying. There is not 1 touch kill type of stuff like there is in MvC. Part of that is because people don't have the game to find those, but another part is with the breakers, you have the potential to break out of any combo and not get 1 touch killed.
That's what I meant yeah. There's no move that can drop you down from almost full to dead. There are some Ultras in SF4 that do around 90% damage or something if they connect fully.
king of unrelated to this game but it's ki related
tonight i finally fixed my marquee light in my ki2 cab. i had always wondered why the light never worked so i opened it up, and no bulb was in there lol. so i bought a new bulb, but that also did not work. so either the starter or ballast was bad.
since they are so old and the parts are pretty rare in stores, i just went to walmart and got a $8 light, and spliced the wires to fit the molex connector. and it worked like a charm.

my hdd for ki actually crashed so i just ordered a compact flash version of the hdd and will either get it saturday or monday. i hope that fixes the random issue i just saw, because i wanna get some more ki in!
purbeast0, did you create a backup of your HDD before it crashed?
And since you mentioned your KI2 machine, the monitor in mine looks like it has gone out. It looks like a verital collapse, which I fixed once by replacing a chip on the monitor board, but then it just collapsed again a few minutes later. Any suggestions on who could fix this for me?
no i did not create a backup of it prior. you can find backups online pretty easily though. but from what i've been reading, it is more of a hassle to use traditional hdd's when you can get the compact flash versions for cheap. i just got mine from someone for $25 shipped and i don't have to worry about it crapping out on me. i mean, the hard drive is like 18 years old that i have now, so that is a pretty good run for the hdd.
as far as the monitor, i don't personally know much about it. when i was trying to fix my light i came across this site:
http://www.arcaderepairtips.com/category/sections/monitors-screens/
it seems to have a lot of general repair tips, maybe that will help.
my other suggestion would be to go to klov (arcade-museum) and search the forums or post in them too. there's a lot of knowledge over there.
Thanks man. I may look into the compact flash solution. My HDD is working fine, but I think the CF may be a better long term solution. I'll also follow up on your monitor repair tips. I think it is a bad cap on the board that is causing the IC chip to fail (which was a pain for me to replace the first time). So I'll have to see if I can identify the problem cap, or may just send it in to someone to inspect. I hate having the game just sitting there, not working.
Lol hard drive. Do they have reel to reel versions?
cool man good luck. i forget which games you have, you have a couple right? i got mk1, mk2, ki1, and ki2. my sound boards are jacked for mk1 and mk2 though i think. once i get this all up and running again i think i'm going to test all of my other games out just to see how they all run.
how else do you think they got all of those fancy pre-rendered graphics and FMV's on there back in the day? they needed the full 155mb or whatever it is hdd for it!
remember, this is 1994 we're talking about here!
I just have the one KI2 machine. I got it for $295 at an arcade a looong time ago. It's in great shape except for the non working monitor.
That's cool that you have the original KI and MK machines though. I loved those games. I can play them on my PS3, but it's just not the same as having the original arcade game. You have an arcade, I just have an arcade machine.
Yeah it was pretty 733t back in the day.
I still laugh at the whole Ultra 64 thing.
Used a HDD in the arcade and they really thought a 32 MB cart and 4k texture cache was going to run the same game at home. Hehe.
It was what like another 7 years before the first HDD even showed up in a console.
to this day it's still pretty badass hearing the intro on the arcade game talking about how it will be available for nintendo's ultra 64. and then they changed the name to the weaker nintendo 64.
