Yup. Sigh.

Silicon Graphics. MIPS R4000. Steel and sparks Ultra 64 logo. Nintendo wasn't screwing around. And riding high as a kite from demolishing the 16 bit war.

Then we got....

Super blurry playdoh land!

yeah it was a total 180. that was the start of nintendo's "kiddy" reputation. well, actually it may have been MK on SNES with the sweat instead of blood, but n64 is what sealed the deal. you don't understand how upset i was about killer instinct not coming out to it.

Yeah. N64 and loss of devs permanently cost Nintendo their place in the console market.

Bet they are absolutely beating themselves to death over it today...

Even the Wii, successful or not, was just a short lived "iDevice" fad amongst casual non gamers and they know it.

On top of the world after obliterating the 16 bit war and they blew it. Sigh.

Bet they wished they could wish away the N64 now.

Hell even Sega had multiple chances between Sega CD/32X, Saturn, and Dreamcast before giving up. Nintendo screwed up once with N64 and it was case closed. Just....Damn!

Yeah, Nintendo really did a 180 after MK I think. Which was strange, because almost all of MK's appeal was it being silly, over the top violent.

Nintendo didn't want to go with Sony's disc based system and it ended up costing them big time. Sure, the PS1 wasn't huge, but the PS2 could have easily been the Nintendo PlayStation 2.

Chief Thunder (fully) revealed:
http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/08/15/killer-instinct-chief-thunder-revealed

EDIT:

So, I watched it, and I think Thunder looks pretty nifty. He's obviously a bit different than his original incarnation... quite a bit more detailed, but it's not too drastic of a change. Although, one thing that came to mind near the end is when he talked about the release. The game comes out in November, which means they've got about three months to add more characters. Since EVO (about a month ago), we have one new character; so, what's the final count going to look like? Just to note, Killer Instinct will be a digital download, so the game won't have the same restrictive timeline as a physical release, which requires a gold master to be sent to print (usually over a month ahead of release).

Can't see the link. I have to remember to check this out when I get home. I am rather sad they waited so long to announce the game though. I would have loved to see it more during the tourney season and get a lot more FCG pros perspective.

I wanna see the players who can count frames and such give their perspective on this game. Can't wait until it's out there and see what people are saying.

Admittedly I'm not very good at fighting games overall, I've say I'm slightly above average. Not good enough to read frames etc.

I don't even both with frame data. I just memorize what will beat out what and go from there.

I'm pretty much the same, I am good at memorizing moves and when they are most effective.

I showed a friend of mine the video of this game and I think he got more excited than me and he isn't even buying an XB1 lol. Gonna be cool to practice locally again like BITD with MK and SF2.

There is already frame analyzing in the matter that a lot of stuff is safe which means it should be very offensive. They also said that the in game move list will include frame data for all moves.

Have to watch the video when I get home.

Oh really, so they give you the info in the move list...that's a first isn't it? That might come in handy when doing a bit of practice.

It would be a first in game I believe. I know guides have come out with frame data. I believe the original MVC3 strategy guide had them, as well as the B&B combos for characters, and who / what kind of assists they meshed with.

Wow so buying it outright for $40 basically gets you all the dlc stuff. That is very good.

I will just do that, I was expecting to pay a full $50-$60.

The $20 pack sounds good to me, I think it's a good price although only 6 characters at launch is a little disappointing. Hopefully that means it will be super balanced, though. The original KI arcade game is very tempting, though.

Yeah each KI game had 11 characters each but not all of them were the same. The transition from KI 1 to KI 2 saw some characters disappear and a few new characters introduced. I still think the pricing is fair, but the way they are releasing just seems like they were given the project a little late so they need to finish up all the animations, stages, and art plus all the moves and balance issues for the rest of the cast. Which is OK, I mean if you don't want a new character you don't need to buy it but that does not limit your gameplay. You can still play online with people who have those characters.

Well, that answers my question about the lack of character reveals. I'll probably buy the $20 or $40 one. Getting the arcade game might be nice so I can see how Rare bastardized my SNES childhood.

Yeah, they just were not ready to be shown. Looking at their videos and how they went through a lot of different concepts...it is easy to see why.

I'm not talking about whether they're ready to be shown or not, but rather that given the time between each reveal (one month), we would only get 2-3 more characters prior to release. This seems to be on the money as we're getting three more characters.

Also, it sounds like they're still planning for more characters. How will the pricing on that be handled? Will there be similar $20 packs (or appropriately scaled depending on content)? Although, I do prefer this model to Capcom's super-tack-on-a-suffix-and-call-it-a-new-game-turbo-alpha business model.

interesting. the biggest news out of all of this is they are re-releasing the original killer instinct game on x1. they had not mentioned this at all previously.

pretty meh about the pricing. i was hoping there would just be a price that you pay that would include all future DLC. the closest we have to that is the $40 pricing, but that just includes 8 characters, and i really hope there are more than 8 characters in the works.

more info here.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08...nch-explained?abthid=5213741aabfd1e617a000014

im annoyed because they initially said there was a "season pass" that you could pay a 1 time fee for, and that would get you all seasons. seems like they aren't offering that now.

Are you sure it isn't the $40? I can't read the link, but it doesn't make sense that the $20 and the $40 pack includes the same amount of characters, one costing twice the price for some costume packs.
