I was really hoping for Cinder to make his return, but I could deal with playing as a ninja too.

The only thing that bugs me about these videos is how someone does a combo by repeating the same move over and over for 30 hits. It really makes it look like button mashing in an action game sometimes.

Doing that will result in an easy breaker though. >_> Anyone can mash, but it won't work for someone not completely new.

i have no doubt that cinder and orchid (and all of the original cast) will eventually be in there. and yeah orchid had a move where she could turn into a glowing tiger, bf+p, but in ki2 it was only an ender they removed it from an actual special move.

Fulgore is my boy. I dunno why...in reality he kind of sucked from what I remember but I love his design.

At the time, KI had some very interesting characters. I hope we see the entire old rosters eventually in this game (and as a $40 buyer, I get them for free).

fulgore was a beast at the game. actually all of the characters were very viable, that is what made the game so great, there weren't really any "tiers" in the game. but also i think they were all very similar in play styles, which is probably another reason why they were all viable.

smackababy i don't think you quite understand the pricing. for $40 you only get the first 8 characters (6 at launch, 2 around feb/march, along with the single player mode), as well as ki1 version (as of now, it has no online either) and a buncha costumes. for $20 you get just the 8 characters, as well as the single player mode when it eventually is finished.

then come season 2, which is supposed to be 8 more characters, you can buy them all for $20, and possibly some other kind of $40 version.

me personally, i'm getting the $20 version because i already own killer instinct 1 arcade cab, and i'm not one for costumes.

That is annoying. I was hoping they would do a VIP program similar to Forza and Battlefield. You buy the program and get all the DLC. If all I get is garbage, I'll buy the $20 version...

yeah before they officially announce the pricing, they mentioned something about a season pass that would do what you are talking about. i was disappointed they didn't announced it too. i'm 99% getting the $20 version too.

The costumes will depend on how they look. I recall hearing that some of them will be "originals", which means if you prefer the character's old look, you can go back to it.

I am trying to understand how this pricing model of 'seasons' and SFIV having multiple versions of the same game is glossing people over. Is it because they are piecing more characters together in bunches? While I have always wanted KI to make a modern comeback, I fear that its modernization is in creating an episodic foundation for many games to follow, pending its success. You could make arguments either way - I just hope the franchise really gets merit when it is released.

the difference between the way ki and sf4 are, is that ki is going to be 1 ecosystem. when season 2 comes out, it's just going to be more characters that play with the same characters from s1.

with sf4 (and mvc3) you have to go out and buy a full new game and there are now 2 versions of sf4. then another version comes out, then another with ultra coming out next year. there will now be 4 different versions of sf4. someone with vanilla can't play with someone who has super, or ae, or ultra.

with ki, if it makes it to season 4, it will still be 1 game. there won't be split versions of the game.

as i've been following ki very closely, it's very obvious that MS is forcing (probably with a large paycheck) double helix to get this game out at launch in some playable fashion. i also get the vibe that if it were up to double helix, they would wait until it's fully finished to release it with more content. it's all speculation as nothing is official, but that is definitely the vibe that people following the development of ki are getting.

If you use only the free character, Jago you can play online forever against ANY character. If you buy one character, you can play online forever against ANY character. You never get locked out. You do not have to buy all the packages to keep up. The characters on day one will always be able to play against the new characters no matter what.

With Street Fighter IV you were semi-locked out. You had special AE only lobbies that blocked anyone who didn't have arcade edition. This won't happen with KI according to my reading, you can play with anyone regardless of what character package you buy or don't buy.

In short...

You can take any character and play against anyone, forever, for as long as you wish to.

Ok, I suppose the open lobby is a good thing then, not forcing people to buy more characters or an upgraded edition of the same game. I traded in my copy of vanilla SFIV after seeing them release multiple versions.

I am trying to hold off any judgment until it is released and we can play it for ourselves. KI (SNES) is one of my favorite games. To be honest, I am a little put off by the art of the new game, but I'll keep watching it.

started reading the thread over on dh forums yesterday but it's like a childrens playground over there.

this doesn't bother me one bit though. i've played the game and it looks incredible. i've also been playing 720p games on my ps3 and 360 for nearly a year now on a 10 foot screen and at 720p the games look great.

also, one thing to notice in that article is that it says "technically" it runs at 720p. i'm guessing it will be upscaled to 1080p and will look just fine, just like many xbox360 games were not native 720p but were scaled up to 720p and looked just fine as well.

Its important to remember that they want 60fps all the time.

That is the number 1 think about fighting games. If you are going to require the player to input something within a frame or two (1/60th of a second), you had better not dip in FPS.

The core fighting game player doesn't care about resolution. Anyone that isn't an 09er (and I dislike that term), still loves the old school fighters and will play them. Fighting games age particularly well, because it is almost entirely gameplay over graphics.

never heard of an 09er >.>

Anyway yes, if they ran 1080p and got 50fps it wouldn't be the same. So I have no qualms about rendering at 720 and maybe scaling it up if it locks you at 60fps.
