Thanks, renethx, for the SpeedFan beta suggestion. The beta version works great and verifies that even under a heavy load CPU temps level off at 43 degC (max).

Thanks again for the info!!!

What're the reported vcores (from Cpu-z, speedfan, etc) when running at the 2 CnQ states of say 1.1V and 1.4V? It is a known problem that Asus A8N-VM CSM overvolts (~1.18V when it is supposed to be 1.1V), what about the MSI K8NGM2-FID ?

This is a great thread. Based on all the info in here, I decided to upgrade my Athlon XP Mobile based system to the one in my sig. Just a note for everyone, the heatpipes from the Zalman CNPS8000 blocks DIMM slot 1. I had to install my memory in slots 3 & 4.

I've been trying to get Speedfan to work without success. I can see my hard drive SMART info but no motherboard info at all. Any suggestions? I've tried both v4.28 and v4.29 beta.

ajemm,

You need to install 4.28 first and then replace speedfan.exe in the SpeedFan program folder with speedfan.exe (4.29 beta). Did you download the latest configuration for MSI MS7207PV (K8NGM2-FID)? I gave a concise instruction of installation in the first post.

I started up my second K8NGM2-FID this afternoon - BUT, I'm RMAing back to Newegg because the primary IDE channel will not recognize more than one drive. I've asked for a replaement board because the first board is running so well. I realize that I could run the board with a single drive on the primary, two more on the secondary along with 4 SATA drives if need be; however, having a crippled board to start out with just doesn't seem like a good approach....

Anyone else run into this problem?

Thanks renethx for the additionnal 2.4 GHz overclock info. For maximum safety, I am going to give it a try after I update BIOS to 3.5.

My first board had NO IDE channel that would work at all. I tried every possible combination of primary/secondary master/slave and different HD and optical drives. New board works fine.

I think if I had 3 out of 4 possible IDE connections working (if I read your post correctly), I would just not bother. Assuming all else is fine. I only use IDE for opticals now anyway.

Mark9,

Besides pctwo, there are two users in this thread (jt2417, mikeaco) who had an IDE drive detection problem of different nature (fix was easy).

Has anyone gotten the CMX1024-3200C2PT (Twinx) 2GB memory pack to work on the K8NGM2-FID mb? I left it at the default memory settings. When the system boots up with either will just keep looping and rebooting itself or not boot at all. Any ideas? Thanks!!

I second Artanis. Any boot sequence can be saved and works with BIOS v3.40.

Hmm... Strange... That problem could not be solved. Anyway, After upgrading to v3.5 BIOS, problem solved. No problem at all...

PCGuRu2K,

Update BIOS to v3.50 (if not yet)
Clear CMOS
Set DDR Voltage to 2.75V
Run Memtest86

PCGuRu2K:
What processor are you using? I've installed 2 sticks of the Corsair ValueSelect 3200ddr ram with a 3800+ processor (core speed 2411 mhz) in each of two K8NGM2-FID boards and they performed perfectly from initial startup. I'm not overclocking though!

Thanks. It's working fine now.

I've only had one issue with this board. After the system has been running for a while, it stops connecting to the internet. It's one of 3 computers on my network and the other two can connect without problem. I can even browse the shared files on my network but can't get on the net. It's OK once I reboot. I've updated the bios to the latest (v3.5), and still no luck.
Anyone have a similar problem?

When you are unable to get on the net with that computer can you use the Ping command to sucessfully ping the other systems and your router?

boot any Live-linux, and (assuming you use dhcp for assigning IP) try to ping local net and internet then.

I've decided to give the MSI Live Monitor utility a try. I've downloaded it from the MSI site and installed it, but when I try to run the "Auto Search" to see if there are any updates, it simply says:

Download check list fail!
Can not connect to the internet or the server is busy.
Please connect to the internet first, and try it later.

I'm already connected to the internet through both wired and wireless connections. I've disabled my firewall and antivirus just in case they were blocking something.

I've also tried it through the web based version, but as soon as it tries to connect, the frame in the middle says "page cannot be displayed".

Am I missing something?

I was wondering which SATA ports on this board are locked (if any).

I was also wondering if anyone managed to install RMclock on this board cause whenever I try to set up p-states my system locks up and I noticed that renethx reported something similar in the master post

During the period when the system won't connect to the internet (or gets dropped), can you still scan shared files on the other systems on your network? In other words, is the networking function stopping totally on your board? If it is, then I'd RMA it to the vendor or MSI.

Yes, my local network is fine. It usually happens after the system has been idle for a while.

Hi,

Problem: front panel headphone/lineout does not have any output sound, can anybody help ? gj Edit: problem cause found, faulty case, please ignore the rest of this message.

jough: in a very early post (page 9, I think and should be quoted in this post) you seem to have had a similar problem but I can see no reply to your post and you do not seem to talk about it later, did you solve the problem ?

more info on problem:
- I have followed renethx section on audio and AC97 panel setup for HD connections on motherbaord, and disabling in jack sensing in Realtek software.
- rear panel jack senses but will have sound output when I select "line out" or "Headphone"
- I have not installed the bracket with the black, orange & grey coloured "rear", "centre" & "side" connectors (although manual misses this out, FYI it connector is next to CD-In connector), does it need to be plugged-in even though I am not using those signals ? I just tried connecting and front still does not work
- FYI, no SPDIF bracket was supplied, but TV-out bracket was supplied.

more info on system:
MSI K8NGM2 version 2.0
MS Win XP Pro SP2
Graphics 91.31
Chipset 8.26
Audio Realtek HD 880/860 R1.41 (5.10.00.5273)
case is Aspire X-Qpack

Looking more like a faulty X-Qpack case front panel. gj Edit: Yes, it was this, checked with another case. Oh, well to RMA city...

Thanks for any help,

Gary

The following problem was solved by opening the device manager and turning on and off the power management option of my USB mouse (which is Logitech wireless model). Maybe it is related to some windows registry setting? I don't know...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does S3/STR work with fresh installation of Windows 2000 (slipstreamed with SP4)? I tried it with the bios 3.4 and 3.5, but neither worked. It looks like the computer goes to S1 mode (the CPU fan spinning, HDD running, case fan spinning - BTW it's Antec NSK2400).

I did enable the option in the bios. I first suspected if I removed the windows component necessary for S3/STR with nLite, but even with DOS boot, S3/STR does not work... BTW, I use USB keyboard and mouse. It doesn't seem to matter because even without both of them connected, S3/STR does not work (just S1).

ajemm:
From your description, you don't have a hardware problem with the motherboard. Connecting to the internet through the router is a much less strenuous duty for the motherboard as compared to running full speed through the router to the other systems on your network.

There could be any number of reasons that your connection to the internet is being dropped. Do you use static IP addresses for each system or do you let Windows handle your networking? Also, in "Services", are you using Windows DHCP and DNS routines?

One other thing: If you're using Windows Internet Explorer you _MIGHT_ have been infected by one (or more) of the countless number of viruses that appeared in the last few months that takes advantage of the huge number of insecure areas in that browser.... Have you done a virus scan redcently??
