I finally assembled my K8NGM2-FID with X2 3800+ and Corsair Value Select (512 x 2)1GB Dual Channel Memory.
No, PCI or PCIe card installed, just bare board for now with XP Professional SP2.
Directx Version with SP2 is 9.0c.
Came with Bios 3.2 , upgraded to 3.5,
Currently running X2 3800+ at 2400Mhz,
C&Q enabled,
RAM at DDR400 with 2.6V ,
HTT 240,
CPU-NB 1000Mhz,
NB-SB 1000Mhz,
CPU-NB link 16 16
Everything stable 2 instances of Prime 95( over 8 hrs) at 2460Mhz, but finally settled at 2400Mhz just to provide some margin.
Now, the problems,
I have installed both latest version of Nvidia Video Drivers( v.91.28) and 430/410 drivers(v8.26). ( Did not install IDE/SATA drivers and Ethernet Firewall Drivers).
Problem # 1
When I Test DirectDraw ( in Display Tab ) with dxdiag( DirectX Diagnostic Tool), Full Screen Video with White bouncing box has lot of horizantal lines(green and blue??), white box is not really white either.!!
All remaining test were fine, including TestDirect3D. All video settings are default.
HD/DVD Video Playback is fine without any problem as such.
So, why is this problem and what does it mean? Anyone tested and got this problem.
Things I tried to fix the problem,
Reduced the CPU to default 2000Mhz, ( I know it should not be, but)
Increased Video Memory to 128MB,
Reduced CPU-NB, NB-SB to 800Mhz,
Reduced CPU-NB Up/Down link to 8 x 8,
Disabled C&N
None of the above fixed the problem. Any guesses? any hints?
BTW, I also added 80MM 5v fan to NB Heatsink to keep the temp down( it is 60+ without that), so temp is hovering about 50-50C with slow 5v fan.(So not the NB temp).
Problem # 2
I was trying to use RMClock, but whenever transition happens it hangs( not with default AMD driver), sometimes reboots.
I tried RMClock version 2.1 latest, as well as versions all the way back to 1.8, including some betas in between. I know the voltage settings are fine. But something else is goofing.
Any ideas? anyone using RMClock. I even was able to run Proc at 2400Mhz at 1.3v Prime Stable with RMClock, but when transition happens to any other step it hangs.
I also Made sure I am using RMClock power profile.
BTW I have been using RMClock on Tution Laptop for over a year without any problems, and wrote some basic guides about RMClock for Laptops. But this is first time I used it on Desktop.
Voltage is not a problem for each step, but rather moving between the stepping is problem. I prefer RMClock over AMD Driver because RMClock is much more efficient with lot of control for moving between various steppings( Multipliers from 5x to 10X).
Any ideas!!?
Problem # 3
Also, someother thing I observed, 4-5 large downloads (about 100MB) failed in between, just stuck there, no more progress using firefox or IE6!! Not always, but few times.
Same sites, files I downloaded fine with my laptop.
any tips would be highly appreciated
Thanks
